I am a very normal person who goes on one or two trips a year for diving. The diving location of the allgero is the best. They leave five different times during the day, you pick. And the sites are all within 15 minutes. Dive palancar is great, absolutely no problems. Dive a day or two then pick a dive master and you can sign up for him. The wreck was pretty cool dive.

The smell.... BARELY smelled anything, yes a little but those people that say its unberable are rediculas, dont worry.

The food... Snack bar next to pool was ok, not bad and some might even say its good, we ate there 3 times because of convienance to the pool and beach. The main restaurnt was fine plenty of stuff. These people that say its horrable are just stupid. Its all inclusive and they are feeding a hundred guests, what do you want...They do a fine job. The specialty restaurants were great...sign up for them the first day you get there. Eight oclock would be the best time.

Drinks....the tap for beer is a great idea, we drank alot of beer. The wait for a drink at the worst time was probably five minutes, but who cares your on vacation, talk to someone, meet someone...complainers go home

Rooms.. yes they are small but not bad, yes there is mold on the corners in the rooms but it is very humid it happens, yes they should paint, but no big deal...air conditioning worked fine, But if it didnt it would be a problem at night sleeping. The outside is to nice to be in your room, it doent get dark until 8 30 . Stay OUT of your ROOMs Losers. We stayed in room 4504, the best. Get a room as close to the beach as possible...ask for the choices.

Entertainment.... Was ok some nights were better than others, go to town on sunday night its a festival and eat at premas I think, its on the roof of a building,,Steak and lob 30 bucks and very good. No late night entertainment at allgro.

Pool... was alittle dirty at times, jump in swim get out, no problem, the beach is right next to the pool
If you get up by eight you can get a palapa no problem.

Tips.....coffee drinks at the piano bar between 4 and 6 are nice, but its hard to leave the beach or pool for that

There are to many kids, if you have kids its great we dont but it wasnt to bad.
THE STAFF.... they are not the friendliest and could smile more but some of them are very nice, just talk to them and move on from the others

Bottom line is that if you already booked it dont worry you will have a great time, get a room by the beach with ac that works and go get a cocktail.
If you are diving its a great location so you dont waist your day on boats. But if you havent booked it yet and arent a diver I would look around but for the price its fine.
For all the people that gave this place a bad review they dont belong in mexico and would find something wrong every were they go.....I wish I was you going instead of already been......

My husband and I found a great deal for this hotel about 3 weeks before our 10th anniversary and booked it. (We were there July 15-18.) After we booked it, we read the reviews, and we were both pretty leery, to say the least. BUT, for what we spent for our vacation, this was not a bad resort. It is NOT the Ritz, however, it is NOT as bad as some of the other reviews on here claim. We had a room in the 3000's (top floor) and only once heard our neighbors. Our room was clean (I have pictures of our room if anyone wants to see what they really look like) and the only part I would complain about is the tub...it was a little mildewy, but this is a humid climate and these rooms are in huts, not a climate controlled building, so while not the greatest, it wasn't unbearable. We checked in and the front desk staff was friendly. They weren't rude, but they weren't overyly attentive either. It was fine for us. We tipped our maid $3 a day, and she always left us extra water and towels, and even brought us fruit wrapped up for a snack.

The food left a little to be desired, but even as I am a picky eater, I still found something good to eat at every meal. The reservation restaurants (both mexican and Italian) were good, and we actually enjoyed the Mexican one more. We never had to ask to sit in the air conditioned section of the buffet, they just put us there, but I am sure you could move if you wanted to, because we saw people doing it if they didn't like their seats.

The beach is INCREDIBLE!!! We never had a problem getting a chair (getting one under a palapa requires a little earlier beach time) and snorkel gear was available every day from 8:00-4:30. We took out the kayak, and had fun on that, also. Beach towels were a little hard to come by, so be sure to get yours early. Drinks were always good, and not watered down. Sometimes we tipped and sometimes we didn't, and they were always the same, although I would recommend tipping for a little speedier service. Also, there is a self serve Corona tap that my husband and I enjoyed. :) I would recommend taking your own insulated cup for the beach, as the glasses they provide are small. The pool was clean (I am not sure what one person was saying about the pool, it was crystal clear when we were there, and PLENTY of people were using it) and the activities staff always had beach volleyball or water volleyball going on.

The servers and hotel staff were ALL very friendly...a few phrases in spanish make a huge difference. We couldn't pass a maid or waiter without them saying HOLA to us.

The only negative I had was the car rental attached to the hotel...I would DEFINITELY recommend using some place else...which we had originally planned on, and didn't do. We were charged over $100 for a rusted out heap of junk (although it did not break down, so that was good) that was definitely NOT in it's prime. We saw plenty of Avis Jeeps down there that looked much better than ours and had air conditioning.

We also went diving with Liquid Blue Divers...if anyone is looking for a dive shop, this one was perfect for us...small class (actually just my husband and I) and dive...no shore diving, this is actual ocean drift diving, and was great.

We would stay at the Allegro again for the price. This was not a luxury vacation spot, but we enjoyed it all the same...our attitude did a lot to help with that. There are always some who complain no matter what (and we did see those) but we enjoyed it. I originally wasn't going to write a review, but I think there needs to be some balance on this board, and this hotel is NOT as bad as some perceive it to be. We will go back to Cozumel again!

This was our fifth time in six years to this resort, and my have things changed! The electricity in the entire resorts went out daily, our air conditioning went out daily, the maid walks into the room without knocking and the food was atrocious! Hospital food is five star cuisine compared to this slop they serve.
Now I understand that when you go to an all-inclusive resort, you gamble with the food. But come on!!Twelve years in the restaurant business has taught me the difference between good food and garbage. The stuff they serve was the latter. The only decent food was served in the Italian restaurant. The service in Caruso's was very good.Maybe that is why they ask you to fill out a customer response card. The food everywhere else is not worth the asking price. The only things you are guaranteed not to make you sick is the fresh fruit, scrambled eggs and french fries. The mexican restaurant poolside is scary altogether. After asking to switch tables, with some hesitation from the staff, because the tablecloth was covered with dead flies and food. Our food took over an hour to get to the table and was served cold and overcooked with, yes, a lovely garnish of DEAD FLIES. Some on top of the sauce, some cooked in it!!!After delivery the waiter NEVER came back. Now you could say maybe he was busy, but there were 8 tables and 4 waiters!!
A friend of mine stayed next door at the Occidental Grand and said it was superb. For four years the Allegro has said it was going to begin renovations to better serve it customers, this was said to us from the front desk staff.
With every complaint to the desk staff they basically shrugged their shoulders and did nothing.

It wouldn't take a great investment on their part to improve this property and make it a truly great destination. Install a/c in the restaurants, hire a corporate or executive chef to redo their menus and teach the cooks, etc. It can be done but with their current attitude,I don't think anything will be done.
AVOID THIS DUMP AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!

Trip was July 12-16th

I went for the water and the beach and I was not disappointed! Crystal clear water and a wide, long beach that is swept every night. The snorkling is not great, but is entertaining and the fish will eat right out of your hands. This is the beach to be on if you are a beach person!

Yes, our room reminded me of a nice super 8, but we really did not spend time there except to shower and sleep.

Tip: If you would like to try diving go to the free diving class. It starts in the pool and ends with a shallow water dive in the ocean. You cannot do this within 24 hours of flying!

We tipped the waitress on the beach a few dollars and she brought us perfect drinks and showed up frequently.

The snack bar was not good, but every other restaurant was fine. If you have never traveled out of the US it is important to remember that you are going to another country. The food is sometimes different from what you get in the US, but that does not mean it is not good. There was always very good pasta at the pasta bar if the other entrees don't excite you and there was always toast, fruit, and cereal for breakfast. I would plan to eat out at a nice place in town one night for a break from the hotel and to get a feel for town.

Snorkle at Dzul Ha, and don't pay for a snorkle tour!!!!!!!! There is a great beach club across the street, Palmar Beach Club, with a pool and food and bathrooms. For $10 a person you can eat and snorkle and shower and lounge in the pool!!!! Just rent a car and park inside the gates behind the club or take a taxi.

We also took the dune buggy tour on the other side of the island. Driving was fun and the wonderful snorkling on the micro atoll and the great chicken lunch was worth the cost of the trip.

We did get a good deal on our trip and plan to return this winter with our children (very family friendly). Feel free to email me with questions.

What an armpit! You should go to this hotel only if you are accustomed to the smell of raw sewage! We booked a 5 day stay at the Allegro. After one night, we were ready to leave. Our travel representative "SUPPOSEDLY" tried to get us in another hotel, but all hotels in Cozumel & Cancun were booked. The swimming pool was absolutely disgusting...you couldn't even see the bottom. They closed the pool every night @ 7:00 to supposedly add chemicals even though the pool was supposed to be open until 1AM. I have a pool, and believe me they were not adding any chemicals to it. The rooms were absolutely filthy. The beds were actually concrete slabs with a box spring on top of it with a concrete headboard. The food was nasty. You couldn't even eat at the pool bar restaurant because the sewage sludge smell was so bad. I wouldn't stay here again even if it was free!
