We just got back from the Allegro and we have to say that we are completely dumbfounded by all of the bad reviews. We stayed for a week in early August. I am 14 years old, I went with my brother, parents, and some friends. We had a terrific vacation and would gladly be on a plane tomorrow to go back.

Front Desk Services- My family only got one room, but our friends got 2 connecting ones. Well.....they didn’t get connecting but they did get 2 rooms right beside each other which was fine for them. My mom says the Front Desk staff were all very nice and spoke English really well.

Rooms- We stayed in a building that was halfway between the lobby and the beach, which was a pretty good location for us. The AC worked extremely well. Sometimes we had to turn it off! The beds are a little hard but we all slept fine. We were on the ground floor and couldn't hear our neighbours at all, but I’m not sure about the top rooms. People seem to complain about the noise from other rooms but, honestly, the only noise we heard was a bullfrog one night after a rainstorm and that’s not the hotel’s fault!

Grounds- The grounds are really pretty. The floor around the pool gets very hot in the peak day times so make sure to bring your sandals. My particular favorite piece of the grounds is deadwood in a tweety cage. (you'll know what I mean when you get there!)

Pools- The pools are very well kept. The swim up bar is very cool. The drinks are good. Try a pina colada or a pink panther. Those were the general favorites. The pools are really big, and the activities are very well run. Carlos runs the best water polo games.

Food- The food is fine, typical of what you would get at any all inclusive. We always found something to eat from the buffet. The breakfast buffet is the best – always an omelette section and the best French toast! Each night is a theme night so check on the tv in your room for the week and if you don’t think you’re going to like the theme book one of the restaurants instead. Make sure you get a seat in the air-conditioned part of the buffet as the middle section where the food is can get quite hot.

Beach- Best. Beach. Ever. The water is so clear. My parents even loved it! Jumping off the pier is fun too. Some of the fish would give you an icy stare though.

So there it is. It’s a nice place. You get what you pay for but much much more. If you go in the next few days, say hello to Miguel, the coolest maintenance guy ever, Carlos, and Raul. Also, say hello to Rocco, the crazy looking iguana that looks like it got in a fight. You’ll know him when you see him!

Before we travelled we had read the reviews on the Allegro and found them to be mixed. Some good and bad comments. However after staying there I am suprised that no-one had mentioned the rooms.
During the day we were hardly in our room and if we were noise then was not a big issue. The problem was at night - in fact all through the night we could hear everything (and I mean everything !!!) that other people were doing in their rooms. It was as though the walls did not exist. The rest of the holiday was great. White sand beach, good food, nice atmosphere, two pools and no problems with getting a sunbed either by the pool or on the beach. Pleasant staff especially the waiters. Best of all was the diving which was first class. Also enjoyed jumping into the hot-tub with a couple of cocktails and our new American friends while a tropical storm passed over- lovely.
Sadly would not return to this hotel unless room situation sorted out as part of my holiday is getting some sleep at night !!

we just returned yesterday and wished we had booked longer. my husband and two children loved the allegro. the staff were wonderful they work so hard to keep us happy. i cant understand how people can have a bad experience staying here. we booked two snorkeling tours, went to town and explored the other side of the island. since this was our first trip here we decided not to leave the island and found plenty to do.

the beach at the allegro is amazing. we did some snorkeling on the beach and saw two large stingrays and out further by the bouyies we saw lots of colorful fish. my kids loved the volleyball games on the beach.

the food was good. we found plenty to eat everyday. there were some items that we didnt try but in all found the food to be good. we did eat at the mexican resturant and i ordered the fish taco's they were just as good as the place on the other side of the island.

the rooms are alittle small but we were only in there to shower, dress and sleep. we slept good everynigt some reviews complained that the walls are too thin that the noise kept them from sleeping. we did not experience that at all. everynight was real peaceful and our room was near the pool.

we would definetly go back. we were treated great by all the staff. the only negative to mention is the timeshare people that want to offer you breakfast at the other hotel are way to pushy everyday we had to deal with them. they cannot take no for a answer. we had to get rude with them just because they wouldnt leave us alone.

my husband and i want to go back next year without the kids so we can learn how to scuba. snorkeling was great but would love to get closer views and explore some of the caves at the reefs.

I just returned from a 7 night stay at the Allegro. Having read the reviews, I decided to go with an open mind and see for myself what the resort had to offer. I purchased a Vacation Club membership about a year ago, and this was first trip to any of the properties.

Upon arrival, I was met by the director of club services as I disembarked from the airport shuttle ($9.50 one way). The host tagged my luggage and took me by golf cart immediately to the Members only check in desk at the other end of the resort. The staff had telephoned earlier in the week to inquire about arrival time so that my room would be ready. In many years of vacationing, this is the first resort that has done that. Nice touch. I was in my room within 15 minutes of arrival, and my luggage was delivered when I arrived.

I stayed on the top floor with a thatched roof, with a great view of the ocean both from the deck and from my window. The room did have a bit of a musty smell initially, but I always travel with a can of Fabreeze, and that took care of it immediately. As a Club member, I had a studio room with a refrigerator and minibar. The frig was stocked with beer (Modella, Pacifico, soft drinks and bottled water). There was plenty of bottled water at the wetbar as well. The minibar included liter bottles of Bicardi, Smirnoff, Jose Ceurvo, and Jim Beam.

The room was thoroughly cleaned every day, and a new towel animal was placed on the bed along with fresh flowers daily. I found the bed to quite comfortable, actually, but it did have the foam mattress pad under the sheets.

I found the food to be good with a lot of choice. The omelet station and cooked-to-order eggs are a good choice for breakfast. I usally ate lunch by the pool, except on the days I was away from the resort. The reservation restaurants were quite good.

If you want a meal outside of the resort, Albertos is a short walk down the beach and has excellent seafood. Other good restaurants/beach bars (require a vehicle or cab ride) include Coconuts, Mescalitos, and La Cabana del Pescador (Lobster House). I also enjoyed Senor Frogs, Carlos and Charlies, and Margaritaville for drinks.

The envening entertainment was OK, but I am really not big on the audience participation shows. My favorite was the Friday night movie on the beach. They provide lounge chairs, hot dogs, popcorn, nachos etc. and it is really a blast to lounge under the stars and watch a good movie. The film was Pursuit of Happiness, starring Wil Smith.

This was a very relaxing resort. I did not have any trouble sleeping, and in fact never heard anything from the rooms next to mine, and yes they were occuppied. Being near the beach, I never heard any noise from the disco or shows.

I was offered a visit to the resort next door, to fill out a member survey and to hear about the potential to upgrade from my current Platinum membership to the First Club. It was very low pressure, took only 20 minutes, and was quite pleasant. I declined the offer, but will possibly rethink in the future.

I would highly recommend this resort to those wanting a laid back vacation, but would recommend that those who complain about even the slightest imperfection, pay the money to go to one of the plusher resorts. It is true that you get what you pay for, that your vacation is largely what you make out of the circumstances, and that you are likely to be treated the way you treat the staff and others.

I spent several hours reading other peoples reviews before we booked our vacation so I felt obligated to pass on what I know.
My wife and our two children girl 11, boy 8 and I stayed from Aug 2-9, 2007. I have put together a list of things to prepare you for your stay.

Upon Check In Requests
1. Foam mattress topper, beds are very hard.
2. Premium Superior Room, so you can sleep, not so much the smell that others have complained about but more the noise from the shows and etc.
3. Key for room safe should be no charge
4. Smoke Free Room

Food
1. Try the pizza place at least once, it is not good but at least it will be different from the main buffet..
2. The Mexican and Italian restaruants were OK but you can only visit each 1 time per stay, and you must must make reservations at the business center.
3. The main buffet and lunch buffet at the pool will keep you feed but they are nothing to write home about, enjoy breakfast it is the best meal of the day, have an omlette.

Things to Do
1. We used the Hobie cats, everyday, the kayaks once, and we did not use the wind surfers.
2. We snorkeled everyday the equipment is free for 3 hours per day
3. We went horse back riding a five minute walk from the Allegro, we had a good time but the animals are in sad shape.
4. We did not swim with the dolphins $$$$$.
5. Feed the Iguanas they seam to like the buffet food. Especially the fruit.
6. Drop your towel off on a chair by 07:30 AM to get a beach chair
7. We rented a Jeep across the street for $65 / day we got the full insurance for an additional $35 /Day $103 out the door. Drive down the East side of the island and watch for the blowholes in the rocky beach.
8. Feed the fish at the beach bread or pancakes, they will swarm around you.
9. Checkout the salt water crocodiles at Punta Sur and the view from the lighthouse is great.
10.Ceramic Painting did'nt do it.
11. We went on the Fury 2 Reef snorkeling Tour and party cruise, had a great time and saw a sea turtle and countless fish.
12.Shopping downtown on late Saturdays or Sundays when not crowded with Cruise Ships, better deals also.
13. We went parasailing with Dive Palanacar and had a great time, excellent view.

Tipping Suggestions
1. Maid $2 / Day daily bottled water, fresh flowers, towel animals
2. Dinner wait staff $1-2/ per meal depending on service zero if you wait for water that never appears.
3. Bartenders $2 per day unless you are happy with well drinks. If you are drinking the good stuff or having them make frozen drinks constantly maybe $6 a day.

Service was generally excellent, but they are understaffed, also these people are just making it so be generous. If you don't believe me drive through town on the back roads.

Heads UP

1. Taxi Costs for 4 to town $19 each way
2. Time share sales people everywhere just ignore them, they are setup just outside of the main lobby. At the airport just get your luggage and plow through the gauntlet to your waiting transfer outside.
3. Dangerous riding on Scooters not recommended, in Cozumel the scooter is more of a minivan, we saw 4 people on a scooter more than once.
4. Keep doors shut and AC ON, this also means the bathroom door as the bathroom vent is a louverd window to the outside, so the bathroom will be 20-30 degrees warmer than your room.
5. Jelly fish, etc. never saw anything in the water that could harm you.
6. Calls home $6/minute by the Allegro, check your cell carrier, I had service with Verizon.
7. Check in is at 3:00 travel dressed for the pool. If you are checking in on a Weekday you will get right in at 3:00. If you checkin on a Saturday be prepared to wait, we saw people waiting until 6:30 for rooms.

Things to Bring
1. Bug Spray the hotel had little or no bugs, as they spray quit often, just like the 60s in the US they drive down the paths with a huge fogger that covers everything (run kids). However, if you go off adventuring with a Jeep, or horseback riding you'll want it.
2. Hats, its hot and sunny.
3. Large insulated cups for drinks the Allegro has small glasses.
4. Medicines
5. Extra luggage bag for things to bring home, duty free at the airport.
6. Aloe Vera, sun block and lidocaine
7.Alcohol wipes to clean the Snorkel and mask prior to use.
8. Brring a few Underwater cameras, $12 at Walmart $25 at Allegro.
9. Camera/Video camera
11. Sun screen clothing a bad burn will ruin your stay, and we saw plenty of people in pain.
12. VERY VERY VERY IMPROTANT bring EAR PLUGS or you will not be able to sleep. The shows are sooo loud. We were over 2 hundred yards away and we could hear and feel the music at the shows. Not to mention the carts used by the staff that sound like thunder coming. Kids, other guests, the activity pool. If you want to read a book in piece by the pool. Trust me bring them.
13. Lots of Cash small denominations, $6-$12 ATM charge, and +15% visa charge. We brought $100 in ones and $100 in fives just for tipping.
14. Don't change out your US dollars for Pesos, they prefer Dollars and the exchange rate is in our favor.
