This was one of the worst resorts we have stayed at. My family and I (fiance, mom and dad, sister and her bf) read the reviews on this site and were starting to get nervous about our upcoming trip. We read about the pool being closed, paint getting on people's swimsuits, and the poor condition of the rooms.

All of these things were very true. We called 1 week before we left and they said the pools were open. When we arrived, we asked the Funjet rep if this were still correct. He assured us everything was open. Much to our dismay, the pool was closed the entire week we were there. There were rarely times we could find lounge chairs together by the one pool that was open. Upon checking in, we did not receive the rooms we were supposed to have. After much arguing, we were given room keys and were upset to find that the rooms did not at that point have king size beds as requested. After one couple got settled the staff knocked on the door and told them they would have to move, that the room was actually someone elses. There was a lot of shifting rooms in our first 2 hours at the resort.

The hotel staff seemed very nice....too bad they didn't follow through on anything they said they would do. The funjet rep only comes to the hotel 1 time a day. He told us he would move us to another resort if we were unhappy or he would give us an excursion to stay. We talked to everyone in our group and decided not to waste any more time moving around and just go on a sunset cruise. Upon returning the rep, he said he couldn't do that. We could book through him, and then try and get compensated when we got back to the states.

If you have the chance, book a bottom floor room. The 2nd floor rooms have thatched roofs that leak and you can see the light from the TV and hear the people in the room next to you like you were all in the same room. (The walls separating rooms do not connect all the way to the ceiling.)

If you are an American, and would like to participate in the evening activities......this is not the place for you. The entertainment staff is British, and although very nice, their activities were all geared towards the British.

There were a few of cool things about the resort:
1. You can snorkel on the beach right in front of the resort
2. The dive shop/snorkeling tour was great!
3. Rent a car across the street (very inexpensive) and drive around the Island for a great day!

If you haven't already booked at this resort.....DON'T! Find some place else to stay and you'll be much happier. Or book the cheapest room possible and write it off as an adventure!

Great weather (cept for Dolly) Nice people, tasty food and lots to keep the kids busy, what could we complain about. The rooms were adequate but very clean and inc aircon and fan. A daily maid service was terrific. The pools were busy but well tended and the bars had flowing Havana Lights all day long.

We made some great friends, heres to you Al, lynda and family. Also a hi to Dig and Nina and all the other people that made our holiday a memorable one.

Althgough I agree the place has a way to go to get its 4* status its still a great little hotel, well positioned on the island with the most fantastic beach and water front.

After booking this holiday in October 2007 we read nothing but bad reviews on the internet. DON'T BELIEVE THEM!!
Our family is mum,dad and 3 children aged 13,11,9.
The rooms were clean and kept clean and tidy every day by the maid. A lovely touch was an animal made up of towels and flowers every other day left on the bed-our 9 year old daughter loved this ! The air conditioning in the room is very welcome and is best left on all day and night.
The buffet restaurant has lots of variety and is ok-not fantastic, but it is edible and at the end of the day we weren't expecting michelin star anyway !
There are 2 a la carte restaurants, 1 mexican and 1 oriental. These are both worth a visit and the food is far superior to the buffet.
Evening entertainment is very good, infact excellent. The team headed by Penny Taylor are very talented and their enthusiasm shines. They are all fantastic with the children during "kids village time" and their singing and dancing would put x-factor contestants to shame. I can't believe Oliver Frost- Danson hasn't been talent spotted ! Kimmy Wyatt is also very very good.
During the day, they do a "head to head showdown"competition which always goes down well and 'In2 action' team run water polo and beach volleyball. My only critisism would be that the staff who run the general knowledge quizzes during the day around the pool and beach, do not appear to have 1 GCSE between them - an ability to read and pronounce words when asking questions would be an advantage !
My biggest tip would be to take plenty of Mosquito repellent, bite creams and Piriton as we were bitten several times every night. You can purchase 'Citronella patches' from the holiday Rep which help slightly. I am not exaggerating when I say we each probably were bitten in total about 50 times !
The beach is fantastic, the sea beautiful and the whole island and people lovely.Pool clean and well kept and gardens, walkways etc very well maintained.Staff are very friendly.
Tipping maid and bar staff helps for better service!
We hired a jeep for 1 day (this is probably long enough) and a good idea to get out and about. A taxi into SanMiguel costs around $18 one way and it's worth a visit.
One trip we did was swimming with Dolphins and I would highly recommend this, as would the children.
Parasailing was $50 for 10-12 mins and would also recommend it.
This is the first package holiday we have ever been on. We are very well travelled around the world but have always booked our own flights, accommodation etc. First Choice were excellent and I would have no hesitation in booking with them again.

This was our 2nd trip to the Allegro or White Sands as they now call it. One of the 2 pools was bone dry. And although there were reports of this, we called the resort and the front desk claimed all pools were open(we called way in advance). The food is questionable. When you are hungry, you will eat, but the tea, coffee and soft drinks all tasted terrible. The onsite dive operators had orginizational issues and on one day refused to gather a boat for snorkelers. The place was very crowded and being down one pool made matters worse. Constant sewer smells filled the resort and rooms.

Our kids loved the new water park and slides. That was a bonus.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Our biggest complaints were the pool and the food. The closed pool was being filled as we were leaving on 8/19/2008. This being our 2nd trip to Cozumel, 2007 & 2008, I will defitnely upgrade a bit to another resort. Our complaints are small and with a few tweeks, this would be ideal for many especially families on a budget. Just being honest and as for us, we will venture elsewhere the next time in Cozumel. My wife and I have some sort of intestinal illness for 2 day now. Yuck!!!

It is not a dive resort. This is a family resort catered mostly to U.K. Citizens. Great people, everyone was friendly. We made some new friends form the U.K. that were the greatest. But I would say that the resort was 98% U.K. folks.

Child care was free if you booked with First Choice, if you did not book thru the British First Choice, it was not free. Child cost us $10.00 per child per hour with a 3 hour minimum. We were told of the free child care with First Choice, so if I am wrong, please do not be offended. My apologies. I just know how much we paid and also somewhat challenging to organize the child care times versus the dive times.

What made up for all the negatives experiences were:

1. Horseback riding in the jungle. We went 3 hours and although very sore still. It was worth it. They are right across the street from the resort.

2. Renting a jeep and going to the eastern side for sightseeing.
Easily one of the most beautiful beach views in the world. Go to Coconuts for lunch on the eastside.

Thanks

After reading some reviews we hae come to the conclusion some people complain for he sake of it and just talk out of their backside for compensation.
The place is clean, rooms cleaned daily, public toilets cleaned amost hourly, people always walking round with brooms in all areas.
Yes the food can be limited but it was fantastic and it is the only hotel we have been to in which none of us had any illness during our stay, thats how clean the place is!!!!
The staff were friendly and helpful, some bar men have problems understanding when you ask for drinks but thats nothing major. No two barmen will ever mix the same cocktail regardless of what name it has which is fun.
Our youngest loved wavelength kids club and the staff worked really hard for the kids as did the entertainment crew who worked tirelesly to keep us all entertained day and night.
The dive school on site was fantasic, one of the best we have used although our ten year old could not dive as shown when we booked. The dive school would take them but hotel policy is 12. Hassle them like crazy to take you to the wreck of the Mexican Navy Minesweeper, C-53, Palancar caves and do a night dive.
Jump in a cab and visit Carlos & Charlies for a great meal and do some shopping. Also look out for Fat Tuesdays if you want a laugh with the mad barmen.
All in all i have to say we will be considering revisiting this hotel again in the future.
