Our family party of 14 celebrated our parents' 60th wedding anniversary at the Presidente. Every person, aged 10-82, hopes to return to ths fabulous hotel! The perfect site for such an affair, these was plenty for us to do. All participated in the remarkable snorkeling just off the beach, and enjoyed the lovely pool at all hours of day and night. The palapa bar is beautiful, and the food is yummy. We ate breakfast buffet together there each day, and they arranged a dinner on the beach one night--what a sunset! What a memory! Sorry to report the service in the palapa was slow, confused and sporadic.
Alfredo's Restaurant is even better--world-quality food and service. The terrific Italian chef consulted with us to create our own menu, and to print a personalized copy as a momento for each celebrant. One of the most memorable meals EVER!
Highly recommend the end room on the top floor overlooking the marina (#1522)--an extra-large oceanview room with windows on 3 sides facing jungle, marina, and beach. Great balcony views of the lights across the water in Playa del Carmen and the huge cruise ships arriving downtown each day.
We arranged a rental car with a US firm in advance for ~$300 a week, including insurance. This enabled us to buy water, soda and snacks at cheap prices at the local grocery, and to drive to the National Park, and beautiful, wild far side of the island. We sampled a number of amazing downtown restaurants, including La Veranda and El Casa de Mansion--each with surrounding gardens and wonderful food. College kids went clubbing in town several times and found it lots of fun--not the rowdy, rude, unsafe environment sometimes seen at Cancun.
To our delight, Isla Cozumel was better than we'd imagined--just the right size for a week of fun. This IS the finest hotel on the island, without doubt. It is beautiful and beautifully maintained, yet maintains an unpretentious and relaxed ambiance. Service and maintenance is excellent: smiling employees greet you with a chilled bottle of water when returning from jogging. The spa is inexpensive, and massages excellent. On the lengthy beach, we observed a gorgeous wedding, framed by an archway of pink ginger, pink and white roses, ivy and carnations. The President is a reasonable value considering all the activities and pleasure right on site, nice restaurants, and excellent service. Speaking Spanish helps, as it does anywhere in Latin America, but is unnecessary. The extensive gardens and long, quiet beach surrounding the hotel give one the feeling of being in a private paradise! Plenty of beach chairs and palapas--NEVER crowded--even the day the hotel was sold out!
Quiet, comfortable, beautiful understated elegance--OUR kind of vacation! We will ALL return!
We are praying that the devastation of Hurricane did not affect the wonderful, joyous people of Cozumel, nor destroy this beautiful oasis!

Stayed here for one week in May - weather was amazing every day and my husband and I basically sacked out on the beach almost the whole time. Went into town a few times; very easy, just a cheap 5-10 minute cab ride away. Breakfast was great in the outdoor restaurant and the food at Alfredo's was exceptional and exceeded my expectations. (I was surprised-they DO make a mean Fettucine Alfredo, not something I would ever order, especially when in Mexico!) The staff overall was friendly and helpful, rooms were cleaned several times a day and spotless, often decorated w/ fresh flowers (which in actuality could get a little messy at times....) Warning - do NOT leave any food open in your room b/c tiny bugs will find it; if you get room service, leave the remnants outside your room when you are done. Beach was not crowded at all and really lovely. We snorkeled a few times, just dove in right off the ladders into the ocean. Often the sea was a little more rough in the morning but generally calmed down a bit in the early afternoon, so if you want a more relaxing experience, wait a bit to jump in.... The iguanas on the grounds were very cool; you could feed them fruit (from the breakfat buffet!) but watch where you walk near their habitat. If you want to eat outside the resort, try Pancho's Backyard in town.

We only stayed at this property for one night (kept our room at the Hilton in Cancun) since it was cheaper to actually spend the night than take a day trip for 4 and we just wanted some snorkeling time. Positives include good snorkeling and that is about it. Room was only average, lobby was not air conditioned, staff was not even friendly and the bar tenders (and we are great tippers) were almost surly in their attitude. I am an easy traveler and was quite shocked. The pool was small and filled with dead flies. You could barely eat in the restaurant there were soooo many of them. We had breakfast off the menu and it was excellent and very reasonable in price, but the flies zoomed in and that was aggravating. Upon checkout, they charged us for 45.00 from the minibar (we didn't even open it!) and kept asking us if maybe we didn't "remember" drinking the liquor and smoking the cigarettes! We don't even smoke. Then they had to have someone investigate the situation before taking the charge off the bill. The beach is tiny and the hotel just needs some updating. Shower dripped all night. It was nice to get back to the Hilton!

My wife and I just got back Saturday night! We found the El Presidente to be a very quiet relaxing hotel! We found room service to be impeccable to the point that you have to put the do not disturb sign out!

The beach and snorkeling was superb!!! We have snorkeled all over the world and found this to be amongst the best! (Along with being super conveinent!) We seen 2 large eagle rays swim by within a few feet, lots of fish, some huge barracuda, not to much coral but take the morning snorkeling trip from the resort and you will see magnificant coral!

We found breakfast to be good, all other meals were excellent! All the staff were super friendly! We had heard that they pushed the timeshare hard, but we were never bothered!

Their were a few flys and mosquito's but they certainly minor! I would go back again in a minute! Great vacation, we were scheduled to leave Saturday at 1:00 but thanks to American Airlines we didn't leave til 4:30! With the hurricane coming it made us a little nervous!

Stayed at the Presidente July 5th for 7 days. First of all it was very hot and humid down there with lots of mosquitos. You have to use "Off" bug spray. This hotel is very nice for Mexico standards, and worth it. The food is very expensive there. The morning buffet was $18.00 which I thought was too expensive. I went to town and had breakfast for under $25 for the three of us and it was good. There are plenty of restauants in the city to eat at.We rented a car from the hotel for 6 days and was only $195.00 excluding the insurance. They wanted an extra $225.00 for insurance which I declined. The car had air-conditioning which is a must and had no problems. The beach area of the hotel is the nicest one I have seen on the island and the best snorkeling right there. Another good place to snorkel is down the road from the hotel only a mile or so at a place called Azul-Ha. No charge here either. They have a covered patio where you can sit and eat lunch, have a beer or what ever and watch out over the carribean. The rooms are nice at the Presidente and if you want to upgrade you can and the cost varys which they will explain. I would no doubt stay here again. I could go on and on so any questions feel free to e-mail me. One other thing,I would suggest if you plan on renting a car here go to Hertz web site to book it. I did and the price is cheaper than if you were to rent it there.
