Do not take the bad reviews you read too seriously. These are just picky people who should probably just vacation the U.S. If you like All-Inclusive Mexican resorts then you will like this one. It is a higher end resort (5-5.5 out of 6 stars) and you can't go wrong with it. Our trip to the Allegro couldn't have been better. Flying into Cozumel was great. In and out, not like Cancun. Within 1 hour we were at our resort and ready for the beach. When we arrived at the Allegro we got a ground level room. The room was fine, but we decided we wanted a 2nd level room. These are a little better. They have a very charming thatched roof, decks instead of a patio and more privacy. We had absolutely no ants as you might read about. The A/C worked good and the ceiling fan made sleeping at night very comfortable. The bed was a little on the hard side, but I didn't mind and it's actually kind of nice not to feel another person moving around. The rooms were very clean. They have a seperate shower and sink area which I think is nice. There was no refrigerator in the room which was kind of dissappointing at first but really wasn't a big deal. And there is a free safe in the room. The beach at the Allegro was a very nice one, probably one of the better ones on the island. It's long and wide with no rocks, good for swimming and snorkling. Even though I don't dive it seemed like an excellent place for it. They have a pier where boats are constantly bringing people out to dive. One little thing that we wished there were were waiters/waitresses on the beach. But it wasn't a big problem and there were still people coming by cleaning up or whatever who would offer to get you drinks. There wasn't many people trying to sell you stuff on the beach, 1-2 of the same people daily. I'm a guy so I don't buy that type of stuff, but the gal I was with does and bought several bracelets from "Pepe" who was nice and someone she could deal with. The food we thought was very good with great service. A good variety of different things each night. Breakfast was pretty much the same each day but very good. We only ate dinners at the buffet restaurant but would of liked to have tried the Mexican restaurant that takes reservations. For lunch we only at the snack bar by the pool which serves basic snack and lunch food such as hamburgers, quesadillas, chips and pico de gallo, chicken fingers and nuggets, chili poppers, etc. I thought this was perfect for something to eat while enjoying the pool and beach area. The swim-up bar was a fun place to hang out and talk to people. It was always busy but not crowded. On the other side of it is the main pool bar which was also rarely too crowded even when the spring breakers came in later in the week. They have a lot of fun drinks to try and the bar staff was very friendly and worked very hard.Five out of the seven nights we stayed at the resort. It was a fairly quiet place at night, which really wasn't all that bad after drinking all day. We saw parts of a few shows from the main bar which overlooked the show stage. The shows were nothing spectacular, just something kind of fun to watch while having a drink. Connected to the bar is the piano bar that has musicians playing short shows each night. The pool bar was a nice place to hang out later. They served the same type of snack food as they do for lunch around 10:30 and stay open late. The swim-up bar also was fun at night. They serve drinks to people in the pool until around 10:30. Fast Eddies is a sports bar which is inside with A/C and has pool tables, ping pong, foosball, and a dance floor. We went there a couple of times for something a little different but still it was probably more of a younger place to go. The other two nights we went into downtown. Cab rides cost $15-17. We did some shopping around and ate out at La choza restaurant, which I highly recommend. It was our 2nd time there. Even in the downtown things are pretty quiet. Overall everything was what we could of hoped for. There will always be some little things that you may not expect or be used to, but remember you are in a foreign country. Buck up and deal with it. Have another pina colata and enjoy this tropical paradise. It's a beautiful place you will not want to leave. Prissy pants, stay home! They don't want you and we don't want you.
