Just got back from a fabulous week at the Allegro 5/27-6/3. I was very impressed with the progress made in renovations since the hurricane.

The food was good, many options, the resort and rooms very clean. We really enjoyed the activities during the day in the pool. Lot's of activity. The pools are clean and very well maintained. The beach is very clean and well maintained.

The service provided in all the restaurants was very good. The bars too!

The dive shop on site (Dive Palancar) does an excellent job of accomodating trips for diving, snorkeling and fishing.

All in all we (2 couples, no kids this time) had a grand time and look forward to our next visit to the Allegro.

Have a wonderful time.

We have stayed here several times. In May,2006 we found the hotel made over after hurricane Wilma. Great roomsclean and a/c and fan, good housekeeping good variety of food and drinks. Waiters are very proffessional and formal. But most of all- the friendly staff are the same fun crew as in the past. Great shows at night and fun throuout the day. A Huge Thankyou to Johnny Angel,Renee, Carlos, Gabriella and George. They work from morning to midnight to show their guests a good time.
Excellent beach and lots to see snorkeling off the beach. Dive shop is helpful and reasonable.

It was very clean and had many activities to keep us busy. Cleanliness is a biggie for me. Good food is a biggie for my husband. My 12 yr old son's thing is sports and my 9 yr old daughter looks for a good swimming pool. Everyone had their needs met at this hotel. We had fun from sun up to sun down and we would return in a heartbeat!

In my opinion though, just keeping it real... the food needs a lot of work. But, that is MY opinion. I am a very picky eater, especially in foreign countries. My husband, on the other hand, loved it and ate plenty. I didnt starve by any means, but I did long for a "normal American meal". We stayed at El Cozumeleno last year and it was very comparable in my opinion. I may even venture to say that I like El Coz a little better, even though it is like a 3 star, I think. The Coz beach was better for snork, which is our family fav. The rooms are bigger and nicer as well. But, we are frequent visitors to Cozumel and have never stayed in a dump.. or anything close to a dump. I am always looking for the best deal and that pretty much dictates where we stay. I have never been disappointed.

No matter where you stay, no matter how good the snork is, take this advice... go to Dzul Ha. It is free and there are no crowds. It is the absolute best snork.

Everything was absolutely amazing about this place. The staff is so friendly and very helpful. It's definitely a bonus if you can speak some Spanish, but it's not necessary. Communication isn't a problem at all.

There are three choices for dinner...the nightly buffet, the Mexican restaurant, and the Italian restaurant. Make reservations for the Mexcian restaurant. I felt like I was eating high quality food--it surpassed my expectations. The ceviche is heaven on earth!!

The only drawback, depending on what you're on vacation for, is the fact that the hotel is a $15 cab ride to town. If you want a relaxing weekend, then it shouldn't be a problem for you if you're not into the partying at Carlos and Charlies, etc. Also, the shopping in Cozumel isn't that great. If you can catch a boat to Playa del Carmen...about 40 minutes long, then I recommend it.
The shopping is great and it's beautiful there.

Enjoy your vacation at Occidental Allegro...it won't be hard with such a beautiful environment!

Just got back form 5 days at the Allegro (May 25-30)
Okay....I travel a lot, have been all over the world and stayed many hotels....and this has to be one of the worst hotels I have ever been to. If your into the party scene, you live in a trailer or married to one of your cousins, you'll love this place. I'll start with the rooms. Had an upstairs room and because of the roof, you could hear every conversation from the room behind you. If they turn on their TV, you will not be able to sleep. Don't get an upstairs room. The rooms were clean an our housekeeper (Pricilla) did a great job, keeping us in towels, towel animals everday and bottled water.

Food....had to be the worst I have ever had. First day we got there, had a hamburger, was OK, but when I went to get the packaged mustard, I found magots crawling all over the packages, I knew we were in for a long week. Breakfast....the fruit and the packaged cereal was the best thing they had. Eggs were runny, pancakes were OK at best. Lunch, besides the magots on the condiments, chips and salsa was the highlight of the lunch buffet. Dinner, by far the worst of all of the meals. Had Fettecini-water-fredo....well that sums that up. Deserts were great, as long as you like all of your deserts made from geleton. I lived on the ice cream. We tipped most of the time when we wanted something, after meals, at the pool bar....until I went to get some ice from the inside bar one night, turned around and could hear them joking about "what, no tip". That was it from me. Front desk was rude and not very friendly. Couldn't wait for them to ask "how was your stay", but they didn't. If you like to drink and party, then you'll probably be OK with this place and will probably have a great time, but I would never recomend this the Allegro to anyone.

Now for the good things...yes there are some. The dive shop did a good job, very orginized. 5-10 min boat rides. Most of the dives were pretty good. A lot of the reefs are covered with sand and will take quite a while for them to recover. Would have liked to have dived Punta Sur before the hurricanes. Saw the usuall....turtles, lobsters, cuda's and even a couple of eagle rays. Water was warm as usuall and the vis was about 75-100 ft.

Stay away from this hotel. Spend a couple hundred bucks more and stay anywhere else.
