We stayed at the Cozumel Palace for 10 days in early October. Over all I would give the hotel a 9.5 out of 10. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we have taken. Our main emphasis was the diving, but we were also looking for a much needed rest and relaxation.
The hotel staff could not have been nicer and more helpful. They really hustled to take care of you needs, and always with a smile. What really impressed me was seeing the supervisors jump in to help the staff when things got busy. This was especially true in the restaurants. From the moment we arrived we felt like welcomed guests. No standing at the desk to check in. We were seated in some nice easy chairs and given a glass of sparkling wine and a cool, moist towel. They came to us and checked us in. There was a slight mention of the opportunity to get additional freebies if we were willing to see their presentation for time shares. When we said we were not interested, it was NEVER brought up again for the entire vacation.
The room was excellent. The bed and linens were very comfortable, the room was always clean, and basically an open bar in the room. Along with a hammock on the balcony and a two person Jacuzzi in the room, we were in total relaxation mode. There was free WiFi in the rooms, which for us was a major help in keeping in touch with our family. (There were some health problems going on with my parents). I was able to keep in touch with them by using Skyp on my laptop, so calls to the states were only around two cents a minute.
We were able to get in 12 dives. It would have been more but we both came down with colds and we were unable to clear our ears. (My wife needed to see the on site doctor for which there was no charge). We used the on site dive operator, Aqua Safari. They were very professional and had very good dive masters. They use larger boats so it usually took about an hour to get to our first dive of the morning. For some this is a negative. We enjoy being our on the water and having a chance to meet and talk with the other people on the boat. We were always asked which site we wanted to dive. Two negatives about the dive operator. They tend to have large groups (it was common for there to be 10-12 people on the boat and the dive), and there is no division of the group by diver experience. Dives were always right around 45 minutes, no matter how much are you had left.
We both really enjoyed breakfast and lunch. On the days we dove we had room service for breakfast. On the other days we ate at the restaurant, which was very good. Omelets, french toast, and pancakes were all made to order. There were plenty of other choices. Lunch was either a burger by the pool or something more elaborate in the restaurant. Again, many choices. Dinner was a little disappointing. The service was excellent. However, the menus has very many choices. I think the problem is that with so many choices, they were not able to execute them with any consistency. I felt we had our best meals at the outdoor grill.
Being an all inclusive, there is a tendency to stick around the grounds. Don’t. We walked into town and had some really great dinners. We also rented a car and drove around the island. The east side is not to be missed. Great beaches. I felt like I was in a Corona commercial. We also had a relaxing lunch and drinks at Coconuts.
I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. I did not miss there not being a beach where you could walk directly into the water. I suppose after a morning of diving, I did not feel the need to be back in the ocean. I am not a “pool” person. However, we found the man made beach and the pool both very relaxing. They keep the outdoor grounds as immaculate as the inside.
We will definitely be back!!
