Everything was absolutely amazing about this place. The staff is so friendly and very helpful. It's definitely a bonus if you can speak some Spanish, but it's not necessary. Communication isn't a problem at all.

There are three choices for dinner...the nightly buffet, the Mexican restaurant, and the Italian restaurant. Make reservations for the Mexcian restaurant. I felt like I was eating high quality food--it surpassed my expectations. The ceviche is heaven on earth!!

The only drawback, depending on what you're on vacation for, is the fact that the hotel is a $15 cab ride to town. If you want a relaxing weekend, then it shouldn't be a problem for you if you're not into the partying at Carlos and Charlies, etc. Also, the shopping in Cozumel isn't that great. If you can catch a boat to Playa del Carmen...about 40 minutes long, then I recommend it.
The shopping is great and it's beautiful there.

Enjoy your vacation at Occidental Allegro...it won't be hard with such a beautiful environment!

Just got back form 5 days at the Allegro (May 25-30)
Okay....I travel a lot, have been all over the world and stayed many hotels....and this has to be one of the worst hotels I have ever been to. If your into the party scene, you live in a trailer or married to one of your cousins, you'll love this place. I'll start with the rooms. Had an upstairs room and because of the roof, you could hear every conversation from the room behind you. If they turn on their TV, you will not be able to sleep. Don't get an upstairs room. The rooms were clean an our housekeeper (Pricilla) did a great job, keeping us in towels, towel animals everday and bottled water.

Food....had to be the worst I have ever had. First day we got there, had a hamburger, was OK, but when I went to get the packaged mustard, I found magots crawling all over the packages, I knew we were in for a long week. Breakfast....the fruit and the packaged cereal was the best thing they had. Eggs were runny, pancakes were OK at best. Lunch, besides the magots on the condiments, chips and salsa was the highlight of the lunch buffet. Dinner, by far the worst of all of the meals. Had Fettecini-water-fredo....well that sums that up. Deserts were great, as long as you like all of your deserts made from geleton. I lived on the ice cream. We tipped most of the time when we wanted something, after meals, at the pool bar....until I went to get some ice from the inside bar one night, turned around and could hear them joking about "what, no tip". That was it from me. Front desk was rude and not very friendly. Couldn't wait for them to ask "how was your stay", but they didn't. If you like to drink and party, then you'll probably be OK with this place and will probably have a great time, but I would never recomend this the Allegro to anyone.

Now for the good things...yes there are some. The dive shop did a good job, very orginized. 5-10 min boat rides. Most of the dives were pretty good. A lot of the reefs are covered with sand and will take quite a while for them to recover. Would have liked to have dived Punta Sur before the hurricanes. Saw the usuall....turtles, lobsters, cuda's and even a couple of eagle rays. Water was warm as usuall and the vis was about 75-100 ft.

Stay away from this hotel. Spend a couple hundred bucks more and stay anywhere else.

Just returned from Allegro Cozumel - had a great trip with my family. We took our 7 yr old daughter and two teenage girls. Rooms were small, but adequate to meet needs. Beds are HARD though... but we were so tired by end of each day we fell right to sleep anyway.

BEACH - beautiful. not good for snorkeling though - too much sand and not much reef. But it is a really nice beach with a ton of palapas and never had a hard time finding a shaded space to sit. The water was every color blue imaginable and i could just sit for ever and look at it.

FOOD - Food definitely is lacking. The afternoon meal by the pool was good and the breakfast was VERY GOOD -- but the evening buffet and meals need help. Very bland. The desserts were horrible - not sure they understand how to use sugar! -- so if you are going for the food, look elsewhere. If you want a really nice resort with a great beach and great pools - this is the place for you. Great value for the money.

TOURS - we went on Atlantis submarine and it was REALLY GREAT! we went down 130 feet and saw some really great reef formations and a TON of fish -- lots of different and unique kinds. We all loved it. Would definitely recommend to anyone - yound and old. I want to learn to scuba dive now.

We also went to the mainland via ferry and went to Xcaret - it is realy beautiful and the underground cave snorkeling was fun. The beach there was absolutely gorgeous ! I'm not sure if I would pay the $$ again if I were in Cozumel to go over there - but if you are staying in Playa Del Carmen or that area it would be worth it.

Sadly, the island did take a beating from Wilma. You see the devestation everywhere - but I applaud the Mexican people b/c you can tell they are working very hard to restore the island. It is still a great vacation spot - but the damage is a little daunting. We've went to Cozumel about 3 years ago and it was a lot different then.

The Kids Club at Allegro was great for my 7 yr old. She loved it and the staff there was wonderful with her. They were very attentive and made her time fun.

The staff was very good. Always friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make sure they accomodated everything you needed.

We stayed in a ground floor unit -- and did not have any problems at all with noise.

The nighly shows were good. The Maskarade was the best that we saw! Dancing was GREAT! The one dancer from Mexico City was VERY good ! He could be on a music video ! You can tell they put a lot of work into their performances.

one more thing, Allegro is quite a ways from town and the cost for taxi ride is $17 EACH WAY -- we went into town twice and paid almost $80 total (tips included). If you want to do things in town, you may want to think of staying at a resort closer to town. If you want to stay somewhere really nice and secluded, Allegro would be a good choice.

We loved our trip. We usually try to go to a new place each year, but I'd go back to Allegro again. It was a good choice and I'm glad we went. I did a lot of research before we went and I believe we made a good choice.

I visitied the Allegro May13-20 for my honeymoon, that included 8 other friends (all mid 20's). We all thouroughly enjoyed the resort. I had an upstairs room and contrary to everyones reviews about not wanting an upstairs room - we loved it. The grass ceiling was so high and made the room feel open and airy, it rained and we got a little dripped on...and we didn't have any bugs - but friends of ours had some geckos on the wall up high - but they don't hurt anyone. Don't leave a single drop of food in your room though - the ants find it quick - but we removed the food and they were all gone in about 20 minutes and we didn't see another one for the rest of the week. The porch and hammock were to die for every night at sun down! there are also Iguanas all over the resort that will eat anything. but save some food for the poor skinny cats too! One cat would find refuge on the porch where it is safe from predators. As a group we were the party animals of the resort. We were the ones pounding the loud music by the pool and encouraging other guests to join us. We quickly had many couples join the group to join us on our adventures and party nights. (the resort didn't really like that we were fun and loud - but got a kick out of us - we were also very polite and played with all the kids - which parents liked) One day we rented scooters for 24 hours (the rental guys will make deals with you!) and we did the trip around the island. It was amazing. I highly recommend stopping at the Bob Marley bar and Coconuts bar for cheap Corona's and amazing views and picture taking opportunities. We stopped for the ruins on the road to San Miguel - I can't remember the name of them, but they were very small and infested with Iguanas - not worth the trip down the long road that's for sure. We absoulutely loved San Miguel. It is safe, at any time of the day or night and the people will help you if you get lost. Contrary to some reviews - you can bargain with the taxi drivers. We paid only $10 each way into town, which made it easy to go every day. If you want deals, go when the cruise ships are leaving. The prices litterally drop in half or more! If you want to party - head to Senor Frogs or Carlos and Charlies. Mid week to party - you would have to go in the afternoon when the cruise ships are in - but Friday nights at Senor Frogs is amazing. Be sure to hit up the events staff at the hotel for open bar or 2 for 1 drink bracelets! If Renee is there - he'll come to the bar with you! When making deals with the shops don't pay more than a 1/3 their price. As for food - the Allegro buffets had good intentions - but the food is very tiresome after a night or two. Not much taste to it. The lunch buffet at the pool is awesome though and the mexican ala carte was great too. We went into town 3 times for dinner though. I definitely reccommend the "Casa Mission" restaurant in town. it was the most amazing local mexican restaurant ever! Chicken Fajitas and strawberry daquiris blow the resort food out of the water! And they sing to you at your table. Another day we did a catamaran snorkel trip. It was fun (not really my thing though) but we ended up having a great time on the way back when they cracked open the Coronas and a bottle of tequila! The fish were cool too though - the staff on these boats are amazing - and don't forget to tip them since thats how they make their money and they really deserve it. Oh and about tipping - we didn't find it extra helpful on the resort. There was 10 of us and I tipped my maid $10 on the first day and got nothing extra - not even one single towel/flower design on my bed once! My other friends tipped $1 and got a flower design every single day and extra water and towels. So it totally just depends on your house keeper. The rest of the staff gave you good service regardless of tips at the restaurants or bars. They are all great to you no matter what, but i'm sure they appreciate what they get. Take some bread to the dock at the beach and you will see some great fish - I didn't like the swimming at the beach since half of us got stung by invisible baby jellyfish and the sand is mostly crushed up shells. But the pools were beautiful and close to the beach - and the lounge chairs are plentiful. Drinks are hard to find that taste great. I reccommend the "green" drink that we didn't know the name of, and the rum punch is great too. A little known secret during the day - is to go to the sandwich buffet for the real fruit smoothies! They keep those hidden and not everyone knew they were there! I didn't watch any of the shows...we were out most nights, but the Fast Eddie's sports bar plays good music if you can get to know enough people at the resort to go and party with. Other than that the island of Cozumel is wonderful. The Allegro was definitely better than a 3 1/2 - 4 star. I have been to a 4 1/2 star in Dominican and this was better. Everything is newly renovated after hurricane Wilma, and the only thing on the resort that shows the signs of the hurricane are the palm trees. Outside the resort it is more visible. Buildings destroyed, and no greenery - just piles of dry broken wood. But the town is renovated as well, and the people are so happy to have you there spending your tourism dollars. All in all, i would reccommend the Allegro highly. For a great family vacation or a trip with a loved one or friends - this is a great island with so much to see and do.

Well, we had a great time. I have read some of the negative reviews on the Allegro and would have to say that whoever has written them has not been to many all inclusive resorts. For the cost, this was one of the best value vacations we have ever been on. Only a few things that require improvement at this hotel: 1. Evening buffet could use some sprucing up 2. Upstairs rooms need to have some sort of sound barrier installed. Other than that, the Mexican and Italian Restaurants were great. The morning buffet and poolside lunch buffet were very good(comparable to any other all inclusive), entertainment was fun, staff very helpful and prompt, and the beach fabulous. We have been to numerous resorts that cost A GREAT DEAL MORE than the Allegro, and got pretty much the same. My wife, my son and I will return to this resort with no hesitation.
