My husband and I stayed from Nov. 29th through Dec.3rd, 'When we left Austin, it was cold. By the time we landed it was nice warm weather. When you land, you get off the plane outside and are directed to follow a path inside to the airport. It was a little uncomfortable to see their police walking around with their guns. It would be nice if they could smile instead of just looking at you. Be sure to fill out and sign the forms they give you on the plane. The flight attendant just told us to fill it out and then once inside they told us all to make sure we signed the back. After the dog sniffed our luggage we made our way through a security gate. Try to follow someone who has been here before or they will direct you to the left where they will tell you they are trying to tell you about the island but they are basically trying to sign you up for tours and get your committment to see a new hotel or something. You're better off going to the right and paying for your ticket to take a van to your hotel. Apparently they don't let taxi's pick you up right outside the airport (you have to walk) a short distance. There are plenty of van's to take you so get your ticket and load up. We were surprised to see how much better Cozumel is after the hurricane. Alot of new places since our last visit 13 yrs ago. The hotel was even prettier than we remembered it and the staff are just exceptional. They always greet you in some way. We have never had such wonderful treatment. We did have a problem with the shower in our 1st room (#3105). It was a beautiful room with a patio facing the water. The only problem was the shower door did not keep the water in. and no place to hang your towel. When we took showers the water would flood the bathroom, hallway, and the neighbors entry into their room. They did try to correct the problem but after a 2nd flooding we asked if we could switch rooms. We were very happy to get room # 2133 which is a suite with two bathrooms, breakfast table, and living room area. Very spacious. It was amazing. They moved all of our things for us and made sure that we were happy with the move. Boy were we. No problems with the shower in this one and the tub was much bigger. The tub in 3105 is a one person tub. In 2133 you have alot more room. The beds are very comfortable. I took my own pillow but found that their pillows were soft enough. They give you plenty of towels to use and have really good soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. The brand is Elemis. They do have qtips, cotton balls, tissues, and blow dryers in the room. There is an iron, ironing board, safe, and laundry bag, and mini fridge in each room. We never felt our valuables were in jeaopordy. In fact, I had left my husbands PDA phone under a hand towel on a beach table and when I reported it they must have misunderstood and thought I said it was stolen because the concierge and security came to the room to check everything out. I made sure to tell them that it was my fault entirely but I was hoping someone on the staff had found it. No one had turned it in at that time but once they checked laundry, it was returned in about 20 minutes. Great service. We were close to the adult pool which serves drinks and hardly ever had anyone there. We never layed out there because the beach area was too nice and they bring whatever you want straight to you. The pina coladas are very good and ask for a Michelada is you are a beer drinker. Very good. We had the best food at Del Caribe. Try the Lime soup. It is fantastic. I had it every chance I could. We did eat at Alfredo's one night and it is very nice but a heavier meal. Again, great service. Be sure to ask for a receipt for everything. It just makes it easier to check your bill. We wrote a note on each of ours (ex: breakfast, lunch, etc). It really helped to cross reference. The staff always seemed very appreciative of tips. Since the hurricane they have not had as many tourist so they rely heavily on their tips. I heard that the staff at this hotel is better paid than other hotels. It is seen in the level of service BUT they still rely on tips. We had Jorge as our Concierge on our arrival and he made sure we had everything we needed. I asked him to track down a few things for me (including some candle jars that I purchased) and he didn't miss a beat. He brought me three sizes to look at. We were also very impressed by Julio who works at both restaurants and waits on the beach area at times. He was so nice. Most everyone spoke pretty good english. Some advice, look up the name of a not so great hotel in town so when you are shopping and they ask where you are staying, say you are staying at a cheap place. If you mention El Presidente, they will say "Oh, you are rich" and then you might not get the best deal. We were advised to shop later in the day (after all the cruise people went back to ship). Apparently they raise the price for the cruisers. All the stores have basically the same stuff. I would suggest Pama as a very nice store to visit. It has above par items and not the trinkets that the majority of stores have. You almost have to be rude when walking the shop area because they will do their best to talk you into their store. We ate at a couple of places in town that werent near as good as at the hotel. One of them was recommended by the hotel (La Choza). We weren't impressed. Margaritaville was good (just really loud). Oh, before I forget, they don't have sweet-n-low (for tea or coffee). Luckily I always carry some in my purse. Ask Julio to make you a Toasted Almond if you want a great after dinner drink. We did not rent a vehicle to site see even though I really wish now that we would have. It would have been nice to drive through town and look at the homes. I'm pretty leary of going into places I'm not familiar with but I would be comfortable driving around during the day in town (just not in the main shopping areas). There are so many taxis, horse drawn buggies, and people on mopeds (with little kids) that it just looks like an accident waiting to happen. There is a nice grocery store in town called "Chedraui". If you get a chance, check it out. If you take a cab, it is always $5 dollars back an forth from the hotel to town. We only had one person tell us $6. We always gave about $7 for each trip. I know this post is kinda all over the board with info but I just want to include information that I feel would have been helpful to me. Remember to take an extra bag with you for all those items you purchase. The hotel will ship items for you (if needed). They have a nice gift shop with sun tan lotion, books, gifts, etc. There is also some nice gift shops at the airport so if you miss picking up something in town, you will have another opportunity before bording the plane. The food and drinks at the hotel seemed to be a little higher than norm but we had no complaints. We rented snorkeling gear from Scuba Du for $10 a day. We saw plenty of fish and even saw about 8 to 10 dolphins out in the distance. Watch out for the black birds on the beach. They will happily share your food when you are away from your table and go thru your things looking for food. We only saw a few kids during our visit. There is a play area for kids that is close to the tennis courts and outside ping pong tables. Be sure to walk back behind the tennis courts to the place where the Iguanas are. They take all their old plants back there and are working to make a really nice area back there. There is one huge orange Iquana there. I did go to the Spa for a mani pedi. Carmen did a good job but she looked so unhappy. I think I was an unexpected appointment at the end of a long day for her. She really didn't speak any english so it was a quite time. The spa looked very nice from what I could see. I don't know what else to write about but hopefully you get the big picture, El Presidente is a fantastic place to stay and Cozumel is more beautfiul than ever. We had a rain forecast for 3 days and only saw a few rain drops. So don't let a bad forecast get you down. We had beautiful weather and a wonderful time. I would HIGHLY recommend it.

We just returned to the US after ten days at the Presidente. I miss it already. We havbe been visitng this hotel for the past 11 years during the Thanksgiving Hoidays. We have stayed there 15 times since we have also been there during the summer and spring break.
The Hotel is more beautiful now than before the hurricane. Their renovations very impressive.
Our room was great. The food and service are the best as always.
The Chef at Alfredos was great! The wine selection was very nice.
Our family feels like family there at the hotel.
We will will contune our trips there.

We arrived at the hotel kind of late on Saturday 10 November. We were extremely tired and exhausted. Out of the corner of my eye I looked for time share sharks, being forewarned. Guess what. None. Instead, a nice young man with cold water and cool towels was there while we scrambled to find our papers and get checked in. Gracioiusnness seemed too abound from check-in too departure. As we settled in our room, which was an ocean suite, a knock on the door came. It was another employee with a little chocolate mouse all decorated. I swear....I must have had chocoholic imprinted on my forehead.

It was too late to travel anyhere by taxie, so we decided to have diner at what Presidente calls their casual restaurant which is open air, but protected from high winds with partial glass panels. This was perfect. A guitar player playing spanish guitar was there and no he did not bug us. We had drinks and lobster tail, which we shared with a resident cat (the lobster, not the drinks). No rush, and I had to remind my husband you had to ask for the check.
Each day we had fresh flowers and all the water we wanted in our room. They even give you a little beach basket with beach towels in it to use poolside or on the beach. Poolside and beach side, there was always a lounge available and they put fresh flowers on the lounge chairs in the morning, along with extra towels.

Husband Mike loved just sitting on the beach and waiting for our favorite waiter Teo to walk by. We always ordered drinkss and lunch on the beach as they made it so convenient with a little table and wooden boxes for the food, cloth napkins and first class all the way. There was not a lunch I did not love and I am fussy. Just wish I could have saved all the leftovers.

I had heard about the hard beds in Mexico and was prepared to order an extra mattress pad. However, the bed was wonderful, comfortable and with smooth, cool Egyptian cotton linens and plenty of pillows. I don't know if they remembered when I made the reservations that I told them I had asthma, but there was also an air cleaner in the room. The bathroom had this huge tub on a separate glassed in balcony. I could float in that tub and they had candles all around it. There were always at least six towels in the bathroom, not counting the fresh beach towels in the basket every day. The shower was also huge with a seat in iti. Perfect for my 6'4" husband who loves long showers.

On my birthday, they sent a cake up to the room that was wonderful chocolate mouse with hard chocolate lining and Happy Birthday on the plate. (they must have seen me coming)
I think the most gracious act was when I had an awful accident the last day of our vacation. I was trying to dampen my snorkel mask and slipped. I fell on some rocksand dislocated my wrist. We thought it was broke as the bone was sticking out about three inches where it was not suppose to be. The lifeguard ran down the steps as my husband ran over to me and immediately started wrapping it and called on the cell phone for a car to take me to the hospital. The driver of the car stayed all afternoon and evening with me at the hospital. Husband later tipped him well, which was the least we could do. I was scared and the hospital was unfamiliar, but all spoke English and I ended up being wrapped like a mummy and given sufficient pain medication to help. As we returned to the hotel. I mentioned to my husband that I was not hungry for dinner, but could use some chocolate ice cream to kill the bad taste in my mouth from all the medication. Two minutes after we settled in the room, the hotel sent up a big dish of chocolate ice cream and a chocolate cookie on the house with their well wishes.

I just don't see how this hotel could be matched. Of course it is not the least expensive, but you definately get what you pay for. I would never stay anywhere else. Later I will write to the staff and thank each and every dear person who helped me and served us. And by the way, we never did get approached by one time shark. Not one. When I made the reservations, I mentioned my husband would not like any sales pitches and lo and behold, I think they made a note of every little comment I made. Great choice of hotels for anybody and beautiful views.

We just returned from The Presidente IC- Cozumel, we stayed last 2 weeks of Oct 2007.(Husb and 4 1/2 year old). We lived in the Eastern Carib & have visited most all of the islands there and the Presidente was as nice as Little Dix Bay- in BVI.( our gold standard) and the island was gorgeous with so much to do and see. We got a free up grade to Ocean front room, with 2 showers, (1 outside )and a HUGE bathroom, tub, double vanity. Our deal incl. free meals for our child and the kids menu was more than fine. Plenty of closet and drawer space to unpack. We literally walked steps from our patio into some of the best snorkeling ever! My 4 year old snorkeled with us, the beach was the best of all of the hotels. The pool is elegant not cheesy, like with a swim up bar - ugh. There is also an adult pool. If it got too cold for a night swim, they would turn the water heater on. The service was outstanding, never met the manager, but the assistant manager ? name?, tended to our every need. Our Room was spacious & immaculate- it was wonderful to come in every afternoon to pristine room, with towel animals and fresh flowers(Hola T). B/c of low season, we felt like we had the resort to ourselves at times. Most of the guests we met were repeaters to the Presidente! The weather ran the gamut- we chose the overcast days to visit San Gervasio ruins and to shop for silver and pewter -( finished my Holiday shopping) or paint pottery by the pool. We had a wonderful babysitter one night- so hubby and I could shop and dine in town( Hola A.)! We ate at Alfredo's twice, celebrated our anniv. hotel sent a delicious surprise! Eating at the resort for all meals got expensive, so we ate in town and had fabulous meals- cheap. And No One got sick. We researched all inclusive resorts, but typically food is average at best, so we liked ordering what we wanted at the Pres. A cab ride to town cost $5usd, but we tipped 1 or 2 bucks. We did not rent a car, should have, but enjoyed talking to the drivers & learned a lot. Most drive VW- version of Jetta or van. I felt safer in town than where I live. the ppl. are as nice and laid back as can be. I had the Fodor's book on Cozumel and read Trip Advisor posts, which were all on the money as far as recommendations and useful info. My husb. speaks Spanish, but he did not need it, cept that he loved talking to the cab drivers and restaurant owners. All of the parks were excellent and very professional, plenty of beach chairs, all u need is a towel! We spent 1 day at Chankanaub Park, we did the Royal Dolphin swim- $139pp, worth Every penny but try to go on a day with few cruise ships. 2 days at Punta Sur, an eco park, with calm crystal waters, white sandy beaches and snorkeling. Horseback riding and ATV ride through the jungle at Mr. Sanchos on a cloudy day. Snorkeling trip w/ Scuba Du, the on-site dive shop, And so much more to do! * OK- the downside- the hotel charges, taxes, fees, add up- so plan on that. Dining cover charge is $10, plus tip, but those guys work hard. When you arrive, you will be greeted by a sales group for the hard sell- Just Say NO from the get go. A Supposed "free rental car or spa visit " was not worth being pinned down for an appointment time & listening to the hour plus spiel about a vacay club. I Never was clear about the Chiqui club for kids, maybe b/c of low season? Hopefully it will be staffed w/ ppl like our our great babysitter!
The spa was beautiful but re-check the price Before the service. We prolly over tipped- but with a messy 4 year old, $5/day for room cleaning was worth it.Plus - turn down service. Bring lots of fives and ones. Overall- it was our best vacation as a family, great for everyone, except maybe ppl looking for a big party scene. Morning coffee in room was free, but their cappuccino was better than Starbucks! Would not change one thing about our stay at the Presidente IC, Cozumel. Hope to be a repeat guest!

  • Liked — Our room: spacious, the view, patio, outside private shower, huge bathroom, lots of clothing space.
  • Disliked — would have liked to have mini-bar items out of fridge - to use for odas, water etc..

We stayed at the Presidente InterContinental Cozumel for several days in HOT HOT July. Actually, going during the hot months is worth it. The city and beaches are way less crowded. Unless you have a suite, the rooms are pretty rustic. We even found a lizard in our room! The staff and service were way above average. They were polite and helpful. The food was good, but expensive for what it is.

Don't expect to have long sandy beaches for walking. The beach chairs cover the sand and then it's the ocean. The area is nice for mild snorkeling. Watch out for the sand fleas! I had bites on my legs (which itch like crazy) for weeks afterwards.
