My boyfriend and I went there from Aug. 21-30 and it was a mixed vacation. We got there and were checked into a nice room with a great view of the ocean. (go for 5th floor or higher). We were able to eat right away and the food was good. However, this place seems to cater to numbers and once the number of people dropped, so did the service. The restaurants are only open one at a time and the choices are limited. If it is not busy, there are no theme nights. They even took away the buffet style breakfast when the crowd got smaller. Make sure you eat your food hot, especially the meat, or you will pay! (it's not always the water...) The price of the food was also expensive, ranging from $27.00 for 2 for continental breakfast, to $65 or more for dinner. We went all inclusive and loved it or we would have spent over $120 a day on food!!! Just be careful with what you order and you will be fine. The wait staff was good and the maids were excellent. We would not go back...

My husband and I had a good and bad experience with Fiesta Americana.
Starting with the positive, our housekeeper did and excellent job keeping our room clean and well stocked with towels. Our pool waiter was excellent, although we were all inclusive we still tipped him and he went above and beyond our expectations. The bar/pool staff was great. We enjoyed the pool very much. The bad, we did the all inclusive. If we did it again we probably would not go this route. The food was alright the restaurants were not open at certain times and you always had to remember make dinner reservations between 9a-5p. We were late coming back from a tour and we tried to make reservations after the fact and our concierge lectured us like children. We knew we were wrong to try after 5p but all she had to say was we could not make reservations. It was very unprofessional. Setting up the dives was easy however, after our last dive of the day our boat wasn't there when we surfaced. We were swimming for 30 min. and our "dive master" told us we probably had to swim to shore. We had to flag down another boat to radio our boat. To say the least, it was not a pleasant experience. If you set up dives through the Fiesta Americana they don't tell you where you are going until you are on the boat the day of your dive. Some in our group went on the same dive twice and they were disappointed. The park Chakanaab is within walking distance of the hotel. Warning, they really stick it to the tourists. We did the swim with the dolphins it was $119 dollars. They still charged us another $10 to get into the park. Also, they took us to the cleaners on our video they wanted $49 for the it when we went to pay for it in pesos they upped the price to 5200 pesos. The exchange rate was 10.6 and they charged us 10.8. Expect to get taken advantage of there. Be warned, one person in our group rented a scooter and was driving back to the hotel and he was stopped at the police check point. They wanted to see his license he showed them and told him it was 3000 pesos to get his license back. Finally, they let him go without having to pay. Cozumel is a beautiful island to explore but we will not return. We would rather return to the U.S. and British Virgin islands.

We went to Cozumel for the first time in June 2003 for a relaxing vacation in the sun. We picked this hotel based on reviews and our budget. We loved it the minute we arrived. The hotel is in excellent condition, a great view from the balcony, the pool is wonderful, and the staff is friendly. The location is far enough away from town to enjoy some serenity, and very close to the reefs. The snorkeling right at the hotel was also excellent. I recommend going all-inclusive, since the food is tasty but pricy. Also, make sure to budget $20/day for cab rides if you intend on visiting downtown. Enjoy! It is a wonderful vacation, even if you just stay at the hotel the entire time.

The Fiesta Americana was a terrific place to stay for our trip in Cozumel and I would reccommend it. An excellent all-inclusive resort!
The location is great and the cab rides to town were only $6. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The rooms were bright and spacious with a pull-out couch and balcony with table and chairs, as well a nice views of the sea. Every night they provided turn-down service and left chocolates on our pillows. The food was always fresh and delicious. In the formal dining room, service was a bit slow, so expect to wait quite awhile between courses. They were extremely busy though and did their best to keep all the guests happy. The facilities (2 pools, tennis courts) were in good shape and the beach in front of the hotel was clean and the cocktail/food service was prompt. I recommend renting a jeep for the day and exploring the island and taking the snorkel cruise to the Columbia and Palancar reefs. Incredible! Included in the price of the cruise was a delicious buffet lunch at a beach resort. The locals on can get a bit aggressive when it comes to tipping and shopping in their stores, but we've been to other parts of Mexico and it's pretty much the norm. It was a wonderful trip, especially because my fiance and I became engaged while we were there!

I had a laugh in reading some of the reviews. My husband and I first visited the Americana in 1994 on our honeymoon. The first day in we were tired and hot, had to wait in line to check into the hotel and then wait for a room (as check-in is 3:00pm!). So we went down to the restaurant for lunch, ordered nachos (what an unpleasant suprise) and took in the view. Of course, no matter how bad the wait or nachos, the first underwater view in front of the hotel made it all worthwhile. I have to say that in the almost 10 years of visiting the Americana the food has not dramatically improved in quality - breakfast and lunch are survivable but never dine for dinner. We love ordering pizza (with jalepenos if you like it hot) or going into town for dinner and shopping around the mall. The hotel staff are always very helpful and friendly and the rooms are nice enough. Stay away from the minibar! Oh, and one final note, we were staying at the Americana during hurricane Roxanne and we were completely safe and secure while other visitors had to be moved to shelters in town. Not a room door was broken at the Americana while we saw much damage to other hotels in the area.
Remember, you are in Mexico where it is impolite to rush the customer!
