I just returned from 8 days (feb 7-14) at the Presidente with my boyfriend and it was the greatest vacation I have ever had! We decided to go hear based on all the great reviews we read on tripadvisor.
Definitely upgrade to the ocean view room, its worth it! You will face the beach/ocean. I recommend the 2nd level, otherwise ground level is great with doors that open directly to the beach. The room was faily big and every morning we would find a nice formation either in a heart or as two swans made of the small towels and the famous red flowers, sitting on the bed. The included daily breakfast buffet was fabulous.
Lots of variety and the restaurant sits right on the ocean. We ate in the hotel restaurant one night. We weren't that impressed. Much better places to eat in town for half the price. The people/service here was impeccable! Within a day or two the staff knows who you are and treat you like royalty. The massage on the beach is a must! It is done under a palapa outside with soft pleasant music and the ocean in the background. Not bad for $75. There are two tennis courts, rackets and balls are free of charge and no reservations needed. Just go when you want. The best snorkeling on the island is right in front of the hotel's beaches. I have never gone snorkeling before and it was just wonderful! There are plenty of lounge chairs both by the pool and on the beach so there is no need to run out early in the morning to snag one. All the chairs by the pool have a 2 inch cushion covered with a towel and a terry cloth neck roll and their signature red flower. I highly reccomend renting a car for a day to explore the other parts of the island that consists of jungle and a beautiful stretch of deserted beach. There are a few ruins and restaurants along the way. Stop and explore, take some pictures, eat some lunch and do some sunbathing! The best shrimp fahitas I have ever had were at a place called Coconuts Grill. There's a big sign on the road, you can't miss it. A few restarants we enjoyed in town were Prima for great italian, La Mission(there is one in the main town area and another farther back towards the airport-go to that one. You will find in the back garden a few lions and spider monkeys to check out, and the food was fabulous!
Our favorite meal!)
