My wife, our 13 year old daughter and I just returned from a week's vacation in Cozumel (2/14-21/04). We took a direct flight from Detorit (3.5 hours) each way and stayed at the Presidente Inter-Continental hotel. We had a wonderful time even though it rained for two days in the middle of our stay.Hotel - Very good food, if possible try to get the breakfast buffet included in your trip package and then go eat dinner in town. The grounds were very nicely maintained and this hotel had at least three quarters of a mile beach frontage. Never had a problem getting a lounge chair at the pool or the beach. One restaurant is at the water, open air and under a very large thatch roof. The other more expensive restaurant is totally indoors. No musty smell in our room and after talking with alot of other guests, this was not a problem anywhere in the hotel. After touring several other hotels on the island, this appears to be the best one and clealy rates four stars.Water - Clear and warm. The swimming/snorkeling areas are very large and completely roped-off. On the southern half there was a sunken barge teaming with fish. On the northern half there were many nature reefs, again with many fish. There was also sandy beach access to the water in several places versus a solid coral shore at other hotels. The onsite snorkeling is as good as it gets.Food - Very good at the hotel and was very good in town if you knew where to go. Cab ride was $6.00 each way and we ate fruit, salads, drank iced drinks, etc. with no problems.Summary - Even though we always try to go a different place on each vacation, we may just go back to the Presidente! If someone has a question, I can probably help you with a truthful answer........ irishon@aol.com.

we read all the great reviews on tripadvisor and decided to "spoil" ourselves here. our room didnt have a remote control. we had to call twice that day to finally get one.no big concern.... the same evening our room service took 1.5 hrs. and was cold.they had to take it back and re-heat it. the next day ,housekeeping forgot to clean and stock our room.around 5pm we had to request shampoo so we could shower. they finally cleaned the room that evening.we were convinced we were getting poor service now. the next day our toilet clogged and our family had to use the lobby toilet. we would have expected these things at a mexico 2-3star hotel but not a 5 star. our best service was rec'd at the restaurant. and the snorkeling is excellent there. no need to go elsewhere. accmommadations were not what we paid for. we have been to cozumel 6 times and stayed at the melia, plaza las glorias, coral princess and private vacation homes without any such problems

I just returned from 8 days (feb 7-14) at the Presidente with my boyfriend and it was the greatest vacation I have ever had! We decided to go hear based on all the great reviews we read on tripadvisor.
Definitely upgrade to the ocean view room, its worth it! You will face the beach/ocean. I recommend the 2nd level, otherwise ground level is great with doors that open directly to the beach. The room was faily big and every morning we would find a nice formation either in a heart or as two swans made of the small towels and the famous red flowers, sitting on the bed. The included daily breakfast buffet was fabulous.
Lots of variety and the restaurant sits right on the ocean. We ate in the hotel restaurant one night. We weren't that impressed. Much better places to eat in town for half the price. The people/service here was impeccable! Within a day or two the staff knows who you are and treat you like royalty. The massage on the beach is a must! It is done under a palapa outside with soft pleasant music and the ocean in the background. Not bad for $75. There are two tennis courts, rackets and balls are free of charge and no reservations needed. Just go when you want. The best snorkeling on the island is right in front of the hotel's beaches. I have never gone snorkeling before and it was just wonderful! There are plenty of lounge chairs both by the pool and on the beach so there is no need to run out early in the morning to snag one. All the chairs by the pool have a 2 inch cushion covered with a towel and a terry cloth neck roll and their signature red flower. I highly reccomend renting a car for a day to explore the other parts of the island that consists of jungle and a beautiful stretch of deserted beach. There are a few ruins and restaurants along the way. Stop and explore, take some pictures, eat some lunch and do some sunbathing! The best shrimp fahitas I have ever had were at a place called Coconuts Grill. There's a big sign on the road, you can't miss it. A few restarants we enjoyed in town were Prima for great italian, La Mission(there is one in the main town area and another farther back towards the airport-go to that one. You will find in the back garden a few lions and spider monkeys to check out, and the food was fabulous!
Our favorite meal!)

My fiancee and I spent eight days in early January at the Presidente and absolutely loved it. The best part is that we got a superior ocean view room and airfare for only $2,130.00 for eight nights. I booked our trip through hotwire.com and got a rate of $1,980.00 for eights nights in a deluxe garden view room and airfare on U.S. Airways for two. With vacation packages, hotwire.com lets you see the hotel you're selecting but not the airline or flight itinerary. But we got the exact same flights as if we booked it through U.S. Airways directly. I then learned from a review on tripadvisor.com about the perks of joining the Intercontinental's Six Continents Club. For an initial annual fee of $150, among other things you get a room upgrade. After the first year it's an annual fee of only $50.00. I joined the Club and e-mailed the hotel with my member number and they upgraded us to a superior ocean view room. I researched hotel and airline packages on other sites and we saved $900 using hotwire.com. And a room upgrade was $60 a night so minus the $150 we saved another $330. We ate almost every meal (my fiancee loved the fajitas) at the Presidente and drank like fish. Our bill at the end of the week was about $1,100 which made the total cost about the same as the all-inclusive hotels but staying at a much better hotel. If I return to Cozumel, it'll be to the Presidente.

Spent seven glorious days at El Presidente starting Jan. 17th. Upon arrival, without the $150 fee, our garden view room was upgraded to oceanview. Although not a gorgeous room, it provided us with plenty of space, a terrace and a view of the beach and ocean. The hotel is beautifully maintained, with a lovely beach, ample shade and seating, and a staff that is the best I have ever experienced. All requests were pleasantly and quickly taken care of for my husband and myself. The outdoor dining for breakfast was just a perfect setting. Our package included the buffet breakfast and tips...so we had no complaints about the prices. We did eat in the more formal dining room, and would recommend it as a must for all guests. Spent time in town, eating at Prima (great food), Casa de Maison (disappointing) and La Veranda (romantic, and good food). Pepe's Grille was too noisy, and the service was slow. Eat in the hotel. Try the massage, outdoors, soft music and the sound of the water...well worth the $75. JUst about a mile away, is the cruise ship port, and you can get all your shopping done there....
We had a driver take us around the island and were were able to see some beautiful scenery, ruins and water sights. Try snorkeling at the hotel. The Scuba Du staff is very helpful. We would recommend the El Presidente - you will have a relaxing, pampered time.
