This was our fourth visit to the Allegro and we will always stay loyal. We made the mistake of staying somewhere else last year and we couldn't wait to come back home (Allegro). When we were stuck in the convention center last year during hurricane Emily the Allegro staff was one of the staffs that never left our sides. The changes to the Allegro since the hurricane damage are awesome! Keep in mind the Allegro is family oriented and the fun club staff is constantly trying to get everyone in involved in all the activities they have to offer. Make sure and spend as much time in the water as possible, being that is the main attraction. Cozumel is not the place to go for plush rooms and goumet food. Allegro is a great family vacation and very affordable. The is plenty of variety for the picky eaters. There is always plently of bread, ice cream, hamburgers, and french fries. There are many other thigs to eat but who doesn't like the four items I listed??!! Don't forget your bug spray!!!!!! Just like Texas,,,when the sun goes down you become fresh meat to the mesquitoes. Snorkling excursions are a must!!!! Keep in mind the evening entertainment is a little PG13 for the little ones. Mexico has a different idea of age appropriate.

Things you must take** Sunscreen, insect repellent, baby wipes, your own mask and snorkle (makes things a little easier), after sun gel or lotion, and hat.

I just got back from staying at the Allegro in cozumel on july 2nd. Our group stayed there for 3 nights. Make no mistake about it, but if you get stuck with a room in the front by the lobby your going to be smelling the sewage plant the whole time. its not that bad but its defniitely noticeable. All in all the hotel is situated on a very nice beach and the grounds are immaculate. They are still in the process of planting new palm trees and other plants after the beating the hotel took after last summers hurricane. Nonetheless the place looks wonderful. However i do have some complaints. The first one being the beer selection is not what i anticipated at all, if you dont like corona this is not the place for you to stay, in fact if you dont like draft corona then your in for a rude awakening. All the hotel had was draft corona. That wasnt that big of a deal but i have travelled to almost all the other resort destinations in mexico and have never been forced to drink only one type of beer. Moving on, the other types of mixed drinks you get are watered down to say the least. However if going there tip "Maria" she is the pool waitress and your drinks will contain more than enough alcohol. One thing that disappointed us was that there was no drink menu, so if you dont normally drink "fruity" types of drinks then you may be at a loss as far as what to get. Let me let you in on a little secret, ask for the bananna mama, its the best drink they have. It looks like pepto bismol but you wont be disappointed I promise. They begin to fill you up after a while but after being in the hot sun all day these are quite refreshing indeed.

Now for the food, the food was so so. The best meal i had was a blt (bacon lettuce tomato) poolside and i would highly recommend this to anyone going to be staying at the allegro. The hamburgers were ok too but this was all lunch food. Breakfast was by far the best meal of the day, the french toast is delicious, the omelettes are made to your specifications and the pancakes are pretty good too. Dinner was ok at best, i dont think there was one meal i had there that was really any good. I never ate at either of the restraunts that required reservations but one couple in our group did (they ate at the mexcian one) and they said it was horrible. Actually we went to town one night and ate at le mission and it was the best lobster i have ever had and the service was outstanding, i highly recommend this if anyone plans on going into cozumel for a night on the town. Oh and as far as the requirement that you need to be dressed up to eat at the restraunts is bs. I saw plenty of people in shorts and flip flops at those places, so dont stress over taking nice clothes just to wear to dinner one night. I mean guys, a nice polo and pressed shorts is fine' dont worry about taking slacks. I was told by the hotel concierge that they would not let you into these places without proper attire but that was a load of bs.

The pool was awesome and they have some fun games that go on during the day like bingo and pool volleyball, both of which we participated in and had a blast. The beach is awesome the water is so crystal clear and you can snorkel right in front of the hotel and "Maria" will come out to the water and wait on you. She is not fluent in english so it helps to know a little spanish when speaking to her.

The rooms were small, but nice, other than the sewer smell and the fact that when the people above me took a shower they're water ran into my bathtub i dont have any complaints (the beds are real firm too). The AC definitely works so dont worry about sweating down there, also tip the maids well and you will get some really cool towel characters designed for you and special sheets and towels as well and extra bottled water. I received a really cool iguana and and a bow tie both of the nights i was there.

All in all i would give the place a 7, the service is good, lots of english speaking staff, but the food and drink was not what i anticipated. The grounds were well kept and the rooms are nice and i would definitely stay there again. I hope this helps other people out there who maybe contemplating a stay there. Oh one last thing Mr sanchos beach bar is about a 600 yard walk down the beach from the allegro so if you dont like the allegro drink selections definitely go give this place a try, you wont be disappointed. Oh but take a cab as the beach sand is so soft that it wears you out walking down there.

Happy travels

We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Allegro. This was our 2nd stay. The rooms were clean and cool. Grounds well kept. Some of the trees and plant life are small after taking a beating with last summers’ hurricanes, but are recovering nicely. Bar service was always speedy. Pools always clean chairs always available. The beach is great, soft sand. Water is clear and free of seaweed. There are a lot of fish to see snorkeling right off the hotel beach. Food is ok. It's not bad, it just gets a little old after 3 days. Not a huge variety to choose. Usually there were 3 main dishes with 3 or so sides to choose from. Which is fine, but the last place I stayed Barceló Maya had about 20 main dishes to choose so that was different. I mostly enjoyed the snack type foods at the bar. Everyone is very friendly and most helpful. We will definitely go back.

We stayed at the Allegro Cozumel the first week in July. It was a fabulous experience. The staff was committed to taking care of the guests, the accomodations, food and beach were great. If you come here looking for 5 star white glove service, look elsewhere. If you come here looking for a nice time for your family or your traveling companion with a laid back atmospere and class A service, you are in the right place. The beach is scenic, the snorkeling is fantastic and don't miss Discover Scuba. It was the highlight of the trip. I can't say enough about the experience my 16 yo daughter and I had. Come down and enjoy the hospitality the y provide. Hurricane Wilma slowed them dowm a bit but not much. Go for it.

My friend and I booked this trip because of a cheap deal on Funjet ($399 for hotel/airfare/ai) for 3 nights. I went there with the expectation of it being a 3 star and I really rate it more like a 2.5. When I read these other raving reviews, I can't believe they stayed at the same place!

We arrived at 9:15am from Houston and of course they said the room would not be ready until 3. So everyone had to fish their bathing suits out of their luggage and change in the restroom off of the main lobby. Jeez was it hot in that restroom! At checkout, they inform us that we can have one dinner at one of two restaurants (Italian or Mexican) but they were booked for the next two nights, which meant Sunday night was left. But he says we can't make a reservation until we officially have our room and remember that you can only make reservations from 8:30-3:30. Ugh. In the end, we just kept forgetting so never got to eat at the restaurants. So don't go there expecting to eat at these places, they have limited seating and there's a chance you don't get to go at all like us. You'll just end up at the buffet.

We get out to the pool and claim some good chairs. The swim-up portion of the bar wasn't open yet so I went around to the other side and got some drinks. Those were good and the pool felt great. As we sat there, I realized that there were no pool floats so everyone sat on the steps on the two sides of the pool. Well that was about all you could do. Snack bar opens at noon and I had a burger (not bad). Went down the beach area next and dragged a couple of loungers into the water until the guy made us pull them back up. Oh well. Hit the buffet for dinner that night and apparently the theme was BBQ. I said to my friend, this buffet is like a step down from Golden Corral! Almost like dorm food. Saturday night's buffet theme was Asian and it was worse! On Sunday when we went to the pool, the water was about 2 feet lower than Friday. Weird! I asked the towel guy and he said they were draining the pool. Well, what happened to refilling it? It looked strange, everyone in waist high water.

Overall, the staff was friendly except the front desk staff! Others told us the same thing, it's just the front desk staff. The rooms are indeed small and you can hear through the walls. Not sure why we didn't get a hammock on our porch, but it's okay because there were mosquitoes so I didn't want to hang out there. We didn't go to a show but they were loud since our room was close to the stage. We opted to go out at night into Cozumel to hit clubs. Also want to mention- a cab ride downtown costs $15 each way and we went to town everyday. So if you plan on doing that, you might want to consider a hotel closer to town. In general, this is not a hip, happening hotel and not a hotel for singles either.

Maybe my trip was tainted because I visited the Dreams Puerto Vallarta (4 stars) in January and it was such a different experience. I realize Dreams is more expensive but that's why I say "you get what you pay for" at the Allegro. Expect a 2.5 star resort with 2 star food.
