We just came back after spending 4 nights/5days at Cozumel Palace. This was our first vacation at an all-inclusive resort and we loved our experience in totality.
After a 3-hour frustrating flight delay from Newark NJ, we landed at Cozumel airport. The Cozumel airport is an international airport but lacks international amenities. We walked down the aircraft to the immigration office and it took an hour before we could get to the immigration officer as only 2 windows were open. The office was friendly and we were granted a 6-month entry. Our baggages had already arrived and we picked them up and went pass the customs where strangely I was asked to press a button before leaving. I have no idea what it meant. But there were no hassles so I'm not complaining.
Out of the airport, we looked for our taxi - the guy in red shirt and khaki pants. We had booked a taxi trip in advance via the Palace resorts' website. They arrange this 15-minutes taxi trip via "Elite tours" - their official taxi partners. I found the guy but realized he was packing herds of people in a single van. I guess we were about 10-12 people in the hot van along with all of our luggage in the trunk or on the top. Considering we pre-paid the taxi-fare , I wasn't expecting us to be herded like this. The taxi would probably charge less or same at the gate when you arrive compared to what I paid ($23 each way).
At the hotel, we were greeted by a cold towel and were asked to wait in their living-area. Someone came over and checked us in. We didn't have to stand at the reception to do so. This, we found nice.
We were given a top-floor (5th floor) room right in the center of the hotel. They said this room was possibly one of the best rooms. I think so too. We loved the room and the view. The bell boy brought our baggages upstairs and we quickly ordered some food/coffee/tea from the menu for our growling tummies. The food arrived in about 30 minutes and was yummy. After ordering another round, we were all set to experience the view and resort. We were disappointed to learn there was no beach at the resort but we loved the pool.
The four nights went by pretty fast. We ate at all the restaurants and we were incredibly happy with the service and quality of the food. We booked a scuba-tour but it got canceled due to weather. We rented a car from outside (not at Avis desk which the hotel has) and drove around the island but found there's nothing much to explore for us since we're not snorkelers or scuba-divers. The rental car we got (Jeep Wrangler) was in a horrible condition than promised to us. Avis would've been a better option though they were slightly pricier. We skipped the Chankanab and went to Playa Mia and Playa San Francisco. They were nice. The roundtrip to the took about 3 hours with few stops to take photos.
In all, it was a nice trip. We had a lot of fun.
Would I go there again? No, because we spent 4 nights in Cancun after staying in Cozumel and we had way more fun there. Also, Cozumel has less to offer us as compared to Cancun. But hey, don't listen to me if you wanna go scuba-diving. I heard it has some pretty amazing reefs.
Also, beware of the guest services trying to entice you for a "presentation" (also, known as "invitation") for time-sharing at one of their other resorts. They may offer you cab-fare/lunch/free one-day all-inclusive pass to do so. The presentation will take 90mins to 3-4hours ... it all depends. We took up on that offer and got tempted with the sales-pitch but after intense, 3-hour high-pressured negotiations, we refused to take up with offer. Our cab-fares were paid, we got 2 t-shirts and we got an all-inclusive day pass at Cancun Palace. Interestingly, they refused to provide us lunch that day which was promised earlier. We felt a little cheated as we had already checked out earlier that day from Cozumel palace to attend this presentation. We could've easily had lunch there and check-out. The sales-guy (Theo) became rude and I felt sick asking him to let us have lunch at their buffet. That left a bad taste and I felt glad not having signed the time-sharing contract. The time-sharing offer which was very tempting but there were too many red-flags. I don't wanna digress but I'd like to mention here that there's no free lunch. Do your research before signing any on-the-spot timesharing thing. NEVER SIGN ANYTHING RIGHT AWAY. Sit on it, think and then go back and sign. And if the sales guys don't let you do that, then that's a big red-flag as was with me here at Moon Palace where I received the "presentation".
Anywhoo ... my review above was for the Cozumel Palace hotel so I was very happy with my stay there. I'll probably talk about my TS experiences at Moon Palace elsewhere in detail.
