I booked a 5 night all inclusive stay at the FA from March 2-7 through Travelocity flying with Delta. Both Travelocity and Delta were great, but I am going to say the FA was just average for me. There were some great things along with some not so great, but it depends on the individual as to what is most important in choosing a resort.
Pros:
Overall, the resort and location were great. The rooms were clean and there were always extra towels available. There were no problems with the room, but I feel we would have been appropriately accomodated if there were, as the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The beach was nice and even though I am sure the marine life out front was better pre-hurricane destruction, I thought it was great and saw something new everyday. Large bottled water was included in the all inclusive which may have been worth the upgrade alone. I would say the food was good overall, there were always plenty of options to choose from and breakfast was great!!
Taxi's are readily available and rates are posted in the Lobby. Just ask the staff and they will call for a taxi to pick you up right out front.
Cons:
The beds....yes, they are extremely hard and honestly I am not one to care if the rooms are extravagant (because I am only in there to sleep), but when the beds are that uncomfortable, it's difficult to get a good nights sleep.
The waitstaff/bartenders were not as friendly and helpful as needed even though we left tips for everyone.
The Dive shop...I don't really know if they are affiliated with the hotel, because the front desk said they were not, but I thought the staff were extremely rude and if you plan on doing a lot of snorkeling, do take your own things. I had mine, but my aunt didn't and was only allowed to take the equipment out for an hour and a half, once a day. On our last morning we wanted to get in a last snorkel, but they said she had to wait until 9:30am to get the equipment even though they were open at 8am??? Still not sure the problem with that, but I would have went with another dive operation simply because they were not friendly with anyone who was not certified. We were planning a resort course with them, but decided against it after their impatience and demeanor with us when inquiring.
Off the resort:
We did the jungle horseback tour which was great fun and followed that by lunch at Coconuts, which is highly reccomended. The food, service, and views were exceptional.
We spent another morning in town to do some window shopping which could have been a lot better if the shop owners had not been so pushy. I have been to other islands, and thought they were persistent there, but nothing like downtown Cozumel, so be prepared.
Cell use/internet ..for those interested:
Verizon and AT&T did not work for us, but T Mobile did. Seems things work at sometimes and not others. There is WiFi in the lobby.
Overall it was a good trip, but I wouldn't return to the FA and I doubt I would return to Cozumel, there are too many other islands with much more to do and see.
