Actually the mistake we made was to stay in Cancun!
It is a horrible, pointless, trashy, americanised long strip of beach full of in-your-face hotels, restaurants and shopping malls!!! Like a cheap crap version of Las Vegas! And absolutely crawling with American tourists!
Anyway, we only stayed there 1 night before heading back home and it was MORE than enough!

The ME hotel is nice, it has a lovely reception and ground floor area, huge restaurant and bar and it's all pretty trendy.
Our room was facing the lagoon (which is fine as we paid a cheap rate for only 1 night), very modern and comfy. I'm not sure I would pay full price for the rooms though as very few have balconies which is a shame with the amazing view you have on the beach facing rooms!
Breakfast was good and staff were very pleasant.
Only bad point is that the rooms are not sound proof and you hear EVERYTHING that happens in the corridors at night.
All in all, a nice place to stay if you manage to find a good deal (under £100).

We stayed two nights in this hotel in October and found it to be an excellent. It is not the Hotel Bougainvillea with it's excellent gardens, spacious rooms, original art, restaurant and service, but the rates are less than half what you would pay there. The breakfast is very good with bread, yogurt, fresh fruit, cheese, coffee, more..). They even had it available 45 minutes early so that I could eat before an early morning flight. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are very nice. It is very clean at a very fair price.

Hip hotel, great service staff and vibe. But the fundamentals need to improve. The poolside cuisine was not great, just okay at best. In its attempt to be hip and trendy NY, they might forget its a caribbean destination. More local music,better food.Overall, we loved the staff very professional and helpful.

This hotel is very cool and has a great atmosphere but the one big thing that we didnt like is that the staff is watching your every move. They sit behind their desks and watch all of the guest on the camera monitors. They have security walking around everywhere and you get absolutely no privacy. Its so awkward walking in the lobby because you feel their eyes following you...It was so annoying. We loved the hotel and the vibe but the staff needs to relax. We will not be going back to this hotel....way too stuffy... The owners of this Hotel would be disappointed if they knew how the staff made the guest feel so unconfortable.

I must say that I was rather surprised with your comments about the front services and security issues.

i want to share with you that we have specific areas with security video, neverless we do not have it at the front desk or at concierge services desk. The only person who can manage this is our Security Manager.

Please be advised that the Rooms Division Manager was properly informed about the particular situations you experienced. Be assured that corrective and preventive measures have been determined with the departments involved, in order to avoid similar situations in the future.

what a bummer the 2nd time around

Towson, MD...we stayed at the ME from 9/26 to 10/03, have to say they dropped the ball. My husband and I stayed here back in February, that's why we returned. We have visited Cancun more than 13 times, we know where to go for food, fun etc....just not sure anymore where to stay....we thought we found our home away from home so to speak....

For a hotel with only 12 to 26% occupancy, there were too many things to complain about.

We got there on Saturday, and were immediatley greeted by Roberto, he remembered us from out last stay, Thank you Roberto for that warm welcome!! We checked in, went to our room immediately to unpack and head for the pool....where we were graciously met by Javiar....our favorite!! He had drinks to us in a matter of minutes....the pool was heated, that was great, last trip it was freezing....

Thank goodness for the staff, Javiar, Valerie(another fav), Hector, Rafael, Paco, Maricio, Viri....that was the ONE huge positive....thank you guys!!!

Our room on the 7th floor, for some reason a loud bang would go off every 15 min at around 1 am ... called the front desk, they sent maintainance, now every 30 minutes....ice machine broken, called, fixed....2 days no newspaper(we are MAS card holders), called, finally resolved. Had to move to another room. 9th floor, ice machine not working, called 3 times, never fixed, had to walk down to 7th floor, because 8th floors weren't working. Main elevators were not working for 2 FULL days, had to use the service elevators....thank goodness the hotel was not crowded there was only one!! Asked for a wakeup call on our last evening, NEVER received...thank goodness for cell phones....

I mentioned that the pool is now heated...that was fantastic, however, being a pool owner we felt it was dirty....didn't see anyone vacuuming it ever!!

Well, we do hope that this will help to resolve some issues and bring them back to the great standards that we received back in february.....
