After a morning at the beach, and working up some serious hunger in the children, we asked a taxi driver to take us somewhere in town that has good, authentic mexican fare.
She dropped us at La Choza and we were not disappointed. As we exited the taxi, several people were exiting the restaurant and were sharing with us just how good it was for them.
We were quickly greeted and seated. The chips (excellent crisp, color, saltiness and freshness) were paired with a unique and tasty salsa.
We tried a variety of plates including the fish ceviche, chicken in mole poblano, garlic shrimp, shrimp fajitas and skirt steak plate, as well as a couple of quesadillas. The service was attentive . The food was fresh, tasty and the appropriate temperature.
We were quite pleased with the flavors and the fact that the kitchen remained true to those Mexican flavors, not bogging down the meal with americanized components or accoutrements.
We would highly recommend and if ever we are back in Cozumel, it will be a sure stop for us.
FYI- it is not far from the Norwegian Cruise line terminal. We walked from the restaurant back to the ship, with small children, and it took no more than 10 to 15 minutes. Plus, along the way, there are many shops and souvenirs stands to do your shopping. Good food products, with great prices are available at the Mega mart, not far from that terminal.
