“worth every penny”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

Honest review from Liverpool couple, stayed at the royal 16/10/2012 till 31/10/2012 Let me just start by saying it was amazing from start to finish. Check in was quick and delightful, no one pushing add on's, Our room was big and clean and the view was beautiful and the sound of the ocean just added to the room. All the staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you A few little shout outs too Frank the pool / beach and lobby bar waiter Rulo from the coffee house was brilliant him and my husband were rapping all the time it was so funny Jesus in spice was so attentive always remembering our names and its the little things like that that make this hotel the best. The food in this resort is amazing. The staff get to know you and you don't even have too ask for drinks they just keep them coming all day. The weather was fantastic in the late 80's and 90's from day 2 we were so relaxed and didn't want to leave the beach it was beautiful the brochure pictures don't do it justice!!!!!! The entertainment of a evening was great and worth a look at. We did do two trips to xel ha and xplore they were both enjoyable and loved every minute of them. We came home from the royal and went straight to thomas cook for a price for next year it is amazing and worth every penny. We are a couple in our 40's and we felt like a pair of teenagers that's how good and relaxing it is, So if your thinking of booking it just do it you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same

“Great Food, Amazing Staff & Gorgeous Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

My husband and I traveled to The Royal based on a referral from our travel agent for our annual anniversary trip. We wanted a non stop flight to somewhere different as we always do Riviera Maya when we go to Mexico and this was a wonderful alternative that satisfied the travel bug perfectly.

Given that's its located on hotel row in Cancun, it wasn't as serene as the Riviera Maya, but it allowed us to do some exploring on our own without having to pay for an excursion or rental car.

The food was spectacular! The fresh guacamole at Pelicanos is to die for! The room service was awesome and they made me a pizza twice despite the fact that it wasn't on the menu anywhere. Ask and you shall receive!

The staff was friendly and helpful and the drinks were flavorful and poured well. If you want a certain type of alcohol, just ask for it. If you don't, you'll get well liquor.

I'd recommend the Royal to anyone looking for a unique alternative to the same old same old in Mexico. Beautiful building and grounds, clean and gorgeous pool, clean beach and a staff that is second to none. :)

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean. I don't believe there is a "bad" room in the hotel.

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We stayed at the Royal from 11-03 thru 11-11 and it was by far the best Cancun hotel we stayed in. We were celeberating our 40th anniversary and a friends 60th birthday. The staff couldn't be any better from Nicole at the Romancs check-in to the the waiters, bartenders, servers and cleaning personal they were all wonderful. When they suprised us with the rose pettal heart on our bed for our anniversary that put them over the top.

“BEST Vacation EVER”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We stayed at the Royal from 11-9 - 11-15...We have friends who have stayed there and new more or less what to expect.. We were greated like everyone else, then taken to the Romance Concierge as we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Nicole was awesome, We were upgraded to a Oceanfront room, 738. I don't know were to start other than to say we had the time of our life, we met the most awesome people.

The Hotel, Beach, Staff, and Food were awesome. For those of you expecting uphoria, you may find it, others would complain in heaven. We found most staff to be very kind and friendly. Daniel, at Pelicanos, Victor at Marie Maria, Baak, Hugo & Gaudalupe was so sweet. There are many more.

Beach towel game? Some people may not realize that there are lots of chairs and cabanas with towels on them, but if the towels are rolled up, that means they are available.. There were always plenty of options. We are beach people but often moved from beach to pool later in the afternoon, and had no issues finding places to sit. The Beach is so beautiful, it can be rcoky where the waves break but if you venture in 20 or 30 yards the sand is so soft, and the water is 80, and so blue.

Drinks and food; If you have a drink and you don't like it, ask for a new one or have them fix it to how you like it.. Upon arrival we did not like the beer or vodka in our room, asked for absolute and coors lite on a note in the fridge with a dollar and the next day it was there Same with the food, try something new, if you do not like it then order something else. If you chose you can eat like a king, just remenber in Mexico their idea of sushi, or any other food dish may not be the same as you are used to. Does not make it bad, just differant. I ate raw seafood everyday with no issues, and it was some of the best from anywhere.

Entertainment was availabe and the Tuesday Beach party was great. I could go one for days about this resort, but it was the resort and the staff along with the people we met that made this a vacation of a lifetime. I have to send out a big hello to Vicky and Michael, Fran and Susan, Keiko and Mithci, Karen and John, Derrick and Ebony, Mike and Deb, and Mike and Nina. Thank you all for making it a super vacation, we miss you all. As others have noted tipping is appreciated, and may bring you better service, but if i did not receive a hello or good service I did not tip. We left $3 to $5 for meals and $1 for bar service.

Can you do better than this hotel maybe, you sure can do alot worse. The combination of this resort and their people along with the new friends we made, made this the best vacation so far. We will go back and back and back :-)

Room Tip: Some rooms are better than others, but at the end of the day any room at the Royal is better than 90...

“Royal Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

Honest review from a Scottish couple in their late 20s.

On arrival we where greeted with a lovely glass of champagne whilst checking in. Very smooth process & we where not pestered to upgrade as previous reviews have mentioned nor at any point of our stay approached regarding their time shares.

Our room was as expected. Clean spacious with a spectacular view as all rooms have (521). As soon as we arrived to our room we where brought a bottle of champagne & a happy honeymoon cake - very sweet! I used the hot tub once but it seemed to leave a brown scum line mark every time it was filled & other people mentioned this too which then put us off. Other than that the room was great especially the jet shower!! Turn down service was a lovely treat every night & the room was made up & re-stocked everyday. The mini bar optics where not for us we did ask to change them for absolut vodka but it comes at a charge. We used room service once about 1am took about half hour and was standard burger & chips.

We ate at Spice every morning & how I miss it. Something for everyone & it all tastes amazing! Spice was also great for lunch & snacks. Maria Marie was also lovely try the steak mmm! Tapas was a bit disappointing as its not what it is at home were you pick various dishes etc this was biggest let down. Asiana- done show cooking twice - phenominal & a must see! Lastly Pelicanos was great anytime of day great presentation & effort is put into each dish.

The pool game is true people do get up at 5am and put down towels but we preferred the beach & had no issue getting a bed there. The red flags where up a few times but you can still go in other parts of the sea & we spent hours enjoying the crazy waves!!! (There is a slight under current so please be careful) lifeguard on duty all day.

Entertainment is the best I've seen at any hotel - dancing, gymnastics, acrobatics etc.

The bar has every premium brand under the sun my husband couldn't believe they had a Scottish whiskey Drambue which he loves & I was delighted to see Dissarono!

The only down side to the hotel is that it doesn't have a 24hr serving beach bar or poolside bar the place shuts down completely around 12.30m.

Finally my husband used the gym every day and was happy with it & I got a blow dry from the spa which wasn't really worth the £ as they didn't understand curly blowdry but that's minor!

All in all a fantastic honeymoon & a hard hotel to beat!
