We took this trip to celebrate milestone birthdays: My daughter's 25th birthday, my mom's and mother-in-law's 70th birthdays, and my 50th birthday. Our rooms were spacious and beautiful and the hotel lobby and pool area was fabulous. The hotel was at 40% capacity, so we always had a lounge chair available at the pool and never had to make reservations for dinner. All the staff were helpful and gracious. We loved being able to order room service whenever we wanted as well as smoothies and cool drinks when we were in the sun. The food was great, especially with the all-inclusive. We can't wait to go back.

To start this off, I booked with our local travel agent using the Apple Vacations information material. The Grand Oasis Caribbean was rated a 4 plus star resort, so we thought, what the heck, for the price, we couldn't go wrong. So we book through Apple. For the four of us, air and hotel came to less then $700 a piece for two rooms, all inclusive.
After booking the trip, I started reading some reviews of this almost new (opened in January) resort. Not one review even came close to saying this was a 4 plus star resort. So my expectations weren't real high going into this.
On the day of our arrival we were able to get right into our rooms, even though it was well before noon. When we got to the room, we noticed there was no electric. Not a big deal, we just changed into our swim gear, and headed out to the pools. The next day, the same thing, no electric in the afternoon for a couple of hours. On the third day, we were without water for probably 4 or more hours. I went to the front desk to see what was going on. It wasn't anything the hotel had any control over. A major bridge construction was going on, and those things were affected. So we couldn't fault the hotel for that. I guess they could have done a better job of letting us know that these things were going to happen, so we could have planned a little better, esp. the water thing!
We found the food in the buffet to be really good. Such a nice selection of meats and other dishes. I especially liked the breakfast buffet. Lots of juices and choices to make. You could order american coffee or the mexican expresso. Both were very good, but I like strong coffee. The waiters were okay, but since there not making their living on your tips, they don't go out of there way to make sure your happy. The one outside fish restaurant we found the service really bad, but the food was good.
The sports bar in the Hotel had two small flat screen tv's that didn't do the place justice. They could have easily put in much bigger flat screens and maybe added some HD to them. The World Series was going on, and there was a Monday Night Football game on, and there were a number of people wanting to watch, but if you didn't have a good seat, forget it.
The staff was very friendly and they place was kept very clean. Always someone cleaning. The elevators were small. I mean, really small. Like 5 normal sized people small. And no air conditioning or fans in them. And to make matters worse, only one elevator was working most of the time. The gift shop didn't have much going for it. Didn't excite you or make you want to go in.
The ocean was nice, but no waves where we were located. Lots of seaweed, but still its the ocean, and the temps were hot. We spent most of our time by the pools anyway. No waiters coming by asking if you needed anything. if you wanted something, you went and got it.
All in all, for our first trip to Cancun, it went very well. Found some good Cuban cigars. And drank and ate like champs. Just not sure I'd ever go back. The Oasis Caribbean may say Grand, but all that means in large, and that it is.

The food was terrible, the entire resort has a smell to it, there was NO power or water EVERYDAY for the minimum of 4 hours. Nothing on site to do at the resort. Terrible, worst vacation EVER.

We just arrived back from a four day trip to the Oasis Caribbean Resort. For some background we are a couple in our early thirties and this was our fourth trip to Mexico, however this was our first trip to Cancun. We normally stay at one of the Iberostars in Playa Del Carmen.
Check In: We arrived at 11:30am and we were told a room was not ready, which was OK but the resort was pretty empty so I find this hard to believe.

Rooms: We booked a Lagoon Supersaver room with a king size bed. We received a room on the 9th floor with a balcony which faced the lagoon. We loved our room and had no complaints. Not all lagoon rooms had balconies, only 5 per floor. Our room was clean and we had plenty of towels. The water in the room was nasty; it was yellow and had a foul odor. This was a first for us, we used bottled water to brush our teeth. We did not have a coffee maker in our room.

Beach: We really enjoyed the beach! Yes it is calm and shallow water, but it is very relaxing. The pool/beach areas are very close to each other which was nice. The beach chairs on the Grand side are much nicer.

Pool: (at the Palm side) Nice pool, clean and a good size. There were plenty of chairs for our stay, but I do not think there would be enough chairs in high season. This pool has a swim up bar which only had one bartender and only carried the basic liquor and even when you ordered a doubled you still received a very weak watered down drink. There is only one small restroom by the pool and beach and the lights were never turned on and the stalls were almost child sized. This restroom was a trek from the beach.

Pool (Caribbean side): We did not go in this pool, no body did. It is clean but has no music or swim up bar. The chairs are much nicer however.

Service: We got the impression that the workers were simply there to do their job and nothing else; no one went out of their way. We would ask bartenders for ideas for drinks and sometimes they would just hand you a beer. We are tippers and this made no difference. We often would wait at a bar for a drink while the bartender would carry on conversations with co-workers. We had a waiter talk to us about drugs and was showing us his pipe from his pocket!! This behavior was shocking to me and unexpected, as we do not do drugs or are not interested in drugs. This is one area which needs a lot of work. The lack of personality really hurt the total atmosphere of the resort.

Food: We are not picky eaters by any stretch of the imagination, and the food was awful!!!! We ate the buffet in the Palm first (there are two but only one was open for our stay). The buffet was fairly small with poor selection. We later went to the snack bar on the beach/pool and this was good, they serve hot dogs, nachos, cheeseburgers and French fries. I think their hours are 10:30-8:00. That night we ate the Thai (Asian) restaurant which was OK, the menu choices are very limited. They have a Mexican and Seafood restaurant also but we did not eat there. We checked out the buffet for dinner one night and we walked out. We ate breakfast every morning at the buffet on the Grand Caribbean side and it was pretty good and they have a great selection of fresh juices. We also ate at the Brazilian steakhouse, on the Grand side, it was OK but nothing exciting. Room service is twenty four hours but they also have a limited menu.

Overall thoughts: I will start with something I have not read in any other review, this is a NON SMOKING resort!!! You must smoke outside, not in the rooms, restaurants or any bars. Each and every day something went out either power or water. Our last day we did not have water in the rooms for over 4 hours. The gift shops are worthless and you really must go to town if you want a souvenir. The decor of the resort is very modern and not the traditionally Mayan decor. I have no desire to return to this hotel, I found it to be very boring and really lacking atmosphere. I will go back to Iberostar any day over an Oasis resort. I felt like I was in Florida instead of Cancun. I can barely utter the word resort to describe this HOTEL! For the price of this hotel our stay was OK, but this is not what all AI resorts are like. This was our first and last trip to an Oasis.

My husband and I stayed here to 2 weeks in october, We originally booked to stay at the Oasis viva but when we got there they told us we were being 'upgraded' to the Grand oasis Caribean resort due to air conditioning problems at the viva. We were very hesitant and did not want to relocate but decided to give it a chance. Boy were we ever happy we did! This resort is beautiful , not a 5 star or anything but very open , clean and beautiful, the rooms are very spacious and the bathroom are big , no flatt screen tv's in the room as per what we were told, but we were not in Canun to watch Tv anyways. this resort is attached to the palm beach so you can use all the restaurants and bars there as well. Food was ok :( The outdoor seafood was awesome, the buffet got very boring , which is expected in any all inclusive resort, the mexican was just ok., the Rodizzo was ok but service very slow. Drink were not water down at all, people need to undersatnd that national achohol is not the same percent we are used to here in canada or US, but with the black wrist band for the Grand we had all internatinal alcohol icluding Jack daniel, bacardi etc,,, there were only 2 bartenders that we absolutely loved ! charlie at the outdoor Rodizzio bar , he is a prize to have working at this resort , what a genltmen, always respectful and his customer service is number #1, he is beyond professional. felipe in the grand bar is amazing! he goes above and beyond and is always happy, he lifts up your spirit! He is always trying to go out of his way to accomedate you ! be sure to tip these 2 they are always working thier hardest and deserve it, they both respect thier jobs and take thier jobs very seriously! thanks felipe and charlie for a fabulous 2 weeks! . other than these 2 , the service was not that great ,, Javier a bartender that filled in on days off was just miserable , no hellos , never at the bar, cant make drinks, just an all around miserble worker that dont care fot his job.
Location is not too bad, it is just a bus ride from the hotel zone strip where plaza foum is (coco bongo etc) and close to downtown canun as well. walking distance to Captin hook which is great you have to go!!
room service was great as well, air conditioning was perfect ! and maid service was fabulous, No complaints about his resort , We will definately be returning in april for 2 weeks!! again thanks again Felipe and Charlie ! cant wait to see you 2 in april!!
