Whats to say? All the nay sayers are just that. Picky complainers. Hotel Management could be a little better however, evryone was terrific except Ricardo @ reservations (a total ****). But, $5 will get you into any restaurant you want. Food was just ok but could ALWAYS find something good. THE best guak and pico anywhere. Rooms were cleaned daily and early,NO BUGS, ANTS or any varmints for that matter. A couple of bucks will get you a fridge in your room that will always be well stocked everyday w/bottled water. Great water pressure and all plumbing worked fine, as well as the A.C.- Can't say enough about the Staff - Freddy at the bar - Maricarma at the pool, Edwardo & Mauricio in the restaraunts were all excellent. Grounds are well kept and beautiful. Now, what we came for, the scuba diving. The Best Diving yet. Pablo @ Dive Palancar was awesome. If not for him my wife would never have gotten her certification and I would have been diving alone. With Pablos patience she now wants to know when we're coming back because she fell in love with it. We logged almost 5 hours in the water in the 1 week we were there. 8 different reef dives, all totally different and awesome. Lots of 'Cudas,Huge Lobsters, Rays, Turtles, big Grouper and large Snappers over 200lbs, 1000's of fish, totally cool. We hired Andres' the videogragher and for $120 you go home with 30 mins. of great underwater footage of you on your 2 dives. The Allegro for the money is the best deal going. 2 people 1 week all you can eat and DRINK! under $1000 thats $just about $80 a day per person to eat, drink, sleep and be merry AND, all beach activities are included. Wanna learn to scuba? its INCLUDED! Sailing, Kayaking, Snorkeling, included. Want to complain? Go somewhere else where its warranted. For the money you spend here it would have been adequate if they gave you a tent and a shovel. To make this long report shorter, needless to say we will be back because the diving is that good and the Hotel is not that bad and by this time next year all the renovations should be complete. Rent a jeep it cost us $32 a day or $200 for the week.Go into town its well worth it. Park and walk around , everyone has deal for ya. The drive around the Island is wonderful with a certain peace to it. Stop at the Rasta bar on the south tip for a cold one and tell Jose' that Richy sent you. Hell get a kick out of that. And, dont leave there without trying the shrimp ceviche'. I hope this report may influence any procrastinators to try the Allegro. You will be glad.Rich C

The Resort--Beautiful landscaping. Palm trees everywhere, and cute hedge animals. Tons of greenery. The pools were cleaned every night, so they were always sparkling. One of the pools (the one w/ out the swim up bar) rarely had more that 1-2 people in it, so it was great if you wanted to relax. The pool w/ the bar was always hopping w/ people playing volleyball, water polo, etc. The beach area was awesome, extremely clean, and the water was as clear as a pool. We snorkeled everyday (the equipment was free for 3 hours at a time, but after you returned it, you could turn around and check it right back out...), and there was a lot to see. I will give one piece of advice, WATCH OUT FOR BARRACUDAS! They were about 5 that we saw while swimming, and I don't really like to swim w/ things that could potentially hurt me, so wheneve I saw one I got out. They were always very close to the shore.
We saw sting rays, crabs, and what looked like angel fish. Those are the most common, and you can feed them, and they will just swarm around you and eat.

The Rooms--I agree w/ another review that I read...you people that are complaining about the rooms, you are in Cozumel...why are you staying in your rooms besides to change and sleep??? We had NO problems w/ our rooms. We had a bottom floor room, and another couple we were w/ had the one right above us. It rained 3 times, and they never complained about it leaking in their room. The rooms were clean, the air conditioner was cold, water pressure was great. The only problem I can think of is the toilet clogging. That only happened once, and someone was there to fix it w/ in 5 minutes. The beds were firm (a little too firm for my taste), but they were fine. The maid always left plenty of towels and bottled water.

The Staff/Entertainment--I was impressed w/ the nightly shows that were put on. They were very entertaining, and funny (especially if you had a few free drinks in your system). The show always began at 9:00 PM.
After the couple nights when somebody in our group had to get up on stage and do embarrassing things, we started coming around 9:15, AFTER they already had their picks from the audience. It's a lot funnier when you're not the one up there. The Staff started their day around 11 AM, and would be down at the pool participating in all the different activities (pool volleyball, water polo, beach volleyball, beer drinking contests, free snorkeling lessons, free scuba diving lessons, etc.). They were always pumping the guests up and getting them involved in activities. Very friendly group of people.

The Food--All in all, pretty good. Not the best, but a large selection of anything you could want. I did try the cottage cheese one morning for breakfast, and I think it was spoiled, so avoid that. At lunch you could either eat at the buffet, or down at the pool area, they had a lot of snack-type foods (Hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, fries, cheese sticks, chicken nuggets, etc.). For dinner you could eat at the buffet, or make reservations for one of the two restaurants on the grounds.
(You can only make reservations for each place only one time during your stay, but it's worth it.)

I would go back to the Allegro Resort in a heartbeat. I believe that the best time to go is in mid to late September. It rained a few times while we were there, but it was gone in 30 minutes and the sun came right back out. There was hardly anybody there (less than 250 people), so it was quiet, and low-key. You got to meet a lot more people because most of them flew in w/ you, and most of them left w/ you as well. I highly recommend this resort to anybody. I can't wait to return!!!

We are a family of 6 and have been on many vacas to scuba diving areas. When my husband chose Cozumel, and particularly the Occidental Allegro, for our July, 2003 trip I searched out internet reviews and was confused and worried about what I read.... I am pleased to say my worries were all for nothing!...I have never before contributed a review, but I am compelled to submit this time because our experience was so unlike what I was lead to expect by the sour reviews on this site.this place was beautiful!... the staff was polite, accomodating, and efficient ~ the rooms were comfortable and clean ~ the beach was gorgeous ~ and the food was aplenty...any minor problems we had were attended to immediately (we wanted to have adjoining rooms, and one shower didn't work well)the beach was fantastic!... clear water (fun fish to feed), beautiful clean sand, plenty of space, and great scuba and snorkeling opportunities available right there with Dive Palancar. The 2 pools were cleaned nightly, and the many planned activities were kept to one pool, so the other pool allowed for quieter, calmer pool fun.The food in the buffet dining room was varied every day and was very, very good. We ate once at a restaurant that requires reservations; they did serve a nice dinner, but the time it took for this multicourse meal wasn't how we wanted to spend our vaca - the buffet was all we needed. The food at the pool was good, tho it did get a bit tiring after several days.the bar service was great, too = polite staff and a large variety of specialty drinks for adults, and kids. They always had chilled water available, tooregarding "wildlife" = we saw no rats, saw no roaches... only once did we have ants on our patio - and that's because my son left a piece of food on the floor... to our delight we saw anoles, frogs, and several iguanas!... and the song of the birds was awesome!... the sealife while diving, snorkeling, and beaching was awesome, too.... of the 6 of us, 2 had a problem (bigtime itchies) with the sand fleas - but this was simply avoided for the rest of the time by not going in the beach sand after sunsetthe nightly shows (we didn't ever stay to watch) were loud throughout the resort area, but once it was over, the sounds of nature were once again the music of the night. FYI, the rooms with the higher beginning numbers are farther from the dining room and entertainment, but closer to the beach (buildings 57,58,47,and 48 being beachfront)we did smell the sewer odors a couple times, but only in the late afternoon, for a relatively short time, and it wasn't everywhere (mainly by the quiet pool) there were glasses always available at the bar, but I was glad to have brought our thermal mugs because they kept the drinks cooler longer. And I cannot say enough about how satisfied we were with the food ~ certainly, it is not gourmet, it is buffet style, and all-inclusive.... people are always praising the food served on cruises, well, we were recently on a cruise, and we all agree that the food at the Occidental Allegro Cozumel was much better!I've reread the big complaints written here that had me so worried.... I can see that those people were just looking for something to complain about (why???!!! you're on vacation!).... what they complain about was there, but not to any degree that was worthy of complaint or even bother....ie, there were timeshare salesmen, but they never approached us with anything more than an uplifted head to see if we were interested...we'd recommend this resort highly to anyone who wants to have a good time!... of the many places we've been to, it is at the top of our list of favorites!
