I recently returned from my Mon-Fri stay at this resort with a good friend and I definitely recommend this resort for future vacationers.

I was a bit skeptical when I initially booked this vacation as I wasn't sure how much of an impact Wilma had on Cozumel and the surrounding areas. I must commend everyone for the work they have done, but there is certainly much work left to be done. The ride in from the airport was a little depressing to see hotels that once were thriving still haven't rebuilt and recovered. I am glad we did not end up staying at our initial choice which was closer into town.

As for the Allegro, great staff, great rooms, great drinks, great beach, good food and lots of fun and relaxation.

I read several reviews before leaving and they're pretty much all right on the money. I didn't find anything to be conflicting from the opinions of these reivews.

A MUST for all future visits is coordinating your 3 snorkel trip through the dive shop. I have a big complaint about the funjet coordinator and his recommendation for the 2 snorkel catamaran trip. We enjoyed the local trip from the dive shop WAY more. The one through the dive shop took out about 20 people vs. about 45-50, had snacks with the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and the crew was very awesome. Juan 1 and Juan 2 led the snorkeling on our trip and Juan 1 was awesome. We saw a sea turtle, lobster, star fish, stingray's and baracuda fish. He took my water camera down for me and took several pictures I would not have been able to capture on my own.

I have plans of getting certified and going back next year for diving. Juan had mentioned that they have an evening dive trip they were planning while we were there, and I would have LOVED to go on it.

Best of luck with your adventures and I hope you enjoy this resort as much as we did. I hope to post some of the pictures later once I get them developed.

Just returned from 4 nights at the Allegro via FunJet Vacations out of Houston. Had a GREAT TIME!

We arrived at approximately 10am on June 26, so our room was not ready, but the hotel checked us in, gave us our all-inclusive wrist bands so we could use the facilities, bars, etc. right away until our room was ready about 2pm.

ROOMS: Very clean. The air conditioners worked great! The only negative was the mattresss was very firm which my wife complained about. We stayed on the ground floor in building 45 which was halfway between the beach and the main building. Housekeeping was great. Each day we recieved a different towel sculpture. We tipped $2 per day. Overall not much trouble with noise.

BEACH: Plenty of beach chairs and thatch umbrellas. I would recommend scouting early in the morning for the perfect chairs and reserving with towels. Plenty of sand and the water was beautiful. All boat tours, diving trips etc. leave from the dock right there at the hotel beach. Since the hotel is on the west side of the island, the ocean sunsets are magnificent. Quite a few people each night watching. You don't get sunsets in Cancun (beach is on the east side of mainland).

ACTIVITIES: The hotel had extremely organized activities, no extra charge.. Some of the better ones for us were free scuba lessons each morning at 9am in the pool - then later a beach dive for $58. Also the free Hobe Cat sailing lesson at 11am was good. Then you could take one of their two boats out anytime at no charge. We went sailing quite at bit. Also had quite a bit of activities for the kids. Too many to name. We rented an air conditioned car for $60 (Jeeps have no a/c) from Executive Car Rental across the street and made the trip around the sound end of the island and back to downtown, stopping at all the beach bars along the way! Don't miss the Coconuts Bar on the east side. Great view! Quite a few people were renting the scooters. Also recommended visiting so of the private beaches when you have a car. We went to one about a mile south of the hotel and enjoyed it.

BARS: The pool bar was great. Fredy and Carlos took care or us. I also loved the self service Corona on-tap. No waiting. Drinks were excellent. Many call brands available. The Bahama Mama (pink frozen drink) seemed to a favorite with the ladies.

SHOWS: There were shows each night at 9pm at the outdoor arena. Great sound system. You either go to the show or hear it in your room.

GOUNDS: Very nice. Beautiful walkways, pools, etc. With the exception of the leaves on the palm trees being cut back, the hotel has completely recovered from Hurricane Wilma. Saw quite a few iguanas on the hotel grounds.

SHOPPING: The hotel had vendors come in each night so you could buy a few souveniors without having to leave the grounds. There is a small shoppe across the street, but not much there. Beware of the dogs. Downtown has quite a bit of shopping but much of the "same stuff". Go to the square instead of the strip where the cruise boats come in. Also quite a few shops on the "around the island tour". Prices are at least 1/3 of the initial price.

FOOD: This is the only other negative. Breakfast buffet was good. Lunch buffet at the pool was good. Dinner buffet not so good. But typical of all inclusive resorts. You must make reservations for the Mexican and Italian restaurants. Make them early as they fill up quick. No reservations needed for the buffets.

PEOPLE: Very freindly staff. Also, don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with the other guests. We met so many people and had many great conversations just by introducing ourselves at the bar, beach, rest. etc.

All in all, we enjoyed the Allegro. It's very close to 4 stars in my book. Much more restful and family oriented than the Oasis Cancun. FunJet did a great job! Very organized.

This summer vacation, my family and I stayed at the Occidental Allgero in Cozumel, Mexico, and we had a blast! We were there form Monday afternoon to Friday morning. Everything went very smoothly, everything was clean, and all the staff was very freindly. They had so much to do, and we never got bored. Everything was fantastic:

Rooms- Our room was nice and clean, with two full- sized beds, a hammock, clean bathrooms, a TV and loads of bottled water. (DO NOT drink from the sink; the water isn't purified!) The room was a little small but overall good.

Pools- There were two pools- a smaller, less crowded one, and a bigger, slightly more crowded one with a swim- up bar. Both were refreshing and cool, great relaxation areas.

Beach- The beach was awsome, very big with a great snorkeling area and good swimming. Be sure to bring a box of animal crackers and/or cereal to feed the fish. They surround you wanting more; it is really neat!

Food- The food was OK, it was good but it could have been better. The breakfast buffet was the best (the omlets were HEVANLY!), the Italian restaurant and the dinner buffet the worst. The lunch grill near the pool was good, but the steak was very tough. The Mexican restaurant was good, and the swim-up bar was great! ( I reccomend the Pink Panther: pina colada w/ cherry, and a Mickey Mouse: cherry Coke.)

Entertainment/Activities- The entertainment was also OK. Do not push other activities out of the way for the shows- they are not worth it. We saw a show on Monday night and didn't go back for another one the whole week. We checked out shuffleboard equipment one day, that was fun. Another day we checked out boogie boards but there were no waves, so we took them back in exchange for flipper for snorkeling, and that was terrific! (We brought our own masks.) We also went on a privet snorkeling tour, and that was th hilight of the trip. We were with another family of four, the tourguide, her assitant, and the boat captin. We went to three breathtaking sights and had SO MUCH FUN!

This trip was the experiance of a lifetime, and I would go back in a heartbeat. I reccomend this island and hotel to everyone!

We spent two great weeks at the Allegro from the 2nd to 16th June 2006 and had such a great holiday. We had read so much about the damage caused by Wilma and were worried on our transfer from the ferry port as we could see there was still lots of recovery work to be done to the island. However, when we got to the hotel everything was fine and fully repaired. Everyone was really friendly and made us feel important and welcome from the moment we checked in. The staff work so hard. Our room was very clean and the maid service was excellent, every day we returned to find a different animal made from towels on the bed. The food was great with always loads to choose from, the mexican resturant was amazing especially for a romantic evening.
The beach was great fun, so much to do, the sea was so calm it made swimming/ snorkelling easy. Our son had never snorkelled before and by the end of the holiday he was way out in the deep. Feeding the fish with bread was also a laugh as they swarmed around you when you were only up to your waist. The dive centre at the resort was also excellent, the divemasters couldn't be more helpful. The diving on the nearby reefs was top class, I saw turtles, rays, groupers, nurse sharks, barracuda and loads of other sealife including an amazing little seahorse only 4 inches long. We also went snorkelling on a catamaran trip, visited the reefs in a submarine, enjoyed a great day at Xcaret and went swimming with dolphins at Puerto Aventuras on the mainland. When we had nothing to do the pools were superb, never too crowded. Also there was the bar, to just sit and relax in with your feet up enjoying a beer or one on the many many cocktails, fantastic!!
Overall our holiday was wonderful and would recommend this hotel to anyone. We will never forget our midnight walks on the beautiful beach, paddling in the sea and gazing at the stars.

I stayed at the Allegro Cozumel from June 10-17, 2006 and I must say that the resort is exceptional. The room was well cared for, lots of bottled water, beautiful hammock on the balcony and room location was fabulous. The staff were eager to please and even though they had to work extremely hard they always had a smile on their face. The ocean was unbelievable and the pools were beautiful. I am a beach person so you always found me at the beach soaking up the sun. The food was plentiful and their was always something different to choose. The guacamole was superb and the pico de gallo too!
I definitely rate this a 4 star hotel and the guests were also a lot of fun and friendly. If you have never scuba dived but want to try this is the place! The snorkelling was unbelievable a must try.
If you venture in to town there is lots to do from shopping, dining and partying. The scenery is beautiful.
I definitely recommend this hotel to couples, singles and families too!
