My husband and I got back from a cruise to the Western Caribbean where we made a stop in Cozumel. We were in for a great surprise when we found the Mini-Sub Adventure Tour online. I had heard about it from the boards on Cruise Critic, and decided to try it. It was the BEST excursion we participated in, and that's saying a lot because we had some great excursions on this trip.
The staff were all great, patient and wanting to make sure we all had a great time. They succeeded. The units are like a motor scooter with a bubble on top. The bubble over your head is connected to the oxygen tank that sits on the front of the sub. There is nothing you put in your mouth, you just breath naturally. I'm claustrophobic so I was really concerned that I wouldn't be able to do this. It was great...I could breath and got plenty of air. The bubble is large and you don't feel contained like I thought you would. The scooters are easy to navigate and we had no problem at all getting to where we needed to go. I was so calm I actually got giddy because I loved this little adventure we were on.
We followed our guide through the water while they pointed out different fish or coral formations. until we got to an area where we were teetered. It was an awesome ride!! The guides then went around finding things to bring back to us. After a little while we would move on to a different area and here they'd go again locating wonderful specimens for us to hold and study. I got to hold a baby puffer fish, a baby sting ray and sea cucumber (I think.) My husband let go of his shrimp/granddaddy long leg kind of creature and fought with his swimsuit leg so it wouldn't get in. It sure was trying. Ha!!
Later they filled our hands with fish food and the little colorful fish swarmed us delighting us so much. We've never been that close to so many different colored fish at one time. You couldn't do anything but smile and laugh - it was so great!
Needless to say we weren't ready to come back up after 45 minutes, but very satisfied. What memories!! Everyone needs to try this at least once.
