Where do I begin?? I first noticed the Allegro in an Air Canada Vacations book and it looked really nice. We came here onto to Trip Advisor and the reviews were all over the place - some great, some not so great..... We decided to make up our own mind and we booked our trip.

We left Saturday August 19 travelling direct to Cozumel on Air Canada. The captain advised us it was 39 degrees when we arrived. We were the only plane at the Cozumel airport when we landed :) We were off the plane, through customs, had our bags, got the "green" light and were on the mini-van within 20 minutes. Another 20 minutes we were at the Allegro. 40 minutes from plane to resort - you gotta love that.

We had asked for adjoining rooms as we were bringing our 12 yr old son and 13 yr old daughter and adjoining rooms we got. We were room 1722 (upstairs with the thatched roof!!). Our room was perfect - the air conditioning was great and having a ceiling fan was perfect for sleeping at night when you wanted the air off.

We awoke the next morning and had breakfast - it was great - made to order omlettes, french toast, pancakes, sausage, bacon, fresh fruit etc. etc. Down to the beach we went. It was AWESOME. For t hose who are into snorkelling we took our own gear and snorkelled right off the beach. To the right of the Allegro is a pier (just off the property line). We snorkelled here every day and saw TONNES of FISH including the biggest barracuda we'd ever seen. Lots of box fishes, skates etc. It was wonderful. You can snorkel right underneath the pier and that were all the fish are. To the left of the Allegro is t heir very own pier (where the dive boats are). If you wait until after 5pm the snorkelling at this pier is very good too. You just need to wait until after all the dive boats have been taken back into the ocean past the buoy line. Apart from that we saw big schools of fish right between the 2 piers.

Meals - Breakfast like I said was awesome - lunch at the beach grill was also great. My son loved the hamburgers, my daughter loved the fresh guacamole and chips and my husband ate fish every day at lunch. They had fries, hot dogs, fish, pork, chicken, rice, etc. We had dinner at Italian and it was great - chicken ceasar salad for an appetizer, spaghetti for the adults and the kids had homemade pizza. Dinner at Mexican was just as good - we had fajitas while my husband had grouper. The dinner buffet was perfectly fine. Plenty to choose from. They have a theme each night ie: oriental, mexican, italian, caribbean, BBQ, etc.

Shows - Kudos to the staff at the Allegro - they work each day from 8am - 11pm. They look after the kids club, organize games ie: water polo and beach volleyball and make a great effort to meet everyone. They are also in every show. They dance there hearts out each night and do a fabulous job. Our favorite show was Riverdance and the Michael Jackson Thriller number, Bohemian Rapsody and the Rocky Horror Picture Show tribute. Excellent work Allegro staff.

The Resort - Beautifully maintained - they are constantly working - raking the beach, mowing the lawn, manicuring the palm trees etc. etc.

The Staff - What can I say....my daughter lost an orange coral necklace down the drain in her bathroom sink. We could see it at the bottom of the drain. I went down to the lobby area and spoke with the guy behind the desk. He had a maintenance man in our room within 5 minutes. This man then took apart the sink and drain and had my daughter's coral necklace back in her hands within 10 minutes. Unbelievable staff at this resort.

Our Maid - we had Prisila and each day we'd rush back to see our towel art on the bed - we had swans, elephants, iguanas, hearts and loads of fresh hibiscus flowers too.

We had the biggest iguana living underneath our building (17 block) - the kids named his Iggy and he'd eat fresh mango from the lady right below us. Too cool...

We did the 3 reef snorkelling trip with the Manta guys on the Fury Catameran - it was fun - we saw 2 nurse sharks, sea turtles and lots of gorgeous fish - the Palancar reef was awesome.

We rented a jeep from Executive (right across the street from the resort) and toured the island - we stopped at Playa Sur for photos and Coconuts for a drink and more photographs.

If you are up for a beach walk walk the beach to the right of the Allegro. It will take you past the pier and you will see in the distance a big Palapa looking hut (its 2 storey). This is Mr. Sanchos beach club. You pass it on the drive into the Allegro from the Airport. This is free - you just pay if you want a drink or food. The kids can swim and snorkel on their beach and best of all there are about 12-15 Vendors selling all kinds of t-shirts, jewellry etc. We got a gorgeous black coral seahorse necklace for my daughter for $13.00 american. It is so unique. They also have a lady who will braid your hair if you are looking for that - a lot cheaper than at the resort.

I can not pick a real fault with this resort at all - we came for a family vacation and loved every minute. We loved playing beach volleyball with the resort staff every day. This resort caters to families - if you are looking to be wined and dined this is not for you. This is great for teens and kids - really safe too. My kids had the run of the resort and we never had any worries.

I'd just love to thank the following people:

Natalie from Montana and Gabby - you danced your heart out every night in those shows and did a fabulous job (although you do need to work on your volleyball game Nat!!) Poncho - you went out of your way to make my daughter feel special and it was much appreciated. We did look for you to say goodbye on Saturday but we couldn't find you - We wish you all the best - you are a fantastic dancer and beach volleyball player - I hope our paths will cross again.

Please do not be influenced by negative reviews - try it out yourself - you'll be glad you did.

PS - Glad to have met you UKTony - :)

we had a great time here, the food was greatand as for the a la carte we preferred the mexican, the service was brilliant. We have 3 teenagers who thoroughly enjoyed themselves and befriended other english teenagers,(however there were not many english there)american and canadian teenagers. We were there for 2 weeks and as a lot of the americans there stayed only for 3/4 days it was sad to see their friends go but new ones came and friendships started all over again. The rooms were on the small side but there were clean, towels (moulded into fantastic animals )and bedding were changed everyday and bottled water was provided. We had downstairs rooms which were not at all fusty but our neighbours above was fustyand a bit damp. We took advantage of the snorkelling equipment available at the beach free of charge for 3 hours, we also hired a catamaran For 1/2 hour and our chuldren hired a canoe - all part of the all inclusive package. We went on the dolphin tour to chankanaab. We had booked to do the swim on the mainland but at the last minute chankanaab was opened - it had been closed because of the hurricane last year. The royal dolphin swim was great but according to the literature there are more things to do on at the mainland site, but travelling to chankanaab was only 10 mins. We also went on the ECO tour where we had a great time on the bus with the wind blowing through our hair, and a great time snorkelling where we saw a starfish, puffer fish, barracuda and angel fish - brilliant. We also went quad biking where we got extremely dirty but it was great, not so great however for the cruise guests who had to return to their ship looking like they'd been down a coalmine!! We also went deep sea fishing which was great although the sea was very very choppy, say no more - we caught some tuna though. The children also enjoyed the glass bottom boat too, this goes from the beach as does the fishing. There are lots of activities around and in the pool and on the beach, but there is always somewhere to go if you don't want to be involved in the activities. The hotel was not full and so their seems a lot of space, there were not many small children about. We went to visit the grand which you can do by walking either down the beach or the road (10mins and very hot), or you go as part of the hotels timeshare, we did both but were rewarded for the latter with a free taxi there and back to the grand, a bottle of tequila and a free taxi to town and back. The sales people we encountered were nice and there was no hard sales talk. We didn't feel pressured to buy at all. The only blip on our holiday was the theft of our sons PSP from around the pool. The hotel staff did help to a certain extent but they could have been better, and they were still telling guests that the hotel was safe and there was no crime, so just beware, hopefully ours was a one off. Anway we had a great time and befriended some lovely people from texas, montana, new york, toronto, quebec and lots of other places from around the globe. In fact the we have never been on holiday to a place where the holiday makers are so friendly and the staff too. Thank you to all of you for making our holiday great

Was at Allegro while diving in Cozumel with significant other from August 7-12. Arrived early on Monday and staff found us a temporary room to change to "Mexico" beach clothes.

Allegro is a family type resort with good facilities on southern end of Cozumel island. Despite other reviews we read, we didn't notice any constant "sewer" odor, nor did we notice any significant group of smokers!

The rooms are a bit small, but the beds were firm and the staff was great in giving extra water bottles, towels, etc. We dove daily using Caribbean Divers who picked us up at the Allegro dock each day and brought us back. The Allegro has good fresh water showers and camera rinse tanks near the dock. Although the Allegro dive shop is run by others, as a hotel guest you can use any of the facilities you wish.

We thought the food was great in all of the dining areas. The only one we were unable to schedule a meal in was the Mexican venue, but the "Topaz" breakfast and dinner buffet areas had great food, good selection and a choice of open air or air conditioned table areas.

For people looking for a good value in an all-inclusive resort for Cozumel, the Allegro is the place to go. We didn't take kids, didn't do much of the night programs, nor did we use their onsite dive shop. We did, however, find a secure, comfortable base to sleep, eat and catch rays between diving the Palancar Reef.

Our dive shop in Dallas made the reservations for us with the resort set up to accomodate the dive activities. Two thumbs up to the Allegro, Caribbean Divers and the Crazy Scuba shop in Dallas that booked the trip!

1) No designated smoking areas. I felt like an outcast because
everyone smoked by the pool, at the shows, on the beach. It
was disgusting. Since I don't like to be around smoke I
couldn't go to shows or sit by the pool. I had to sit in a chair
at the very end of the beach.
2) It smelled like a sewer. Forget clean fresh air.
3) The shower in my room only had cold water until the last
day. I never felt clean while there.
4) The food on the buffet was horrible, next to inedible.
5) The service was poor. We never had enough towels. I called
the desk and ask for more bottled water. 2 hours later I called
again and finally got some water.

I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!

I am surprised when I read all the negative remarks. If people want 5 star service like the rich and famous then they should pay for it. Value for your dollar, the Allegro Cozumel was excellent. Myself, wife and 2 children aged 8 and 4 travelled from July 29 to Aug 5.

I will start my review write from the start for my fellow Canadians.

1st - Air Canada - This was our 1st flight with them. Top class service. This is the way to fly. Highly recommend them.
2nd - Arrival at Cozumel Airport - customs was OK. Only 2 agents were working. Bring passports as it speeds up the process. When you are about to leave the building you are greeted with what you believe to be the Hotel representatives. They are NOT. They are time share representatives. Keep walking until you see the actual hotel representatives that are outside.
3rd - Transportation - No complaints. I mini van takes you through city streets. About a 20 minute drive.
4th - Check In - Fast if you were 1 of the 1st mini vans to arrive.
5th - The Room - We did not like the location of our room. We asked our bell boy to help us out. For $20.00 us we got an Ocean view on the 2nd floor. Money well spent. Very important to bring AIR Fresheners. We always do. The light musty smell will go away. Clean room, no complaints.
6th - Breakfast - Pancakes, ready made omelettes, sausages, bacon, fruits, fresh cheese, cereals, juices, milk etc. Ask yourself this when you wake up each morning at home do you have this for breakfast?
7th - Lunch - we ate at the snack bar - Hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, fish, chicken, beef, nachos, cold cuts, salads. Once again lunch was decent.
8th - Dinner - Buffet was decent. Theme nights each night (Oriental, Italian, Mexican etc). 2 al a carte Italian and Mexican. Similar foods at the al a carte were at the buffet theme nights. Our family are not picky eaters. In our minds the food was eatable to decent.
9th - Drinks - 1 type of beer, Corona on draft. In Canada Corona is a premium so I loved it. If you like fruity drinks we had the following and loved them. Bahama Mama, Banana Mama, Pink Panther, Pina Colada, Strawberry Daquiri.
10 - Ocean - Lovely and clean. I went for a walk and passed the Grand Cozumel and Iberostar and am telling you that the beach at the Allegro is the nicest.
11 - Swimming Pools - 3 in total. 1 at the kids club for small children. The other 2 pools were the same in size but 1 of them had a pool bar. The only down we had was that you could not gradually walk in the pool.
12 - staff was Friendly. Service was good.
13 - Entertainment - above average we thought - The River Dance was excellent. Don't expect million dollar performances. They were entertaining.

To conclude the trip was excellent. Have an open mind when you go anywhere. If your expectations are through the roof then you will be disappointed. Relax, enjoy your settings, have a few drinks, have a bite to eat. You are on vacation.
