Let me begin by saying that I have stayed at all different types of hotels in Yucatan. This rates at the bottom but let me explain the situation.

We stayed at the Allegro for Memorial Day Weekend. It was a bachelor party, therefore, cleanliness and leaky roofs were not a problem. The price was incredibly cheap we paid $525 each for 4 days and three nights including flight through Funjet. Therefore, we were not expecting much.

Rooms-It is true the roofs leak. The rooms are musty just like almost every hotel room in the area due to the high humidity. The bathrooms are clean but worn. The water has a sulpher smell to it which is difficult to deal with.

Drinks-The is the area that I most familiar with. The beer is tap Corona. It was a must to add limes which are plentiful at the pool bar. However, the beer at the "Pizza restaraunt" tasted the best. The lines must be newer and cleaner. All the bars do have some call liquors. (Cuervo, J&B Scotch, and Jim Beam)

Food-This was the most disappointing, but we only ate at the Pizza restaurant and the buffett. We did not care to sit down to a candle light dinner with all the couples honeymooning since this was a Bachelor Party of sorts. The food was low average. Absolutley Zero healthy alternatives.

Beach-Extremely nice and clean. Snorkeling not so great. Nobody trying to sell you silver trinkets or other items on the beach.

Dive Shop-Very professional and very safe. Great dive sites but that is a given when visiting anywhere in Cozumel.

Finally, the service was very good from the staff. But we always carried plenty of $1's and $5's to tip with. We consistently had waiters bringing drinks for us. Another thing I almost forgot...I did not encounter anyone trying to sell time shares this was first for me in the 10+ times I have traveled to Mexico.

Hope this helps.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience at this resort. The grounds were beautiful , picturesque and immaculetly kept. The staff was extremely friendly and very accomodating.

I was glad that we read the reviews before leaving and got the warning about the timeshare sales agent that represent them selves as helpful vacation specialist at the airport. Walk directly past them to the cab booth to pay for a van /car to take you to the hotel.

The resort offers many things to do and the activity staff are pros at entertaining( I highly reccomend the nighlty shows). We also enjoyed the amenities offered as a VIP member which afford you other perks, if available opt for this. The water activities are wonderful and anything you could want to do off the resort can be arranged thru the resort. I strongly suggest renting a jeep and strategically planning out a day... cabbing can get a bit expensive! You also have to go to see the virgin beaches at dusk the crashing of the waves on the rocks at sunset are absolutely breathtaking scenes!

The food was average, as were the drinks ( the daquiris suck) but both were filling plentiful and the variety of offerrings were nice.

The island is charming and quaint and access to the mainland is easy if you want to expand your trip to include excurssions to Playa del Carmen and Cancun. I would seriously suggest converting to pesos as it is the best way to get a bang for the buck. However cash is readily accepted.

If you plan on visiting the Mayan ruins know that you are in for a very hot and physically exerting journey. We went to one of the smaller ruin sites and were exhausted, but Xel Ha was a wonderful water park excursion!

The hotel rooms are modest but comfortable. There is a free open bar in the room, and they make bottle water readily available in the room. The only complaint is the mattress in the rooms are EXTREMELY HARD like Fred Flinstones Bedrock slab! However the staff, the grounds, the activities and the cute towel characters the houskeeping staff create daily make this resort one to visit..over and over and over again

P.S. if you stay in 5413 there is a huge Iguana that lives outside the door... we named him Chacho, tell him hello from us!

Grimsby Ontario Canada- Just got back from the Allegro Cozumel. Don't listen to the bad reviews. There is absolutely nothing negative I can say about this place. The staff are very hard working and very friendly. The rooms are so Polynesian Style and are extreemly clean. Waking up and sitting with a coffee on our balcony watching Pink Flamingos fly over the Thatched roofs-WOW -It took my breath away. The food was outsanding in all of the resort. The beach was gorgeous as well as the water-I had Angel Fish swimming around me close to shore in the clearest water I have ever swam in and i have been to many many Islands. I can't say enough about my trip, and yes I do like nice things. Everything form the check in to check out was superb. I would go back in a heartbeat. If you have any guestion please feel free to email me.

Let me start off by saying, your vacation is what you make of it. We stayed from May 12 - 19. I had a great time at Cozumel but would not return to this resort. We are easy going people and don't really find the need to complain, but there were definite problems with this resort.

Check in:
We arrived early and were told to come back at 3 which was no big deal. But after being up for more than 24 hours, to be told that our room was not ready at 3, whereas others that came in after us, were....kind of irritated me. But I took it all in stride and patiently waited another hour.

Rooms:
Adequate. Musty odor but that's a given. If you have a choice, pick the first floor rooms as the second floor rooms leaked when it rained. (we traveled with two other couples staying on the second floor in the same building and all of us experienced this) T.V. kept going out during our stay and there are no clock radios in the room so ask for a wake up call if you have something scheduled early in the morning. Our rooms were cleaned every day and our housekeeper left flowers and pretty little towel displays. We tipped her about $2 - $3 a day. As a side note, the gym is something to be reckoned with. Both treadmills don't work that well, the belt slides. the stationary bikes looked decent and the work out equipment was a little old, but doable.

Food
Not always good. The pizza place and breakfast was by far the best. Fresh OJ, omelet station and fruit was always available. Beware of the food at the poolside restaurant. There are FLIES all over the place and land on the food. I talked to a couple who got food poising from the tuna salad there. My husband got food poisioning while there, but we're not sure from what. They had different themed nights, so there was some variety, but not much. You have to make reservations for the Italian and Mexican joints at the business center. Most of the time, we got the run around because the computer was always down. But we were able to eat at both places.

Alcohol
There is NO TOP SHELF alcohol. Only corona beer and local brand drinks...at one point in time, smirnoff was available, but had to wait 20 minutes at a time to get it. We finally got so fed up, we went to the grocery store and bought our own liquor. That was the only time I actually enjoyed the drinks. For the non drinkers, they have self serve softdrink stations and bottled water.

Pool
The activity pool and quiet pool were both good places to hang out. Chairs were always available.

The beach is beautiful.. crystal clear water and white sand. Snorkling off the beach was ok, but nothing to really see. For scuba divers, the excursions were good and the diving prices pretty reasonable.

The staff, for the most part were friendly, although we did get a handful of rude ones as well. Our favorites had to be Luis the bartender and Santos, Jorge and Alejandro at the buffet and Miguel.

What took us by surprised was that a couple of days, they would blow pesticide around the trees surrounding us and it would eminate throughout the resort at 6:00 P.M!!! It got so bad, we had to run to our rooms.

Overall, the island was fantastic and water was blue. If you can afford the pricier hotels, I would suggest it. It is just too bad because this resort has alot of potential. I'm thankful for this vacation, but would stay elsewhere.

Accomodations: Upper level rooms have the thatch ceiling, vaulted. Lower level room do not. We liked the tropical feeling that the thatched roofs on all buildings gave. All rooms had air conditioning and fans, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards. We had two double beds/TV/bathroom. All very clean. We would recommend earplugs, as sound does travel through the walls. The grounds were beautiful and are well on there way back from the damage hurracane willmia caused years ago. There are two good sized pools. We hung out at the beach most of the time but on occasion sat at , played water pollo or swam up to the bar for a bahama mama at the beach side pool. The other pool was the quiet pool.

Food: We found the food very good for a resort that is not 5 star. The service in the restaurants was exceptional. There is a large buffet styled restaurant open for breakfast and dinner. There is an open air Mexican restaurant and an Italian restaurant that you can make reservations for. We did not use these two, as we got into the routine of meeting with our large group in the main restaurant each morning and night and enjoyed it thourghly . Lunch is provided in the open air restaurant located poolside.

Beach: Beautiful. White sand.. Lots of activities, such as beach volleyball, beach soccer, Hobie Cat sailing, kayaking, snorkelling. All of the activities are free (including equipment). There are some resident manta rays that snorkellers found exciting. Not so many colorful fish directly off this shore, however there is excellent snorkelling a short boadride away to the Columbia Reef (we recommend the Glass Bottom Boat). This
allows people to snorkell and others to share the experience of the reef thru the glass bottom boat (but it is best appreciated as a snorkeller)

Staff: All staff were excelleng. Our room was always very well made up and our cleaning lady left fabulous 'towel art' each day on our bed.The entertainment staff were very friendly and quickly learned our names or where we were from. Waiters, bus people, and bartenders(ask Lois to make you the Mexican flag shooter ,totally crazy and really good ,get a picture) were all extremely friendly and quick to serve. We tipped the staff each day because they were so good .

Evening entertainment. We went at a time when the resort was relatively empty, so that the audience was very small. The evening shows were fun and put on by local staff on some evenings and hired entertainment on others. There was a fabulous guitarist/singer who performed each night in the lounge.

Girls/ mothers of small children: if you decide to travel around the island: most toilets outside the resort did not have toilet seats, nor could toilet paper be flushed (had to be placed in a garbage pail). But the eastside is a must see .

We would most definitely return to Allegro.
