I am very disappointed in our stay at the Fiesta Americana. We booked two rooms through Expedia at $82.50 each per night. This is our fourth trip to Cozumel and our stays have ranged from budget type hotels (Hotel Cozumel) to more luxury type hotels (Cozumel Palace), all of which I would recommend. However, we had nothing but problems with Fiesta Americana. Upon check in we were "upgraded" to the tropical casitas. The room was a complete disaster and I can't believe they charge more for these rooms. We were on the far back edge of the property, the tropical casitas that were closer to the hotel did look a little better. Our rooms were filthy, the water was brown, no hot water, the weeds were so grown up around the rooms that the patio was completely unusable, and there were expletives carved into the marble counters! Totally unacceptable. We went back to the front desk and they told us that there was nothing else available and they could move us the next day. Someone was promptly sent out to look into the brown water situation, but it was never fixed. The next day we went to change rooms and they said rooms would be available at noon. We went back around 2:30 and only one room was ready. The second room was not available until almost 4:00 pm. After finally getting both rooms, the front desk kept confusing the keys and the key to one room would work and then they would turn off the key to the other room. Also, the air conditioning was not working in one of the rooms. After 3 trips to the front desk to resolve this and hours of our day wasted trying to change rooms, we got the manager involved. He apologized for all of our trouble and said he would see what he could do to make it up to us. Needless to say we never heard from him again and nothing was done to compensate us for our lost vacation time. The new rooms were just o.k. It was clean at least, but water kept backing up into the bathroom from the floor drain and there was a strong sewer smell in the bathroom. Also, beware that they charge $4.50 per pack for the coffee in the room. The only reason I gave this hotel a 2 rating is because the rooms we were transferred to were barely exceptable considering we only paid $82.50 a night. Please do not pay anymore than this because there are better places to stay in Cozumel for the same amount of money. Also, I will say that the lobby, pool and beach areas are very nice and clean. I have attached pictures of the tropical casita that we stayed in. If you have already booked a room with this hotel and they want to "upgrade" you, I suggest you refuse and demand to stay in the main building. These rooms were much better.
