Tripadvisor reviews really helped us decide on the Presidente.
We stayed from Feb 28 to March 14, 2007. This was and excellent time to go, wasn't busy, very quiet and peaceful.
There is a North Wing tower and the South wing has 2 stories.
We stayed in the South Wing second floor balcony fantastic view. Just like the picture! Sandy white beach turquoise water. The room was kept spotless, very modern, spacious including a high cieling. Even has a clock radio for your Ipod, Flat panel plasma TV. You can snorkel or swim right off the private beach. Life gaurds are on Duty.
Taking a snorkel boat trip with Scubado next to the snack shack was breathtaking, a once in a life time expierence. Snorkel equipment is available, no sharks, safe and fun for anyone, just float along the fish will swim with you.
Hotel Staff really make you feel like family. This is not "just a job" these folks really make you feel welcome everyday. The outdoor formal dining room sits under a huge natural canopy and is about twenty feet from the sea. The surf sound and wonderful waiters really make for relaxing meals. The hotel didn't really start to get busy until the end of our stay, but was by no means crowded. There is a small but well equiped 24hr gym. Two tennis courts and a childrens play area, slides etc. Not a great place for infants but older children with families are regulars.
Ok what are the "Gotchas". Only two that really need correction by the Hotel management.
1)SPA; If massage and other spa activities are important too you, this will be disappointing and unethical. Although the SPA is on hotel property it is managed by a separate company.
The Price we were quoted did not equal the price we were billed. Unlike most Spas there is no price list or description of services available.
The price we were quoted, turned out to be about $150 more on our final hotel bill. We checked the paper work and found that the money exchange had been cleverly mainuplated by changeing Pesos to dollars and back again. The SPA management uses a differnt peso/dollar conversion rate than the banks, this is expected but not to this extreme. The SPA rep quoted a price without indicating there would be additonal charges, the $56 service charge for two massages and $28 dollars in Tax. Even our tip was included in the total before conversion. We have been to many wonderful SPAs and probably would have used this one five or six times over our two week stay. The old saying "Fool me once..." he facility is limited. On the Mens side the jaquizzi and steam room did not work. There are other SPAs in town when we return we will look into day use. Maybe schedule something with another hotel.
2) The other Gothcha "Its not a time share". Upon arrival we were welcomed by Maria with cooling towels and cold drinks. We were escorted to a desk in lobby and informed about all the hotel services given a map etc. Then we were invited to a "Free Breakfast" after which there would be a "short presentation" that would show us how to save 40 to 50% on our next visits. We told Maria we had been up for 28hrs and would just like to go to our rooms and rest. She pressed us again, and again we said no thanks. Over the next three days we were asked 3 more times by Maria and 2 more times by other reps, thats 4 times too many. The Hotel has a beautiful lobby on the way to the gift shop. I started to not want to walk through the lobby because I didn't want to get hit up again. So we finally agreed to the free breakfast, but then Maria told us to make sure we bring a separate form of I.D. and a credit card for the presentation that would occur after breakfast. The hotel already has our i.d and credit card number, gee wonder what this is all about? At that point we firmly said No and she responded again with "But its not a time share". I had noticed just off the lobby is a well staffed Sales
room that really reminded me of the Movie "Glen Gary Glen Ross". I know you fellas out there know exactly what I'm talking about. This is were the hard sell is really taking place.
Would we go back? Absolutely! This is a fantastic hotel, beautiful setting, The people pamper you to the point of shame. If you want peace and quiet to heal your nerves but still want a variety of fun activities you picked the right place. Two weeks anywhere nice is costly I'm glad we gambled our dollars on the Presidente Cozumel.
