My husband and I returned from a great vacation at the Allegro 5 days ago. We also had the Occidental Roulette but I do know that others on our tour got the Grand, more at the Grand then at the Allegro. We did take a walk down to the Grand and some people there came to our beach. We did prefer the Allegro for a few reasons. Our beach was much nicer with lot's of lounges on the beach and plenty of shade which my husband needs with him being a redhead you know fair skin. The beach at the Grand had little shade and a little beach and the same with the pool. Some people that came to ours from the Grand also said that our entertainment was a lot better along with our beach and pool area. Also at the Grand there was a long walk to the beach and pool area. I think the one advantage to the Grand would have been a better choice of restaurant's for the ala carte's. The food at our resort was good with more then enough to keep everyone happy although not gourmet food but you certainly would not have gone hungry. The Mexican and Italian ala carte restaurants were excellent, the service great and the food wonderful.
The grounds were kept very clean in fact this was probably one of the cleanest resorts that I have been to. The people were all extremely friendly and most of them understood English reasonably well. A few of the bartenders didn't really know how to make some of the drinks we asked for. The drinks may have been a little too strong, which at other resorts my complaint usually was that I wasn't really sure if any alcohol was put in it or not.
The rooms were small and the beds were probably the hardest I have ever slept on. That is probably the one thing they really need to improve on. I think sleeping on the floor would have been just as comfortable.
All in all we had a great vacation. The beach and pool and entertainment superior. The snorkeling and water activities great. The grounds incredibly clean the people very friendly, the food acceptable. The sleeping poor just due to the hardness of the bed. Ask for a lower level room much more quiet then the upper level. I would return for another vacation here because we had a great time. The price for this vacation was really good but it was quite a lot of travelling to get there. 3 1/2 hours on the plane, 45minutes to Playa del Carmen, 40 minutes on the ferry to Cozumel and 25minutes cab to the resort but all that travelling seemed to be an excursion that was included in the price of the vacation. And we did see a lot of the country side going to and coming home from the resort. I would recommend this place for couples and people with children.
