This place provided a DREAM vacation for our family of four. The set up is PERFECT for families with kids!
There are ideal, pool-like swimming beaches which are shaped like horseshoes. It feels so safe to let the kids have some space there. Right next to the biggest swim area is a bar/grill hut and the spot where you rent snorkel and scuba equipment. So you can sit and drink a pina colada and watch your 9 year old snorkel both at the same time - everyone is happy! My son must have logged 8 hours a day in the water (with his UV protection shirt on, of course). The swimming pool is right there as well and was just right.
Our whole family snorkeled right off the beach to a ship wreck and to perfect-sized reefs with lots of neat stuff to look at. We have been divers for almost 20 years but still felt this was a great experience - right out the back door of the hotel! We had hours and hours of fun every day. The food there was great, and the service friendly. The building is fine (not posh, but good)- the set up makes it perfect, though. We looked around the island quite a bit and were convinced we picked the best spot.
My husband and I had an awesome time diving. We rented equipment right by the hut that I mentioned and the boat comes right up to the hotel. Everything is so convenient! Cozumel and the wall in the Caymans are tied for first place right now. What made it possible was that we felt comfortable using the babysitting service provided by the hotel. We got a very experienced sitter and she was wonderful.
One trip out in a boat with the kids to a more exotic snorkeling locale proved problematic because big waves made our little one sea sick. The water that day was just too choppy. Snorkeling off the hotel property provided more than enough for us, and the water there was really calm.
Our best day was one when we rented mopeds in town and rode around the whole island together (the kids in back). We went inland to a really cool Mayan archeological site which was awesome, and explored deserted beaches (staying VERY close to shore - there are currents). By the way, touring this island was like heaven on earth. We stopped at a few spots along the way for food or drinks, including a rad Bob Marley bar in the middle of nowhere! I simply cannot describe how clear and blue the water was, and how empty most of the island is. My kids, who were 9 and 12 at the time, have memories that will last a lifetime. This place was all fun, and no pain!
