I was at first hesitant about booking at the Allegro by some of the reviews I had read on the internet but after going I have to ask....where did you people stay? It was great. I am going to write this review in all fairness so other will have a clear and true idea of what this location offers. Let's start with the rooms.....they were nice (bungalow style) with seperate air conditioning units in each room. The rooms were very clean and tidy and we never had a problem getting anything we needed. We always had fresh towels, wash cloths, soap, shampoo, and bottled water. The only thing to know is if you plan on sleeping late put your do not disturb sign up because the cleaning staff starts early. The only time we spent in our room was to shower and sleep so there is not much I can write on here.....if you complain about your room you were probably in it too much...you are in Cozumel....what are you doing in your room. The food was very good.....breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ate at the main resteraunt every day for breakfast and dinner and always found something to eat. My wife and I are both picky eaters but we never went hungry. If you like fried foods hit the buffet by the pool at lunch...they have hamburgers, hotdogs, french fries, etc.....very good. The drinks were great and there were always glasses available. The grounds were very clean, trimmed, and well kept. It was a very pretty resort. We looked at several others after arriving and talked to many people from other resorts and it sounded like the Allegro is the place to stay. The beach is fantastic with plenty of room and the pools are great. The only tip I can give here is if you want a cabana to sit under get up early and reserve them with your towels. The thing I was most impressed with was the staff. They were all great and they all spoke English well. They were very attentive and always willing to help. The Activity staff was "Great and First Class"......they were always doing something with the guests and they were excellent with children. They put on shows everynight that werer great! I can not say enough about the staff.....TOP RATE!Here are a few tips.......if you want to go shopping depending on what you are looking for do not go to the Cozumel Market Place. It stinks......the shops with not barter because they receive plenty of business from the cruise ships during the day. The shop owners are actually rude. The best deals we found were when we were leaving. The airport has several nice shops with almost any souvenier you could want at the same or lower prices than in town. We did rent a car to go into town.....here are the prices....$35 for a mopad......$45 for a VW Bug (old one)......$55 for a Geo Tracker.......$65 for a Jeep.......but you will realize that was a waste of money to get into town once you go to the shops. Save your money and simply buy your souveniers at the Airport unless you are looking for something specific.Make sure while you are there go by the dive shop and book a dive tour with Dive Palancar. My wife and I went snorkling and it was well worth it. It cost $45 each for a 4 hour snorkling tour. We got some great pictures and had a wonderful time. It was probably the highlight of the trip. Food and drinks were supplied on the tour and the people running it were knowlegeable and very nice.

This is our second year in a row to spend at the Allegro Cozumel - my husband and I just got back on 8/6. The beach is fantastic and that is why we picked this resort once again. The rooms are not that great - but, hey it is not America people! However, our room was always clean - never had an ant or other bug problem though. . .the grounds are beautiful and very well maintained - I was always able to find something on the buffet that I liked and had no problems getting a reservation at the 2 restaurants. We have learned that tipping a few dollars here and there will get your drinks brought to you on the beach. We left a $5 tip everyday for the maid and were left with plenty of bottled waters, towels, and even fresh cut flowers. I would say that if you are looking for fine dining, and a beautiful hotel room - don't stay here. However, if you are looking for a gorgeous beach, warm and friendly staff and atmosphere - this is for you. I did hear from a fellow guest that the Allegro Cozumel will be undergoing renovations in September - so you may want to check this out before you go . . . .

We went to this resort July 25, 2003 for seven nights. The Allegro was not any where near a five star hotel. The reviews about the ants in the rooms, all true, we complained the first night about the ants and other bugs in the room. After about three hours later, they came to our room and handed us a can of bug spray!!! The smell people complained about was also very evident. The stench from the sewer was so overwhelming in parts of the grounds we had to cover our noses! Totally gross!!! The food was ok, not great, we travel quite a lot and it was not anywhere like the Allegro Caribbean in Cancun. The only thing we really did enjoy was the beach area, it was very nice. Service was the worst we've ever had anywhere. The other guest were much more pleasant than any of the workers or staff. If you are taking a family, beware the rooms are way too small for a family of four, unless you don't mind crawling around everyone else. The space between the beds is only 8 inches, if that. Wish I could say more good, but it just wasn't there, we won't return to the Allegro Cozumel.

We arrived at the Occidental Allegro on 7-28. We were greeted and did have to wait for a room. The grounds were constantly being kept. The room was ok, but we were there to scube, snorkel, etc....We just needed a place to change and sleep. Air conditioner worked great. Had a problem with a bathroom tile, was fixed within 1 hr. phone # didn't work, was replaced immediately. Food was always good. Pools very clean. Our 13 yr old and her friend found plenty to do. Never saw a rat, roach, etc... We did smell the sewer at night time. We had a great time. They are starting to refubish the area. Tips were always welcome and did make a difference. We will go back. The front desk people were always willing to help and answer questions. Now the jeep we rented was another story!! But contributed to fun stories to tell in the future. Don't do the lighthouse tour. Climbing the stairs will do you in.

Went to Cozumel on 07/20-07/24/2003. It's a beautiful location but not
the services. A lot of favoritism among the staff. Do not expect to ask
or beg for something like :
1. no peso coin exchange avail. for internet usage.
2. took 48hrs for shower to be fixed.
3. after promising 2 beds the next day....no avail.
4. buffet staffers-----need tips or else suffer in non
air conditioning section.....terrible. you are eating with your sweat dripping...
5. everything is fully booked.....no seats avail but you can see the
sections are empty.

The staffers at front desk need to be more cheerful in greeting
visitors. We all come for vacation.
