This was our 4th time to Cozumel in the last 10 years, first time at the Allegro. We do try to go other places, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, etc, but always seem to want to come back to Cozumel the most! It is a great island, MUCH safer and friendlier than any other country/island in the region, period. If you want to party and get crazy, go to Cancun or Playa. This is a place to relax, dive, etc. Never seems to be crawling with puking, partying college kids like Cancun/Playa! They did a great job cleaning up the island following the storm (Wilma) which was the worst in modern history (for Cozumel). Whenever in CZM, we get transportation for the whole week (Scooter or car). We usually go with the scooter because parking in town is easier, and you can usually get a scooter for the whole week for about $100. We go to town often, as well as spend a lot of time on the beautiful other side of the island. We know every road and attraction on the island very well by now... Save $100s and $100s in taxi fares! The hotel...

This was our third all-inclusive in Cozumel. The best yet. No, it is NOT Sandals, but for 1/4 the price it is still a steal! We easily found mid and top-shelf liquors in the bars, also Corona always on tap (self-serv or whatever you want), as well as Modelo Dark and more. Even had Grand Mariner for nightcaps! Tropical drinks come out of the blender every time, NOT a tap! Bacardi, Cuervo, etc. goes in there, NOT the cheap stuff! Sure, the rooms are somewhat small, but completely adequate. If you want to be in a big building and have to take an elevator, walk long hallways, and hike to get to your room, this is not your place. Nice 8-unit buildings with grass roofs. Very nice atmosphere. We recommend the top floor rooms as you have the cool roof and more privacy. Nice little balcony with hammock and chairs. The room had a small fridge, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, safe, etc. Never needed those things though. Excellent air conditioning! No loud, rattly window units! All (refrigerant) piped in like with a grocery store's central compressor unit. Quiet and worked better than at any resort we have stayed. Cold bottle of champagne waiting for you when you get to your room. Nice little touches by the maids (blanket animals, flowers, etc), little surprises once in a while just appear in your room while out, meat and cheese plate with wine, etc. Always plenty of towels, twice a day. Very, very clean.

The food was fine. Not a huge selection, but very adequate. Many good traditional dishes and something to please everyone. Their beef and chicken were excellent. The fish was fantastic as well. Never had even a hint of food-borne illness! If anything, it might plug you up! (sorry to sound crude, but its the truth) Don't have to worry about the food AT ALL.

The service and staff were great. Always polite and not pressuring you for tips. Tip as you see fit. $1 a day for the maid, $1 every day for your favorite bartender, etc. They do deserve it, they work very hard for an average wage of $5 a day!

The property is in good repair, especially considering the damage from the hurricane. A lot of the trees and plants are a bit immature as most were replaced. A few more years and the place will be really nice! (trees) The beach is great, the best on the island (where there are hotels). You can walk miles in either direction. Absolutely beautiful! Turquoise water, white sand! Snorkeling at the hotel is great as well. Some nice little reefs just out a 100 yards off the beach. Dive shop is top-notch and they have a nice fleet of GOOD boats. I did a few dives as usual and had a blast. Even saw some 6+ foot sharks! Another fun aspect of the property is the iguanas. There are a lot of them. They come out as soon as there is good sun. They are everywhere. Huge ones! Some as big as 3 feet long and 20 pounds! Grey, green, and even orange ones. Very cool! The one that lives under our step learned to watch for us every day to bring her cucumbers from the salad bar. She would just about eat out of our hands. Put it on the step and she would come up to you and snatch it!

I could go on and on but don't want to make this an hour-long read. If you don't pay full retail (as most people don't anyway) this is the best value on the island. Worth every penny, and then some! I hate to say it, as we would love to keep this place a secret! We would go back in a heartbeat! (as long as the price was the same) P.S. check out the Occidental Grand next door....

Every single staff member was polite, friendly and helpful. The young people that play volleyball and water polo with the guests and put on the shows were fantastic! I personally would pass on the sit down meals that require reservations, since the buffet was great and the food seemed better prepared, as well as instantly available, as opposed to up to an hour's wait. The tennis pro was very impressive after an initial brusqueness. He is well worth the money for a lesson, and more! The pitch for the time share next door was a terrible waste of almost two hours. The pressure was ridiculous and the 'prize' was a 'free' rental of a junky car. Do not bother. You do not need the stress. We were called liars, cheap, you name it. Other than that the entire four days was too short for us, and I believe the value cannot be beaten.

I liked Dive Palancar, l iked the staff at the hotel ,I liked the food too. If you are willing to shell out $3000 per person on a 1 week vacation then don't bother to stay here. You would probably be too stuck up and ruin the vacation for the rest of us that think that a great beach , great diving and good food and lots of fun are what really matters. If you don't like your room they will change it . The hotel staff is very accommidating. My wife and I had a great time. She doesn't dive but found plenty to do while I did the two morning dives. Go to town and dine at Pizza Rolandi it's just super. They are above Roberto's Black Coral shop. San Miguel has many great resturants. When we are in Cos. we like to go to town on Sunday. There are no cruze ships that day. There is always something going on in the down town square on Sunday night. When we wre there they we presenting the men and women vying for the King & Queen of Carnival. .... the quick boat ride to Panancar Reef beats 1/2 hour boat ride from town ...There is lots of advance dives offered to those that are qualified. "George " was my favorite dive master. If you need a new swim suit check out the botique next to the dive shop,. The woman who runs the shop changes the prices at a blink of an eye. iF the Manager of Dive Palancar isn't there she won't give a receipt or ring up the sale.....be careful with her. Other than that experience with her every was "Cool Running" . I hope that everyone has as good a time as we did.

My life partner & I stayed at the Allergro Jan 20 -27. The rooms were clean, small, & thin walls but sereved there purpose sleep & shower. The staff very friendly & helpful. Buffets were good always something to eat. Yeah the food may be bland or differnet but you are in Mexico not the USA. Beach & water is awesome!!! We always tipped the staff.
Hi, LifePartner here. Yes, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and are always amazed at people who complain, and what they complain about. We just keep in mind that we are in MEXICO, and we don't expect Five-star food and service for THREE-star prices.
About tipping. PLEASE remember that these individuals work for very little money, and you have a chance to make a difference in their situation. We especially look for chances to tip someone who is not working in a position where they normally would get tips. Walk up to the person mopping/sweeping the floor or doing gardening and hand them a buck or two and tell them what a great job they are doing. The amazed, grateful look is worth more than one-third of a serving of your pathetic designer coffee back home LOOK, if you can afford to be there, you can afford to do this.
As to the food, there was always plenty of edible food at all times. Was it food I would expect when I go out for a nice dinner somewhere? No, but then I am not paying anything close to that either when you add up all of the components. As to the POOL-side eatting area: they always had something on the grill (chicken, very good tasting slices of beef, pork chops, etc.) when we were there, and we found them very good.
In one of the evening shows we "out-ed" ourselves as life partners and the staff and audience was VERY receptive and friendly about it. For the rest of the week all sorts of people would come up and chat with us and tell us how fun the show was. I will note that we were very respectful and did not make an issue of our love for each other in a public way.
We would definitely stay here again, and if you keep your expectations realistic I think you will really enjoy this place.

that's about the best I can say about it. I must admit up front that we only stayed 2 nights, so maybe it would have gotten better. We came over from the Allegro Playacar for 2 nights in the middle of our 2 week stay in Playacar. Our hotel had overbooked and had a sign-up list for anyone wishing to try the Allegro Cozumel. Sounded like an adventure since they paid all transfers round trip(ferry, cabfares), so we jumped at the chance. We were planning a day trip to Coz anyway, so this was perfect. The rooms are basically identical at both resorts, so that wasn't an issue. It was mainly the staff. We felt , as did many of the other 40 or so people that came with us, that we were treated like the riff-raff from the wrong side of the tracks. No comparison to the staff at Playacar who always seemed to go out of their way to please. Front desk people claimed that they weren't aware we would be coming, even though we were standing by our front desk the evening before and heard them call with the arrangements. None of our rooms were ready , but that was OK because the raw sewage smell that overwhelmed the area they had for us tramps prevented us from staying anywhere near the rooms until necessary anyway.
The buffet was average or below, much smaller with less selection than Allegro Playacar. We asked for smoking section and were told by the arrogant matre-d that they didn't have one. Of course we found later that they really did.
We love Cozumel. We'd vacationed on the island for 5 years until Wilma and probably will come back, but not to this place.
