Back from our Wonderful family holiday in cozumel. It would have been perfect but it was slightly tainted by some bad reviews. I’m just so glad that we stuck with white sands, and didn’t move hotels.

The day we arrived the splash pool opened, but the activity pool closed! This was not a problem as the activities run very smoothly in the relaxation pool. The splash pool was amazing and your children will love it. (We went on it too, it’s even more fun if you use a rubber ring to go down the slides!!!)

We stayed in a standard room facing the jungle, which was wonderful as we looked over and could see flamingos flying and iguanas climbing trees. At nighttime the bushes twinkled with fireflies it was out of this world. The week after we arrived we saw a tarantula on one of the apartment walls. I don’t like spiders but I was so chuffed I managed to get a picture of one (on someone else’s wall of course). We only saw one scorpion but it was quite large.

We were really worried about the rooms as we had heard so much bad press about them, but when I saw it we were pleasantly surprised. We had two upper floor rooms back to back and the high thatched roofs made it feel really spacious. The rooms were well looked after by the maids. Fresh water was popped into the rooms everyday and we had some wonderful towel models made, which my seven year old loved. We met a great family on the second week with two young girls; they had a problem with their room but were moved straight away. We asked for a fridge when we arrived as we needed it for our daughters medication. It arrived at our room in 20mins.

We enjoyed the food, there was plenty of it and catered for all our tasted. My 7ry was very pleased to see frosties at breakfast! I still looked forward to coming home and having a roast after two weeks though!

The Entertainment staff are THE BEST!! They really made our holiday. We aren’t really ones for joining in with things like water polo and quizzes but we did this time. It was so much fun. (A huge thank you to Steve and Sav ) They work so hard and gave us the best time. The nighttime entertainment staff (E3 team) was so talented and hard working. My 7yr cried so much on the last night as she didn’t want to say goodbye). Penny, Oli, Carlos, fleur & Kim you’re all amazing!!

The kids clubs were so well run and enjoyable that my daughter wanted to go there all the time. We had to talk her into spending time with us!!

I also heard a lot of bad things about Simon (FC Rep) before I went. Well I’m sorry for anyone who feels that way but we thought he was great! Very helpful and fun to talk to NO complaints at all! Then again we weren’t horrible to him in the first place. (Pity he’s a Cardiff fan though) Well we had to beat someone in the FA cup!!

Go and swim with dolphins, its only ten minuets away and its fantastic in every way.

Three of us did the dolphin encounter, and two did the royal swim. We had some lovely photos to come away with and it was all on video. It was wonderful to watch again when we got home.

We also did the sunset cruise and snorkelled with torches it was really good fun and the sea was really warm.

Hired a car and had a good look around the island! If you turn right when you come out of the resort and follow the road round, you will see some beautiful coastline. The town has some great shops and is very cheap. The shop owners are not pushy; if you say you’re not interested they will leave you alone. The only one we found a pain was the timeshare tout’s! (Just keep walking).

Parasailing, jet skies, we done so much and had so much fun.

Thanks again to all that made our holiday so Brilliant, and if your getting ready to go to White Sands have fun! We would go back again.

Jan, Paul, Marie, Carla & Charlotte

I have been reading the reviews on trip advisor for WSHV for the past 5 weeks. After getting increasingly concerned I rang First Choice about a fortnight ago and was advised that they had no reports of any problems within this resort and if there were problems there was still time to rectify them as we weren't travelling until the 5th July. I went back into the Agent last week and expressed my concern. Apparently there was a letter on its way to me to tell me that the relaxation pool was closed and workmen were using hand held tools.

Haven't received that letter!!!!!

I was really disturbed when I saw the pictures of the closed pool and the poor repair of the site that I asked First Choice to transfer us to a different hotel. This would come at a cost of £50 per head for admin fee and additional payment if the resort we transferred to was more expensive. First Choice eventually agreed to waive the admin fee and we re-booked our holiday to Playa Coste Verde in Cuba, now travelling on the 21st July. (An additional £320) This will be our third stay at the Coste Verde having thoroughly enjoyed our previous 2 stays. Lovely staff, beautiful resort and beach, good food, good diving and lovely kids club.

I am sooooo glad that we are not going to White Sands and would suggest you change your mind it you have booked to go within the next few months.

This was a family trip of 8 people. When we go to the resort all our room reservations were wrong. One room had a broken toilet and no hot water in the morning. Another room had a broken phone. None of the problmes were ever taken care of the whole week we were there. We discovered that the resort had recently received money from a British Company. The swim up bar was closed for repair. The front desk was gift shop were run by the rudest people. Our trip representative on the resort gave us wrong excursion information, and then disapperared. Most of our family got sick. We love Cozumel, but will never go back to this resort again!

this was the second time in this resort...we went on a RCI exchange (american side), staff was great and very curteous catering to all our needs.

the great: absolute best scuba staff on the island....very safe...
the beach absolutely amazing...it is not always cloudy it depends on the undercurrents...we had 5 fabulous days, great great water.....!!!....don't forget to tip the staff they work very hard ...

the ok: the a la carte restaurants were good...lunch leaves as always to be desired...tip well first days...you will get personalized service for the rest of the week..

the bad: went there 2 weeks after it opened...never used the pool except once...i was already wondering where my bikini got the yellow stains from..now i know after reading all the other reviews.
we had some bugs too..but it stopped after we stopped taking food to the room...somehow they can smell it even in the fridge..

the ugly: i love the brits .....in england.....i go to mexico i want mexican staff.....all staff are british now since the take-over...all games are catered to british people...the shows are downright ridiculous......even the british couple we connected with was downright disappointed at the resort being so british....
yup the water kiddi park...what were they thinking...a huge plastic pirate ship at the entrance...my oh my....the grounds used to be beautiful.....

to some it up .....since we do not have kids we will never go back to this resort ....we will upgrade to the grand next door that doesn't look like an adventure kiddies park ....i will go back to occidental grand for one reason only...the absolutly fabulous scuba staff....and amazing ocean to scuba in.....

Sorry folks but please save your money or book soemwhere else.
The swimming pool was closed down whilst I was there, it was a total disgrace, lumps of concrete peeling off, absolutely filthy water, green grime all round the edge. If this was a council run pool it would have been condemed. Bar dirty, tiles cracking, drinks served in chipped perspex cups. beach bar closed after electrical problems.

Whilst I was there more people were booked out than stayed, vertysurprised to see First Choice continue to send clients when they must be fully aware of the problems as 95% of guests were filling in complaint forms before they left.

In my opinion to help enjoy your holiday look elsewhere.
