We just got back on the 24th from a week long stay at the Occidental Allegro resort in Cozumel. I feel that we got our money's worth. If you go there expecting 3-star service, which is what it's rated as, anything else will be a plus! If you check the prices of other resorts in the Carribean, you'll see that this is not any where near the most expensive, so don't expect to be pampered too much, you didn't pay for it! I didn't see any rats, as I just read from some other reviews (luckily! - that would have freaked me out!) The food was adequate, not gormet. My husband loved the beef dishes. There was always a pasta station, lots of steamed veggies, a fruit and salad bar, and enough variation, with a few mexican dishes. We found that if we got to dinner early, before the staff was completely worn out, our service was much better. But, we really didn't go there to eat. Eating was just a requirement for energy to do what we really wanted to do, and that was to spend time at their most breath-taking beach and to scuba dive. Their on-site dive center was fabulous! We're open water certified, but one person in our group wasn't certified, so he took the resort course. He enjoyed the experience a great deal - I think he's still smiling! HOWEVER, if you're a resort diver, you must speak with the dive instructor about not taking you below your 40' maximum depth! This one instructor took the resort diver WELL (and I'm talking WELL) over that depth! Their boats and gear were in good working order. Everyone at the dive shop learned our names by the end of the trip - and we learned theirs, too. I can't wait to go back!We were satisfied with our room - it was a bit small, but we weren't in it for that long. We did bring ant spray after reading this site, and did use it once. We also brought insulated drink mugs, after reading someone else's suggestion on this site. THAT WAS A REALLY GOOD IDEA! They had a fresh fruit smoothie bar, which we took advantage of. The bartenders were good, too.I found that a little tip money goes a long way there. Just a few dollars here and there made a big difference in the level of service that we received. I've read alot of complaints about lack of service, and I think this makes the difference! The grounds were immaculate, lush and tropical. There was an occasional drunk jerk here and there, but you run into that at all resorts. Free entertainment, I guess. Speaking of entertainment, the staff did as good of a job as they cound, but I wanted to see some cultural dancing, singing, etc. So, I was slightly disappointed there.A bit of advise upon checking in - ask to be as close to the beach as possible. Then, you're away from the sewage processing plant - adjacent to the restaurant! They put us close to the beach and dive center, so it was really convenient for us to lug our gear to the dock.If you have time to visit the spa, I had the best swedish massage! Her name is spelled ARA...something. It was the best! I pulled a back muscle lifting an air tank, and after she was done, the pain was gone!I hope this information is useful - as this site has been extremely helpful to me!

The best thing about this place is the moment you leave it.We booked through Worry Free Vacations, who touted the hotel as magnificent, pearl of the Carribean, the usual BS...when we got there our room wasn't ready, so we went to the beach bar for lunch...lunch, that's a massive complement for food that wouldn't satisfy a ravenous hog. Anyway, I strongarmed the manager into transferring us out to the Iberostar, which was excellent. We checked out of the Allegro about an hour after we arrived. THIS PLACE IS A ********. ITS A DISASTER. DO NOT STAY HERE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Went to this resort July 7, 2003 expecting to be pampered & cared for in this "4 star hotel". I guess my standards are a wee bit higher that the person who rated the Allegro but this place is a "pit"!! There were several in my group of friends & we experinced many unfortunate things! My room was by the "lagoon" (aka sewage system) & the smell was so bad! My daughter was taking a shower & yelled that the water was in the bathroom floor. The sewage system had backed up in our bathroom & there was about 2 inches of yuck standing on the floor! The toliet stopped working too. I went to the front desk & asked to be moved but of course there was nothing available until the next day. I told him we would sleep in our friends room & I would be back the next day for my new room. We did get a new room the next morning but the air conditioner didn't work. Some resort employee came & giggled some knobs & said it was fixed but of course it wasn't. We couldn't sleep with the windows open because the mosquitoes were so bad. Heck, I didn't even mind the gecko that was on our room ceiling one night! We tried to get into the 2 restaurents we were allowed to go to only once during our stay. Each day we were told they were booked up! It was about the 3rd day one of the other guests said you had to give the reservation guy at least $10.00 to get a reservation. Of course, just about everyone was on "the take"! The food was ok alot like a cafeteria of the same choices every night, but what really grossed all of us out was the lack of cleanliness. Glasses were only dipped into some vat of water-substance & reused for the next sucker, I mean guest. We went snorkling one day & saw how they "sanitized" the mouthpieces, the mouthpieces were tossed into a 55 gallon drum of that water-substance. YECK! I got used to telling the time-share sellers to "leave me alone" everytime I walked to the main lobby & the buffet. They were like a swarm of buzzards waiting for their next meal to keel over. People would just tell them to "get away"! Forget being nice, we paid to have sales people in our faces!! I could go on & on. It seemed like we were there forever. Those 5 days were definately the worse "vacation" days I have ever experienced!

stayed there 6-16-- 6-20-03. found out we had paid too much through Gullivers travel. Food horrible, made reservations to eat and was told out of food. Try to relax outside in your private hammock and SMELL the Sewer gases. ANTS, ROACHES, and Rats are a daily event. AIR-conditioner? What air-conditioner. Beer drinking contests by the pool for your children entertainment. Phones dont work at all. Cannot walk to desk in the morning without being harrased by the tour promoters.

My 14 yr old daughter and I took this trip to bond and have a week of sun and fun.. Allegro resort had everything to fullfill this task.. The rooms were not all that but we figured that we were not going to be spending a lot of time in them anyway.. the grounds were kept up beautifuly. the 2 pools were always blue and clean and the hotel always had activities going on in the one large pool with water volley ball or water exercises. There is a swim up bar but you rarely see it getting used because the bartenders always are helping people at the other side where they walk up and serve drinks.. The hotel has many activities that you can choose to participate in thru out the day.. The hotel does put on a show at nite and it is very entertaining and is put on by the staff of the hotel. There is a sports bar in the hotel but it is not for any one under the age of 30 unless you enjoy playing pool and watching sports on tv.. I am 33 and I stayed long enough to see what they had and left. My daughter said that they only had old people there and well I was considered old to her.. The hotel gives free scubu diving lessons in the pool and then take you out to the shallow water and let you experience what you have learned. They also teach you how to snorkle. Now lets get to the not so hot things about the hotel.. The hotel has a snack bar by the pool because the nachos and hot dogs are better that the buffet. The hotel does not have enough fish to see when you go snorkling, after the first 5 feet out there is nothing to see and I mean nothing. If you want to go snorkling, go walking down the beach about 100 feet and snorkle out from there, you will see the most beautiful fish ever.. The hotel dive shop offers a snorkleing trip for $40 per person for a 35 min trip to 3 area reefs, walk down a little from the hotel and save your money.. The brochure says that you can take a rent a scooter and go anywhere you would like... Well what they dont tell you is that if you have never rode a scooter they will not rent them out to you because the largest amount of accidents that they have are taxis hitting the people ridding on scooters.. The taxi ride into downtown cozumel is 15 one way for 2 people and 1 dollar additional per person.. Be smart and take one day and go to town and do all your shopping and then go to Senior Frog that eve. I believe that was the most fun I have ever saw my daughter have.. It is a very fun place to dance and play games, even the moms and dads will enjoy it..
Well all in all I think that you really don't have to leave the hotel at all in order to get the most out of your vacation and you must reserve all your dinners at the italian resturant at the hotel because it is better than the dinner buffet. Remember, guys bring at least one pair of pants and ladies can wear shorts. This resturant has a semi dress code.. A must do is Para sailing, the cost is $50 per person but as my daughter put it "Very well worth it" The hotel offers very relaxing lounge chairs and well if all else fails you can lay out in the sun or shade a have a drink and relax.. All I have to say is Vacation is what you make of it and I think that this is one vacation that my daughter will remember for a very long time and so will I...
