Just got back form 5 days at the Allegro (May 25-30)
Okay....I travel a lot, have been all over the world and stayed many hotels....and this has to be one of the worst hotels I have ever been to. If your into the party scene, you live in a trailer or married to one of your cousins, you'll love this place. I'll start with the rooms. Had an upstairs room and because of the roof, you could hear every conversation from the room behind you. If they turn on their TV, you will not be able to sleep. Don't get an upstairs room. The rooms were clean an our housekeeper (Pricilla) did a great job, keeping us in towels, towel animals everday and bottled water.
Food....had to be the worst I have ever had. First day we got there, had a hamburger, was OK, but when I went to get the packaged mustard, I found magots crawling all over the packages, I knew we were in for a long week. Breakfast....the fruit and the packaged cereal was the best thing they had. Eggs were runny, pancakes were OK at best. Lunch, besides the magots on the condiments, chips and salsa was the highlight of the lunch buffet. Dinner, by far the worst of all of the meals. Had Fettecini-water-fredo....well that sums that up. Deserts were great, as long as you like all of your deserts made from geleton. I lived on the ice cream. We tipped most of the time when we wanted something, after meals, at the pool bar....until I went to get some ice from the inside bar one night, turned around and could hear them joking about "what, no tip". That was it from me. Front desk was rude and not very friendly. Couldn't wait for them to ask "how was your stay", but they didn't. If you like to drink and party, then you'll probably be OK with this place and will probably have a great time, but I would never recomend this the Allegro to anyone.
Now for the good things...yes there are some. The dive shop did a good job, very orginized. 5-10 min boat rides. Most of the dives were pretty good. A lot of the reefs are covered with sand and will take quite a while for them to recover. Would have liked to have dived Punta Sur before the hurricanes. Saw the usuall....turtles, lobsters, cuda's and even a couple of eagle rays. Water was warm as usuall and the vis was about 75-100 ft.
Stay away from this hotel. Spend a couple hundred bucks more and stay anywhere else.
