Our family party of 14 celebrated our parents' 60th wedding anniversary at the Presidente. Every person, aged 10-82, hopes to return to ths fabulous hotel! The perfect site for such an affair, these was plenty for us to do. All participated in the remarkable snorkeling just off the beach, and enjoyed the lovely pool at all hours of day and night. The palapa bar is beautiful, and the food is yummy. We ate breakfast buffet together there each day, and they arranged a dinner on the beach one night--what a sunset! What a memory! Sorry to report the service in the palapa was slow, confused and sporadic.
Alfredo's Restaurant is even better--world-quality food and service. The terrific Italian chef consulted with us to create our own menu, and to print a personalized copy as a momento for each celebrant. One of the most memorable meals EVER!
Highly recommend the end room on the top floor overlooking the marina (#1522)--an extra-large oceanview room with windows on 3 sides facing jungle, marina, and beach. Great balcony views of the lights across the water in Playa del Carmen and the huge cruise ships arriving downtown each day.
We arranged a rental car with a US firm in advance for ~$300 a week, including insurance. This enabled us to buy water, soda and snacks at cheap prices at the local grocery, and to drive to the National Park, and beautiful, wild far side of the island. We sampled a number of amazing downtown restaurants, including La Veranda and El Casa de Mansion--each with surrounding gardens and wonderful food. College kids went clubbing in town several times and found it lots of fun--not the rowdy, rude, unsafe environment sometimes seen at Cancun.
To our delight, Isla Cozumel was better than we'd imagined--just the right size for a week of fun. This IS the finest hotel on the island, without doubt. It is beautiful and beautifully maintained, yet maintains an unpretentious and relaxed ambiance. Service and maintenance is excellent: smiling employees greet you with a chilled bottle of water when returning from jogging. The spa is inexpensive, and massages excellent. On the lengthy beach, we observed a gorgeous wedding, framed by an archway of pink ginger, pink and white roses, ivy and carnations. The President is a reasonable value considering all the activities and pleasure right on site, nice restaurants, and excellent service. Speaking Spanish helps, as it does anywhere in Latin America, but is unnecessary. The extensive gardens and long, quiet beach surrounding the hotel give one the feeling of being in a private paradise! Plenty of beach chairs and palapas--NEVER crowded--even the day the hotel was sold out!
Quiet, comfortable, beautiful understated elegance--OUR kind of vacation! We will ALL return!
We are praying that the devastation of Hurricane did not affect the wonderful, joyous people of Cozumel, nor destroy this beautiful oasis!
