Do not take the bad reviews you read too seriously. These are just picky people who should probably just vacation the U.S. If you like All-Inclusive Mexican resorts then you will like this one. It is a higher end resort (5-5.5 out of 6 stars) and you can't go wrong with it. Our trip to the Allegro couldn't have been better. Flying into Cozumel was great. In and out, not like Cancun. Within 1 hour we were at our resort and ready for the beach. When we arrived at the Allegro we got a ground level room. The room was fine, but we decided we wanted a 2nd level room. These are a little better. They have a very charming thatched roof, decks instead of a patio and more privacy. We had absolutely no ants as you might read about. The A/C worked good and the ceiling fan made sleeping at night very comfortable. The bed was a little on the hard side, but I didn't mind and it's actually kind of nice not to feel another person moving around. The rooms were very clean. They have a seperate shower and sink area which I think is nice. There was no refrigerator in the room which was kind of dissappointing at first but really wasn't a big deal. And there is a free safe in the room. The beach at the Allegro was a very nice one, probably one of the better ones on the island. It's long and wide with no rocks, good for swimming and snorkling. Even though I don't dive it seemed like an excellent place for it. They have a pier where boats are constantly bringing people out to dive. One little thing that we wished there were were waiters/waitresses on the beach. But it wasn't a big problem and there were still people coming by cleaning up or whatever who would offer to get you drinks. There wasn't many people trying to sell you stuff on the beach, 1-2 of the same people daily. I'm a guy so I don't buy that type of stuff, but the gal I was with does and bought several bracelets from "Pepe" who was nice and someone she could deal with. The food we thought was very good with great service. A good variety of different things each night. Breakfast was pretty much the same each day but very good. We only ate dinners at the buffet restaurant but would of liked to have tried the Mexican restaurant that takes reservations. For lunch we only at the snack bar by the pool which serves basic snack and lunch food such as hamburgers, quesadillas, chips and pico de gallo, chicken fingers and nuggets, chili poppers, etc. I thought this was perfect for something to eat while enjoying the pool and beach area. The swim-up bar was a fun place to hang out and talk to people. It was always busy but not crowded. On the other side of it is the main pool bar which was also rarely too crowded even when the spring breakers came in later in the week. They have a lot of fun drinks to try and the bar staff was very friendly and worked very hard.Five out of the seven nights we stayed at the resort. It was a fairly quiet place at night, which really wasn't all that bad after drinking all day. We saw parts of a few shows from the main bar which overlooked the show stage. The shows were nothing spectacular, just something kind of fun to watch while having a drink. Connected to the bar is the piano bar that has musicians playing short shows each night. The pool bar was a nice place to hang out later. They served the same type of snack food as they do for lunch around 10:30 and stay open late. The swim-up bar also was fun at night. They serve drinks to people in the pool until around 10:30. Fast Eddies is a sports bar which is inside with A/C and has pool tables, ping pong, foosball, and a dance floor. We went there a couple of times for something a little different but still it was probably more of a younger place to go. The other two nights we went into downtown. Cab rides cost $15-17. We did some shopping around and ate out at La choza restaurant, which I highly recommend. It was our 2nd time there. Even in the downtown things are pretty quiet. Overall everything was what we could of hoped for. There will always be some little things that you may not expect or be used to, but remember you are in a foreign country. Buck up and deal with it. Have another pina colata and enjoy this tropical paradise. It's a beautiful place you will not want to leave. Prissy pants, stay home! They don't want you and we don't want you.

We had a wonderful time at the Allegro, surpassing all expectations! The food was great, new and interesting things to try each day. The grounds were well maintained and very clean. We had 2 iguanas living right outside our room. The room was quiet, and once we figured out that we needed to run the airconditioning all the time, the mustiness went away. The resort is quiet if you want quiet. If you want to be involved they had numerous activities. The snorkeling was fun, many fish very close up. We liked the Italian restaurant, very good service and good food. Overall we had a great time and can't wait to go again!

This trip was for our honeymoon. We were so excited, and from the pictures the resort looked "perfect". Just what we were looking for. We got to the airport 2 1/2 hrs ahead of time. While standing at the ticket booth, the screen changed and showed our plane had a delay. This delay turned out to be a 6 hour delay! We were only going Sunday thru Thursday. So this took half of a day away. Okay, this is unfortunate, but sometimes it happens. The airlines fed us from a good restaurant inside DIA. When we got on the plane, we discovered it was an Airbus. I am 5'2", and I was crammed into my seat. It was extremely uncomfortable. We get to Cozumel and went through customs. There were two people checking IDs from 2 planes that landed at the same time. This took awhile, but still it was fine. Of course their way of customs is having each person push a button on a mock traffic light, and if it is green you go through, if red you must be pulled into an office. Not sure what happens there! We were all funneled through a doorway where our vacation representative thrust a paper with the taxi ticket to us and said she would meet us at 10am the next day in order to schedule activities. We were hearded onto a large van. I think there were 10 of us crammed in there. I asked to make sure it was the right taxi(van), and the driver just smiled and nodded slightly. It was raining and dark when we went through what appeared like "the worst part of town". Actually, on our way back we discovered this was just what the island looked like. It does look better during the day, I will admit. We finally go the the Allegro Cozumel and thought it was pretty. The front desk clerk was helping a couple in front of us, so we waited. When we were helped, the clerk was very pleasant-yes this is the same Ricardo from a previous entry!-then when a man came up behind us Ricardo became flustered. He rushed through our instructions and room number and told us briefly about restaurants that require a reservation. Then he proceded to help the other gentleman along with trying to help us. He did not give directions to our room, simply gave us a map. We wished to call home and let our family know we made it safely. The clerk told us to come back later to set up phone service since it requires an open credit card account. He said it was too busy at the moment. There was only one person behind us! Anyway, we found our room. It was very dark at the resort. No idea the ocean was right there. We walked into the room and it smelled like urine. Not sulfur. However, there were no ants and the room never leaked. (4412) We decided to look for dinner, since by now it was about 8:30pm. Our plane was suppose to leave at 8am from DIA. We of course found the two restaurants that require reservations, and even though there were plenty of seats, we were kindly refused service. We were pretty upset by now. It was hot, muggy, we were tired, angry about the plane, and scared to death of the part of town we had just seen. We felt trapped. We went to the desk and Ricardo told us of the buffet upstairs. It turned out that they have different themes each night. This night was "Maya night". Nothing looked edible, but there was a lot of it! Many things weren't recognizible, but we tried a few things. Very bland. We went back to the room hungry, and said "it will be better the next day". Our air conditioner blew warm air, so it was hard to sleep. They did fix this the very next morning though. They were very prompt and very discreet. We were awaken somewhere around 6am by screaming. Turns out they were the local birds calling to each other. Big black birds. They sit right outside of the thin windows and call to each other. This wasn't too bad after I figured out what they were. We had told our travel agent, and reminded her numerous times, that this was our honeymoon. She said that the resort was aware, and that they gave honeymooners a surprise. Flowers, champagne, I'm not sure. We never got anything. So I asked the front desk about this, they said they had no record of this. Sorry. Okay, so what. No flowers. This was a beautiful place. We found the beach, and the water is beautiful. The temp for the day was 86. The water was slightly cool to the touch, but we became accustomed to it quickly. Beautiful silver fish with black stripes in their dorsal fin came right up to the edge of the water. Awesome. Well, my husband came down with the flu immediately, and we had to cancel all of our excursions. But we ate at the bar by the pool. The chips and guacamole were really good. We had the drinks, and they tasted like sulfur. All drinks smelled and tasted like sulfur. The employees were very nice though, especially if you converse, or try to , in Spanish. They do have a sense of humor though! You ask for "an" order of "fries" and they give you one fry on a plate and look at you with a straight face. This type of thing happened a few times throughout our stay. Don't drink the coffee at the buffet unless you like it extremely strong. I don't usually mind, but I coudn't even drink this stuff. Since my husband was sick, we either stayed in our room and watched re-runs or sat on the beach. The tvs do turn themselves on and off. Our room was nothing special. The bathroom reminded me of a very outdated, discount motel chain bathroom. I was hoping it would be nice. The water here smelled of sulfur as well. The water was nice and hot though. This place is pretty, but the food is boring. If you are stuck at this resort, it is not worth the trip. Not sure what the rest of the island is like. We only saw the streets to and from the airport. The airport actually looks quite nice when you leave. A lot nicer than what you first see when arriving in Cozumel. Of all the times our bags were searched, only two things were taken. On our second, and final search at Cozumel (while returning to the US) they took our finger nail clippers and the blade on a disposable razor. (He didn't notice the 5 other blades attached to the back of the razor case!)Of course, it was raining and the plane was held over for 2 hours on the mainland. I have never been so happy to board a plane, and have never been so happy to be home. I have to say that the airline personnel were extremely friendly, and helpful. Some of the employees at the resort were very nice as well, but some of the men seemed to have a strange sense of humor. The grounds are kept immaculate. And the room cleaning was done so quickly, you never even saw them. They always left bottles of water in our room. Very nice people. The resort itself is very boring. We thought that's what we were looking for, but it was not at all romantic. The walks along the beach were nice though. Beautiful weather during most of our trip (Feb. 16-20). To me, I think staying in Florida would have been better. Better food, better night-life, and better living quarters. And it would have been the same weather. We did get to see an actual iguana walking around. that was a surprise. But doesn't Florida have strange wildlife also?

Nice place and fun to hang out for a week at doing nothing and getting some well deserved sun. No complaints here! Did see some younsters (high school/college) drink til they pucked and staggered off like idiots. Parents have to realize that the drinking age is 18 and they have to make sure they are responsible for their children. Saw alot of couples and nice families enjoying themselves. I am a people watcher so I like to be entertained by others so I was content to be were I was at. For a last minute adventure I would be happy to recommend this nice place. A little outta the area and surrounded by jungle but that was half the fun. Rooms were adequate for sleeping and changing....nothing elegant and everything worked. T.V. is satellite and we were kept a breast of world events (son is in Suadi Arabia). Lots of Canadians, Germans, Russians, and Venesulians. Made political and economic poolside topics very interesting....we are slugs to them all all I say is....."God Bless the USA. Thanks Allegro......Penny Wismen

After reading all these reviews my wife and I had mixed feelings. After just returning from there I know first hand that this is a wondeful Resort. We were always treated professionally and politely. Everyone was helpful and smiling. Staff and management went out of their way to help every one in our large group of travellers. I was happy to see a small number of "spring breakers" there and that kept the rowdiness to a minimum. Lots of beautiful people to watch daily and the food was better than I expected ( I am a chef). With all the food and drink you care to indulge in..... this is a great spot. Located right on the reef and what fabulas sunsets!I have only 2 notations on the negitive side. 1.) avoid the rental car company in the lobby....he is a crook and in no way affiliated with the hotel. National rental car is located across the street and they were accomodating and nice. 2.) We had nesting birds in our tiki roof who awoke us each morning in their mating "screech" was annoying at first but ended up being rather tropical and romantic....says the wife. No leaky rooms (rained breifly for 2 hours on 2 accations) during nap time. Rooms were spotless but a little humidity on the floors in the am hours. Never saw a ant let alone a mesquito. Lots of local eguanas and birds grounds were un-matched in their up keep and beauty. Beaches were the best I have ever seen as was the snorkeling (world traveller here). Entertainment was ok but we sun dried ourself out during the day and enjoyed our hammocks in the evening hours and played the guitar with our new found friends.I have to say I will return and keep this place in my mind until next year. on a scale of 1-10 we would rate it a 9.5 and cannot say enough about it. Another note: Our traveling companions were sent next door to the Occedental Grand and they said it was even better (new) and very soficticated. (they are very fussy folks). Would like to try that next year.....but we will return!!!!! Adios!
