Ill start with the positive. We stayed from Dec 16-23. We were in 3 rooms w/9 people. All three rooms were cleaned very well every day. The housekeeping staff was very friendly and paid great attention to detail. The front desk staff & management were helpful & friendly every day. The grounds were very well kept also. The beach was gorgeous and we had great weather! Food was pretty good. It's typical for Mexcico all inclusive. The security was exceptional. They were always around and very aware of who was there.

Ok, so now for the negative-The beds!!!!! I wasnt expecting much but this was probably the hardest, most uncomfortable sleep (or attempt) Ive ever had in my life! You would be better sleeping in the hammock honestly. Both pools are in serious need of repair and the hottub was never more than luke-warm. The wait staff at the restaurants and bars were pathetic. We tipped the first couple days & the service got worse believe it or not! We sat ourselves, got our own drinks & bussed our own tables daily. The Kids Club seemed like it didnt even exist & the night shows could have been better.

Lastly, we decided to take our chances at the 90 minute time-share thing. We were promised a free rental car & $50 in Allegro money. We got a small discount on a car (then they overcharged our credit card) and "Alejandro" with the time share desk took our cash to cash it in for us while we were out.....then tried to pocket the money & give us Tequila or a blanket! We had to go to hotel management to get it sorted out. Tip on the timeshare thing-if you go on their tour act overly interested & obnoxious and its a very quick tour :).
TIPS:
Go to the east side of the island and explore. It was gorgeous! Eat at Playa Bonita-it was the best food we had all week! It was great service, right on the beach, and less crowded than Coconuts. Also be very weary in town. This was our 3rd trip to Cozumel and I could not believe how dishonest and down right crooked the people were. Everything was overpriced and the exchange rate is always in their favor-not yours. Not one time at any shops were we given an honest price for anything. As soon as you go to pay the price changes significantly (by $10 or more) **A local friend of ours told us that the price a taxi driver gives you always includes tip**

We stayed at the Allegro from Dec 8th- Dec 15th. I read all the reviews before I booked here, but we were disappointed with almost everything there. The food was terrible! It was mostly just bland. Their desserts were awful. Corn in the frosting of cake! What? The rooms need to be knocked down & rebuilt. Our room was actually 2 rooms. So we had 2 bathrooms, but they were so outdated it was terrible. The only redeeming things about the resort was the beach & the staff.
We had bed bug bites everywhere. The only thing we saw them doing while we were there was re-doing the railing on the balconies. That is not going to help! Just walk down to the Iberostar Hotel & check out there buffets & grounds. That's how the all-inclusive should be done. They had it all. We stayed there the last night & it was incredible.
Don't book here, you will be as disappointed as us.

Rooms are clean. You do hear your neighbors. Drinks are weak. People are nice. Food is OK. Don't do the buffet, make a reservation to eat at the sit-down restaurant. (inclusive) Definitely rent a car so you can drive around the island.

Visited the allegro Cozumel Nov 28th -Dec 5th, 2007. It was great. There were 22 of us visiting to celebrate a 50th birthday. We all had a wonderful time. The beach was great. Never had any problem with service. Everyone from the cleaning staff, bartenders and waiters and front desk personnel were freindly and very attentive. The rooms are not that big for more than 2 people but who spends much time in the room? Always something to do if you wanted. They were able to accomodate our large group to seat us together for dinners frequently. Diving, snorkeling, parasailing, fishing, jeeping, sunset cruise, massage, all readily available thru this resort.
Except for a few bug bites in the early evening (next time I will bring bug repellant just in case) the resort did a great job. Of course it did help that we had perfect weather the entire week we were there. Would love to visit there again in the future

Hurry, the Allegro closes January 10th for 3 months and is rumored to be upgraded to 'Spa' level. I am a diver. Dive Palancar is an excellent dive service: group size-4-8, excellent equipment, super guides, very safe, dive times 45-55 minutes. The reef isn't Indonesian but has wonderful structure and fish variety. The room was not large but bigger than Motel 6 and very clean. The sheets were changed daily which doesn't happen in many motels you stay at more than one day. The air conditioner worke well. Beds were firm but no firmer than the futon I slept on the night before the trip at my son's house. I tore the bed down looking for bedbugs-seen on a report here. Nada.
The food was plentiful and food safety observed. I am a quantity eater so I was happy. Quality was above average but not to the level you would travel through traffic to order. Drinks were not strong but I simply ordered two, The staff was great and remembered our names from day one. I learned to sail a bit and only have one gripe: Windsurfing lessons were at 3:00(dive time) and they would not let me have a board. So I guess I will just have to go back . GO GO GO Happy to answer any questions.
