“Great Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

We needed a quick get away and THE Royal was recommended by our daughter and her fiance. It was perfect! I loved the all inclusive aspect. The food was terrific and with the selection of restaurants on the property, there was something different for everyday. I did find that eating their specialties even at breakfast was the best. When I opted for pancakes, it was a little disappointing. When in Mexico.............. The staff was so attentive and friendly. We wanted to relax, enjoy the beach and read until we couldn't focus, so we did. But, there were lots of things to do and enjoy if you were so inclined.
p.s., I'm old enough to remember that traveling to Mexico can mess with a gringo's tummy and mine is a little sensitive. No worries,at the resort, I ate and drank everything I normally would at home and had no problems. Hubby either. So if you're wondering or worried about that, fahgettaboudet.

“Royally Impressed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

After having visited the Royal in Playa del Carmen in March, 2012, we loved it so much that we wanted to try the Royal in Cancun. We just got back from our stay there from Nov. 25 through Dec. 2. This time my husband and I traveled with our daughter and son-in-law. What a vacation! The Royal does not disappoint.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed, we were treated like royalty. Pampering is their specialty. From the service, the decor, the food, the shows, the views... who could ask for more? Don't hesitate to book at this resort. Julio, (and all the waiters at Maria Marie's) bent over backward to see that we had everything that we desired at this fabulous restaurant. The staff at Pelicano's, the Tapas restaurant, Asiana's and Spice are superb. The performers in the shows are talented and the shows are very enjoyable. Every employee at the Royal makes you feel welcome and special. We highly recommend this fine establishment. We will return in the future. Until the next time... thank you, Royal Cancun, for an outstanding stay.

Room Tip: All rooms have a gorgeous ocean view.

“First-Class Honeymoon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

We were married at the sister hotel, The Gran Caribe, our first week in Mexico, then once all our guest left, opted for a week alone at the adults-only next door. On arriving, they offered us an upgrade for an amazing deal, so we ended up staying in the Presidential Suite. It was incredible, truly luxurious. The room had a kitchen, fridge, dining room, living room, bedroom, and a rainfall shower and steam bath in the bathroom. There was even a Wii for those rainy days we spent inside.

The Royal is by far our favourite hotel. Food at Spice was so good, we ate their for buffet breakfast and lunch almost every day. Our favourite was Asiana, watching the chefs cook right in front of us, and putting on a great show juggling utensils and lighting things on fire. The food at The Chef's Plate was truly delicious, but being shy, we weren't comfortable eating at a table with 11 other people we didn't know for 2 hours.

Wi-fi was spotty, and didn't work the last day of our trip, even though check-out was at noon.

The shows were great, especially The Elements show, which was a Cirque du Soleil type thing, right in the lobby. It was breathtaking.

The view of the sunrise from the balcony was unreal, spectauclar to watch. We would have like a bit more privacy on the balconies, since you can see everyone else when they are on their balconies, but it was still beautiful.

We loved the pool, and the spa was amazing. We would have liked a few more hot tubs, but the pool had 2 warm spots, so it wasn't so bad. Our room came with a reserved cabana on the beach. It was located in the back, with a palm tree obstructing our view of the beach, and it was very far away from the washrooms. For the Presidential suite, we would have thought the cabanas could have been better situated. We ended up using the public ones more often, even though our reserved one had a much more comfortable bed.

Our only complaint about the room was that the air conditioner was making very loud banging noises, every 20 mins or so, which kept me up all the first night. We mentioned this to someone in guest services, who said they would take care of it right away, but nothing was done. We again complained 2 days later, and were assured it would be fixed, but still nothing. Finally, we turned the AC off in the bedrom, so it was a little too warm, but at least I wasn't woken up every 20 mins, startled.

We had also eaten at the italian restaurant next door our last night at The Gran. We ordered wine, and paid cash, but they didn't have any change. They told us to go to the front desk the next day to get our money. No one at the front desk had any idea what this was about, the restaurant was closed until 5pm, and we were checking out, so never got our change. We then asked a lady at The Royal if she could help us. She took the piece of paper that the restaurant had given us, and said she would take care of it, to come find her the next day. We never saw her again, so we never ended up getting our change. It wasn't much, less than $10 USD, but still...

We splurged, because it was our honeymoon. If we had the money, we would definitely go back to The Royal. However, since money will probably be tight next time, we will probably stay at The Gran Caribe in a Gran Master Suite, which will allow us to use the facilities at The Royal.

Room Tip: - Corner suite was beautiful - Presidential Suite was exquisite

“Exceptional!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012 via mobile

I have just returned from 10 days at the Royal Cancun.I have stayed at a number of 5 star hotels around the world but nothing compares with the Royal! I cannot fault anything!
I can't wait to return!
The weather wasn't great and we had endured a 29 hr delay but it was soon forgotten. The food is amazing and I would recommend booking at the cooks fable in the Asiana- just breathtaking!
