Ill start with the positive. We stayed from Dec 16-23. We were in 3 rooms w/9 people. All three rooms were cleaned very well every day. The housekeeping staff was very friendly and paid great attention to detail. The front desk staff & management were helpful & friendly every day. The grounds were very well kept also. The beach was gorgeous and we had great weather! Food was pretty good. It's typical for Mexcico all inclusive. The security was exceptional. They were always around and very aware of who was there.
Ok, so now for the negative-The beds!!!!! I wasnt expecting much but this was probably the hardest, most uncomfortable sleep (or attempt) Ive ever had in my life! You would be better sleeping in the hammock honestly. Both pools are in serious need of repair and the hottub was never more than luke-warm. The wait staff at the restaurants and bars were pathetic. We tipped the first couple days & the service got worse believe it or not! We sat ourselves, got our own drinks & bussed our own tables daily. The Kids Club seemed like it didnt even exist & the night shows could have been better.
Lastly, we decided to take our chances at the 90 minute time-share thing. We were promised a free rental car & $50 in Allegro money. We got a small discount on a car (then they overcharged our credit card) and "Alejandro" with the time share desk took our cash to cash it in for us while we were out.....then tried to pocket the money & give us Tequila or a blanket! We had to go to hotel management to get it sorted out. Tip on the timeshare thing-if you go on their tour act overly interested & obnoxious and its a very quick tour :).
TIPS:
Go to the east side of the island and explore. It was gorgeous! Eat at Playa Bonita-it was the best food we had all week! It was great service, right on the beach, and less crowded than Coconuts. Also be very weary in town. This was our 3rd trip to Cozumel and I could not believe how dishonest and down right crooked the people were. Everything was overpriced and the exchange rate is always in their favor-not yours. Not one time at any shops were we given an honest price for anything. As soon as you go to pay the price changes significantly (by $10 or more) **A local friend of ours told us that the price a taxi driver gives you always includes tip**
