“Relax and scuba”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

The location is perfect. It is. 5 to 10 minute taxi ride to town or about an hour walk. It is right on the beach, and quiet and peaceful. There is a dive shop at the hotel and they take you by boat right from the hotel. The dive sites are all within a 30 minute boat ride from the hotel. For the two tank dives you leave the dock at 8 and are back by 12:30 where you can sit on the beach and have lunch. For a minimal fee of $5/ day they will wash your dive equipment, hang it to dry and have it ready for you the next day. The food is excellent too. We didn't leave the hotel much because the hotel was the nicest part of the island.

Room Tip: We enjoyed stayin gon the first floor on the beach. Then, after scuba and a shower we just sat outs...

We just returned from our first stay at Presidente Inter-Continental in Cozumel. It was our third trip to Cozumel with our two kids and about our 10th trip to Mexico. We usually do all inclusive but thought we'd try a nicer resort this time. Our son was diagnosed as gluten intolerant a year ago, and we thought it would be easier for all of us if we could talk to chefs and eat in the city (and it was!). I contacted the resort a month before our arrival and Chef Daniel responded personally with some gluten free options for our son. The food was freshly prepared. The servers, bar tenders, front desk staff and cleaning pros were all extremely nice. It was pricey, but we were expecting that, and so we did do some grocery shopping for snacks and beverages. We ordered drinks intermittently and ate a snack for lunch and breakfast and dinner at the resort or in town.

Things I LOVED: lots of clean, dry towels, freshly prepared food, interesting guests to meet, the snorkeling was amazing! We saw sting rays, lion fish, parrot fish, eels, barracudas and many other fish.
We upgraded our room to a beach side and it was so worth it. We snorkeled several times a day. We could literally walk out or door and in about 700 feet, be in the ocean seeing amazing sights. We had a patio that was perfect for drying our great and keeping our room clean. The resort was full of divers and snorkelers, so our equipment was safe. My husband and our son took a scuba lesson with Franciso. He gives a free intro lesson in the pool. And then no pressure-you can take a 2 hour classroom and ocean lesson that counts toward certification. My 11 year old loved this. Francisco is a father, dive master and was very knowledgeable and patient.

My son did have a mishap in the pool. He stepped on a broken tile on his way out and badly cut his foot. The life guards took excellent care of him that day. The next day we had to call the front desk as the bleeding needed to be controlled. They had an on staff paramedic who came to our room every morning for the rest of the week to clean the wound and re-dress it. Because he missed some water days, they took care of his drinks and food for Wed-Sunday. I am going to contact their management company and insist they fix the pool because we found several broken tiles during the week and they were all very sharp.

All in all, we are usually easy, happy travelers who are just content to be away from the harsh Chicago winter. Things are different in Mexico and that is what we like. If you like to enjoy the ocean wild life and enjoy meeting interesting people from all over the U.S. and globe, this is a nice treat. We would definitely go back.

Side note-we ate at Fettucine's the last night-their in house Italian restaurant and it was very good!

Hints: buy some food and drink in town and intersperse them with resort items to save money. Bring your own snorkel gear if you've got it.

Room Tip: The upgrade to beach front is worth it!!

I had high expectations for this hotel given the reviews, price and also having stayed at amazing resorts across the way in Riviera Maya.

Positives
+Room size
+Large property
Beautiful views
+Location- I preferred not staying right in downtown

Negatives
-Sounds in room - acoustics are terrible and you can hear everything in the hallways and people in other rooms next to you and in floor adjacent. Expect to be woken up early in the morning.
-Service- "instant service" not so instant. Had to ask for things multiple times. Service inconsistent.
-Hidden fees- I booked through Amex and upon check in I was told there was an additional 12$ a day to clean my room
-Spa- facilities extremely dated. I wouldn't book there just by the looks.

I stayed in a pool view room. I thought I would regret not booking ocean view but now having stayed there it is definitely not worth the extra money.

Overall it's a beautiful property but does not compare to other 5 star hotels.

I had no idea what to expect when I arrived, but this was truly paradise!! The staff were so friendly and accomodating. Whatever your needs may have been they went out of their way to serve.
We were there for a wedding and the arrangements and decor were out of this world. It was absolutely stunning and so organized!! Every detail was attended to!
The rooms were spacious and clean, as they were serviced twice per day. I loved the outdoor rain showers and hammocks. It made for a very relaxing atmosphere. I also enjoyed the bedtime stories left on our beds each night.
The location is close enough to town to enjoy it, but far enough away to avoid the constant cruise ship tourists.
Such an amazing trip! Thank you for everything!!

Room Tip: Many of the first floor units with ocean or pool views have hammocks and outdoor rain showers!! I h...

Stayed in an ocean view room. Grat view for the most part but slight destracted by the roof on the floor below. It was large and comfortable and really nicely decorated. Adult pool was very quiet, but no beach view. Some of the buildings look older and have a little grunge factor going on. Seemed really out of place because the rest of the hotel is really grand in terms of wow factor. They offer dive lessons and all that, and there are different areas you can just jump in and snorkel all along the beach. Very extensive beach areas. Nice restaraunt and bar at the far end of the hotel, but the wine selection wasnt that great. Its a very large place and the bungalos right on the beach look amazing. Excellent service. Pricy. I cant give it 5 stars because the quality to price ratio was just shy of that for me. But definatley the nicest place to stay in Cozumel. I also stayed at the Iberostar on the same trip. Very different experience. This place is quiet and not resorty.

This was our second visit in the past 6 years and we enjoyed ourselves just like before. The four of us (husband, wife, two now young-adult children) were charmed as before by the warm and willing staff. The property is gorgeous, with a long, wide sandy beach. The rooms are spacious, although spare of wall art, a bit underlit, and lacking in clothing hooks. But the ocean-view balconies afford spectacular views. This is a place for people who perfer being treated as welcome guests rather than visiting royalty. Scubadu is a very good dive shop on the premises. Restaurants are good here on the property, and in town at La Cocay and Kinta, but don't go to Cozumel for night life or Michelin-star restaurants. It's all about diving, snorkling, beach lolling, and quiet. Consider making lunch with a local cook, Josefina, at her home in town. Great fun. Your concierge can find her.
