My husband and I stayed at the Presidente from 4/26 - 5/3, and what a wonderful stay it was! We had an ocean view room, which was quite spacious, with a lovely view of the beach and ocean. Our room had a rather large balcony where we enjoyed our morning coffee, overlooking the sea. The hotel staff could not have been more attentive or pleasant. The Presidente is by far the nicest hotel on the island. The hotel grounds are immaculate (there is always someone working on the grounds, no matter the hour), and our room itself was very clean. You will definitely see a few iguanas sunning themselves outside on the grass (which my husband found pretty cool), but not to worry, they don't come near you!

There is wonderful snorkeling right off the hotel's beach (bring your own snorkel equipment so you don't have to rent it for your entire stay). You can literally step into the water and see all sorts of tropical fish! If pools are more your thing, there are 2 of them. The main pool is oceanside, and that's where the families tend to hang out. If you'd like to enjoy a pool without kids around, there is an adult pool tucked away in a courtyard, which is a really nice option. Beachside food/beverage service is very good- they make fantastic mango daiquiris!

The spa at the Presidente is just ok. I had an 80 minute massage, which was very nice, and a manicure and pedicure. I think the spa services are a little overpriced, and the spa atmosphere isn't as "spa-like" as it should be for this hotel (it's kind of simple and basic).

The restaurants at the hotel are very good. Alfredo's is excellent (try the fettuccine alfredo), as is the hotel's main restaurant (we had lunch under the giant palapa almost every day). They also serve a very nice breakfast buffet.

Recommendations in town: Pancho's Backyard is hands-down the best restaurant in Cozumel. Very nice atmosphere, huge drinks...the enchilladas con mole are to die for! La Choza, Prima, and Casa Mission are also excellent. The best shop in town is Los Cinqos Soles (you actually go through this store to get to Pacho's Backyard)- wonderful pottery, glassware, silver jewelry, etc. The cab fare to town from the hotel is only $5, so we pretty much went into town every night for dinner and to do some shopping. If you like sweets, then you definitely need to save room for dessert and seek out the street vendor in the middle of town who sells the Churros! Amazing!

You should definitely rent a Jeep one day and explore the other side of the island. You can check out the private beaches, have lunch at the Rasta Bar, see the ruins, etc.

All in all, we had a wonderful time. We will definitely be back to Cozumel, and when we return, we will definitely be staying at the Presidente.

  • Liked — Laid-back atmosphere, the beach, being only 10 minutes from shops/restaurants.
  • Disliked — The spa was nice, but it could be better.

We just got back from Cozumel and one of the highlights of the trip was our stay at the Presidente Hotel & Spa. I have been to many 5 star hotels all over the world and this one ranks among the best. This is definetly the best hotel in Cozumel and I would highly recommend this place. The rooms are very nice and clean and the ocean view rooms are well worth the money. The grounds and property are very clean and there is always staff working on the property. The two pools are very nice and there was never a big crowd so it was very pleasant. The staff at the hotel was very helpful and they were always there if you needed anything.

I plan on staying at this hotel on all my trips to Cozumel and I would highly recommend it for a great vacation!!

Had a great time at the Presidente last month. The hotel is a beautiful, if pricey, facility a few miles south of town. We were greeted at reception with cool drinks (and the typical attempt at getting us to attend a time share promotion) and then wisked off to our emaculate room overlooking the channel. The room was spacious and clean.

The beach is a broad, man made, band of white sand generously populated with beach chairs and palapas. The beach is built over the exposed rocky outcropping of the Mayan Reef. Three short piers reach out into the ocean providing easy access to the water. The reef itself is not all that spectacular, probably heavily damaged by Hurricane Wilma, but the rocks are swarming with tropical fish. On the south end is small wreck in about 20 feet of water that is a fish magnet.

Food at the resort was excellent. In the main restaurant, they plied us with small samples of hors'd oeuvres and desserts. We had room service several times and the service was quick, the waiters set a nice table, and the food was as good as at the restaurant.

The only complaint was that at times an unpleasant odor came from the bathroom, but the room did have an ozone generator to combat that minor issue. It was not an issue.

One day we went into town, a colorful small city brimming with jewelry shops. The last day we drove around the island, spending time at the Punta Sur Ecological Park with its lagoons, herons, buzzards, and crocodiles. Massive waves break on the Atlantic shore.

Overall we had a great stay.

This was a fantastic trip of snorkeling, laying at the beach, dining out at authentic restaurants, and walking around the beautiful streets. For the best experience, i recommend staying at this resort for no more that 4 or 5 days. After about 6 days I was tired of experiencing the same things everyday. The service and features were great and everything, but after a while one is in need of a new atmosphere and such.

  • Liked — Great service, beautiful scenery and environment.
  • Disliked — A lot of money, not all inclusive
