“Everything you need to know about the El Presidente Cozumel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

I have been staying at the El Presidente, Cozumel for 30 years. My most recent trip was in November of 2012. The El Presidente is the most luxurious and most expensive hotel in Cozumel that being said no hotel can be everything to everyone. The El Prez is not an all inclusive like many Cozumel resorts. At all inclusive hotels people never leave, they tend to stay at the bar to drink their moneys worth , which can lead to a lot of heavy drinking hence the El Prez has always been more laid back and less of a party than other places. At the El Prez more people are adventuring out to eat or drink. It's more of "bring your own party" than a "come and join the party" kind of place. On previous trips I let my 10 year old have the run of the place without hesitation, it's a great family environment and very secure. On the other hand If you travel at times other than Christmas or Spring break you are not likely to see any kids at all. The El Prez can create romantic candlelight dinners on the beach and you can order from any of the restaurants to your room.

Accommodations

Rooms are immaculate. The El Prez uses very high quality linens and pillows, all rooms have wireless internet access and flat screen televisions with satellite movies etc. Separate showers and tubs in most rooms, high quality bath robes, slippers and all the little amenities you expect from a luxury hotel. Rooms have coffee makers with unlimited complimentary coffee pods. Mini bar in room. 24 hour room service.

The best and most expensive rooms are the Reef Rooms and the Beachfront Superior rooms(5100's). All of these rooms are located directly on the beach, you open your door and you are literally on the beach. If you travel with younger children they can run to and from your room without your assistance which can be a great luxury. The Reef Rooms cost slightly more and have their own concierge and are located on the Northern end of the hotel. I prefer the slightly less expensive Beachfront Superior rooms on the Southern end which have a slightly larger beach and and a 2nd outside shower located within your room. The best room for the best price rooms are the pool front rooms located in the Northern end of the hotel across from the Reef rooms.

Amenities.

Wireless internet is available throughout the hotel meaning on the beach and poolside and in the restaurants. if you like to stay plugged in you can do it !
Two beautiful swimming pools, one is hidden and a little more private the other is located adjacent to the main dining room which is a palapa right on the ocean.

Spa: Nice to have, but not the reason to stay at the El Prez, Complimentary access to the health club and steam room is a recent change !

Watersports : You can snorkel or scuba right off the beach at the hotel. The hotel has jetskis' and can probably arrange just about anything you want

Food: The hotels main restaurant is located right on the water in a giant palapa, a great place to watch the sunset. 24 hour room service is available, and Alfredo's a delicious on site Italian restaurant.Alfredo's food can be ordered to your room. Food and drink is served poolside and beachside, good guacamole, and beef fajita nachos ! The hotel has a daily breakfast buffet that runs about 20.00$ US... Its has a variety of fresh squeezed juices and fresh fruit , a couple American cereals, bacon sausage, hame , smoked salmon, omelets cooked to order, chillaquilles coffee, toast , bagels etc or you can order alacarte

2 tennis courts

Club for kids, arts and crafts for kids and adults.

DIVING: Scuba Du the onsite diver operator. Conveniently located at the hotel they will load and unload and maintain your dive gear for the duration of your stay provided that you dive with them. I have had some good experiences with Scuba Du and like most of their divemasters but I find the attitude of the management a little too sour and not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. They want you to pay in American cash which is also hassle. Most other dive operators in Cozumel will pick you up in their boat at the Presidente. they will keep and maintain your gear as well.

Rental cars are available at the hotel.

SERVICE:The service at the El Prez is outstanding, They will attempt to arrange whatever you want and really go the extra mile for you.

Tips go a long way in Mexico and most of the employees rely on this important source of income
When I arrive I generally tip the bellman and valet about 20.00$ us and ditto for the front desk concierge, housekeeping and the guy that leans the scuba gear....you can't imagine the value of this 100.00$ us is a small fraction of what you will spend on a week at the El Prez You will be rewarded with service beyond compare....be smart give it to them when you arrive...not when you leave !!!!!!!!

CONTACT THE HOTEL DIRECT FOR THE BEST PRICE BETTER THAN ANY WEBSITE !!!!

We spent a few days with two other couples in Cozumel at the Presidente Intercontinental. This is a wonderful facility to relax and enjoy. Excellent staff and genuine service from the very first moment until the last good-bye. A perfect place for romantics, honeymooners and people who like a peaceful environment and tranquil atmosphere. The rooms are superb, excellent bedding, high class linen, the food and beverage area offers many choices. All in all a great place to stay. The pool is very nice for both relaxing and swimming, the fitness and spa are in excellent condition, great snorkling just in front of the hotel beach.

This hotel is really nice, The service is incredible, the personnel treats you really nice. You May find delicious food at The principal restaurant with a great sight. You may swim between the reefs within the hotel beach. the hotel has equipment for snorkeling or diving for very cheap prizes for all day. Also as Car rental is The only way to meet The Other half of The island (from 6:00 to 17:00), The hotel provides this service too. There are 2 available pools: 1 for adults and 1 familiar, however The adults pool is not deep (about 1.30mts). In general it is a really nice place to stay.

Absolutely the best setting in entire Cozumel. If you want the best, the most luxurious, this is it. Location is just perfect, away from the downtown's hustle and bustle as well as the cruise crowd. Very calm, quite and serene setting. Fantastic restaurants that serve both local and superb Italian cuisine. I had a suite room which had a terrific view of the ocean. One of the largest suite rooms I've seen. My spouse felt the spa was great but with US prices. Hotel gym is nothing much to speak of and could use an upgrade as the equipment is old and sparse. But the setting is so relaxing and lovely, one cannot be smitten by the setting and view from an ocean front room. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: All ocean front rooms have fantastic views and are right off the beach.

This was our first time at the Presidente Intercontinental and it was absolutely wonderfull! The service and staff are excellent, could not be nicer nor more accomodating, management knew us by name, and regularly stopped to visit with us. We cannot begin to tell you what a great time we had at this resort!! We nearly had the place to ourselves since we were told this was the off season, the weather could not have been nicer. We rented snorkeling gear for $10 US for 24 hours out at the hotel beach at Scuba Du. We also rented a jeep from Thrifty inside the hotel and rode all over the island for one day. Our Concierce's Johnny and Jorge were very helpfull in providing maps, directions, prices, restaurants and places to visit. We enjoyed snorkeling at several other places on the island with our hotel rented snorkel gear, but actually enjoyed snorkeling on the hotel's beach the best. It was our 26th wedding anniversary so the hotel upgraded us to a pool side, outdoor shower room upon arrival. We paid with PC points, so after a conversation with some additional staff, they PC Platinum upgraded us again to an ocean view room. This room was amazing, being waterfront but second floor. Would not hesitate to pay for an upgrade to this room (5200's) when in season. All in all, one of our best vacations, spending time with my beautiful wife in an ideal location. Will certainly visit again.

Room Tip: We loved the views from the 5200's. 2100, 3100 and 5100 are all waterfront, but would stay in th...

Last week was our second time at the Presidente Intercontinental, and on both occasions it was absolutely fabulous! The service is excellent - the staff could not be nicer nor more accomodating; management knew us by name, and regularly stopped to visit with us; our room was spacious, comfortable and as clean as one could imagine; the food was delicious. I cannot imagine a better place to get away and relax. I have travelled to over 50 countries, and stayed at hundreds of hotels, and the Presidente is clearly the best.

Room Tip: A ground level beach or reef room is the best; sitting on the terrace, drinking coffee and looking...

I have come here every year for the past eight years for scuba diving with their on-site PADI dive operation, Scuba Du. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the staff really are pleasant and go out of their way to make a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. The buffet breakfasts are very good, and the restaurant dining is more than adequate, although I usually go to town for some lunches and dinners. The beach and pools at the hotel are very private, and the whole experience is satisfying, particularly because you are insulated from the cruise boat crowds farther to the north on the island. I would suggest renting a car or jeep for a easy day trip to the east (windward) side of the island. By the way, the diving is top notch and Scuba Du has great divemasters on staff. The coral seems to have been declining a bit during the years I have been going, however.
