“Excellent choice but some annoying niggles which could be easily fixed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

In summary a good choice.

Yes there are issues with too few sunbeds but they are available if you hunt around for them.
Me Cancun - this can easily be fixed by staff implementing a policy of removing towels if beds are unoccupied for a few hours (I believe some people reserve beds first thing in the morning and never use them?)

We used The Level package which offered good value once we asked the concierge for the full benefits. Yes there is a special menu in restaurants for The Level guests.
Sabrina one of The Level concierges was extremely good and a true credit to the hotel.

The bars do not have a cocktail menu which is a little bizarre (except for the Rose bar on a weekend but had to plead to have access to it).

Tipping and signing for everything - The issue of signing for items did not cause me any problems and I have experienced this in other all inclusive hotels. The receipts state wording like 'all tips are included'.

Music - The music in the Rose bar programmed when the DJ is not playing as dire, even the staff were complaining!

Food - good selection and good quality meats were used.

Room Tip: Sunset view/lagoon rooms are probably quieter than others.

This was my first experience with an all inclusive. We went to ME Cancun for a friends Birthday. I travel quite a bit and have been to some great places, our group could afford a good place, we thought this was one, DEFINITELY NOT. I read the reviews a few days before the trip, I wish I read them before we all booked, I think the thought of Cancun made all of us believe anywhere you went would be great.

For starters, if you want anything to happen at this place plan on spending more money than what you would expect for an all inclusive, this place is not all inclusive. Your room will not be ready, only (3) out of the (6) rooms were ready in our group, we saw at least five or six other people at the front desk upset about the same thing, over the weekend we met a few more people that had the same issue. The service here is terrible, its like pulling teeth to get the people here to service you, FYI...........learn to tip, or you wont get service. The breakfast spread is good but again the service is terrible, we could not get water or ketchup)(20 minutes) or our bill so we just got up and took it ourselves and then walked out on signing the bill, not sure why we have to always sign either. Even if you plan on a good meal at one of the restaurants they will find a way to screw it up, the food isn't that good, and again the service is just really bad. I would really suggest finding another place, if you think you are getting a deal here, spend the extra money somewhere else, it would add up to what you would end up spending here and you'll have a way better time.

Our solution to all of this was to throw money at the problem, we got Cabanas both days($1200 both days with tip) and one evening we got bottle service ($584), when you spend money it all works out but it was still a scam, you really shouldn't have to do that when you come to an all inclusive.

CONCLUSION - FIND A BETTER PLACE TO GO THAT IS ORGANIZED AND SERVICE ORIENTED, THIS PLACE DEFINITELY IS NOT, WE DID NOT MEET A SINGLE PERSON THAT THOUGHT THE SERVICE WAS GOOD. THE POOL AREA IS NICE IF YOU GET A CABANA AND AFTER A WHILE YOU ARE DRUNK SO IT IS FUN BUT GUARANTEED YOU CAN FIND A BETTER PLACE, DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BOOK THE ME CANCUN.

Room Tip: "Stay on a higher floor, its is worth it, lower floors are really noisy" "Its a coup...

Stayed at ME Cancun for 5 nights. Fancy looking hotel with marble everywhere you look. The lobby and interior public areas are quite dark with no views to the outside. The outdoor public areas are very nice, well cared for and easily accessible. All available lounge chairs around the pool are 'claimed' very early every morning leaving nowhere for late arrivals to sit. Same is true on the beach, but there are more lounge chairs available there, so it's not really a problem. They will bring out additional foam lounge chairs if necessary. 'Elvis' was a great beach attendant... really hustled to make everyone happy; 'Marco' was an exceptional beach waiter... always smiling and attentive.

Room was spacious, clean and comfortable (we stayed on the side that does not face the open ocean). AC was adequate.

Overall, food was very good but not exceptional. Breakfast buffet was ample and offered standard fare as well as local items to try. Only other choice for breakfast was the waterfront grill restaurant that had a very limited breakfast menu and was open limited hours.

Other restaurant food was creative and offered plenty of choices. Presentation was tempting and fancy, but the flavors of most dishes were unexceptional and did not live up to the presentation. Outdoor dinnere buffet offered plenty of choices but suffered from the blandness inherent in most buffets.

Service was either very good or miserable depending on the specific people involved! We had waiters who were brusque and couldn't be found and others who were attentive and friendly and genuinely interested in us having an enjoyable time. Even though tips were included in our 'all inclusive' package, we tipped additionally for all services.

So, my take on this place is that it was very nice and worth a visit, but probably never a return visit!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the ocean will also have to listen to the evening party music which can be quite loud.

The level guests make sure you read below and take advantage of the extra perks in your "Full Experience" package...

I must say that after reading so many reviews I was nervous as to what I would find at ME, I even thought about switching hotels. Am I glad I kept my reservation! My husband and I had an AMAZING stay at ME Cancun. From Feb 8-15. We booked a The Level Loft Suite (all inclusive) for 8 days, 7 nights. Our suite is one of the suites with ocean view and Bali bed on balcony. Such suites are located at the end of the hallways at both ends of the hotel, other suite with a balcony would be The Passion Suite. If you want a balcony, then you must get one of those suites, they are worth every penny!

As a "Full Experience" guest at The Level you get extra perks other guests don't.

CONCIERGE:
Exclusive/private check-in and check-out at The Level concierge located on the 10th floor. Early check-in and Late check-out option available upon request. Welcome champagne drinks upon arrival, fast and friendly check-in. Blue Level bracelets, coupon for spa or non-included items, room key card and towel cards are provided by concierge.

ROOMS:
As I just mentioned better rooms, balconies with Bali beds. Our suite had a jetted tub for two people in the bathroom with huge window facing the ocean and separate rain shower. (Passion suite has the tub in the bedroom area, no ocean view from tub). Comfy king size bed with upgraded linen and pillows. Mini bar fridge is replenished daily with 2 small water bottles, coca-cola, diet coke, sprite, beer: Dos XX, Tecate Light and Heineken, one 1 ltr water bottle, snacks: Sabritas (lays) potato chips, peanuts, m&m and snicker bar. One free reposado tequila bottle (upon request). Free 24hr room service. (Non-Level guest pay $5.00). Free laptop size safe. Aveda toiletries. iPod docking station. One free movie night, free PPV movie of your choice and room service will bring movie-night snacks to you room.

Ear plugs are provided, but we never used them. Our suite was on the upper floors and we never heard the music nor other guests on hallways or rooms adjacent to ours.

Our suite was always clean, toiletries and mini bar were replenished daily.
Nightly turn down service
Robes and slippers

There are items in the room that have an extra cost, but they are clearly marked with a yellow sticker. Prices are on the menu and are not much higher than they would cost at the local stores in Cancun.

AC: it will shut down if you leave the balcony door open. Make sure it's closed (look at the AC control to make it's completely closed) the sliding door has a sensor... lower the AC to your desired temp change the fan from Automatic to ON and set it to medium. It will run all the time making the temp nice and cool.
If the fan settings are on auto and HI it will only run in intervals, room might get warm in those settings.

FOOD and DRINKS:

Food is good and a la carte restaurants have plenty of delicious options yet level guest get even more:

Level guests have an extended menu at all restaurants. We highly recommend taking advantage of this!!!! Make sure you ask your waiter for it. The chef will prepare the meal of your choice, such options are not available for other guests.

Priority reservations at all restaurants.

Romantic Barefoot dinner at the beach. It's a 5 course meal, you choose one of two menus. We chose option 1- Sea food/filet mignon. (Oysters, smoked salmon and goat bruchettas, shrimp ceviche, filet mignon and desert: (chef prepared a beautiful designed plate with delicious cheese cake for my birthday) otherwise you get a sampler mini desert plate. Option 2: vegetarian menu. Only about 6 tables are set per night, plenty of space in between. Candle light lit and private as no one walks by that area, those tables are set away from the restaurants. Make sure you reserve ahead of time. Lovely and delicious dinner, excellent service from our waiter Florencio.

Worth mentioning:
Silk: make sure you eat at the Teppanyaki table. Sushi, fried rice and stir fry sea food, chicken or beef.
Beach house: 3 course lobster dinner and tequila tasting. (Extended Level/Full Experience menu)
Burgers, Top sirloin beef.
A must! (Not included, extra charge. $700 pesos). While enjoying your Bali bed at the beach or pool order the platter for two. Includes lobster, jumbo shrimp, scallops, oysters and king shrimp prawns "langostinos", carrots, celery and jicama fruit.

Top self liquor such as Grey Goose, Johnny Walker Black Label, Tequila Don Julio among others at all bars, restaurants and room service.

Invitation to wine and tequila tastings at wine cellar. Must make a reservation.

BEACH: prime location! One of the best in the area.

SIGNING CHECKS:
In fact you do have to sign for everything, drinks and meals. I did not found this annoying as many people say on their reviews. If you are planning to stay by an area for a while, leave your account open and close it/sign when you leave.
Don't freak out when you see the $amount you're signing for in each check. Even though it does say amount due or "monto a pagar" as long as it's included in your plan, you will not be charged for. You will know if anything you are ordering is included or not in advanced.
Servers and bartenders will take a look at the color of your bracelet (cyan blue -Level) and ask for your room number to make sure you are ordering things that are included in your plan.
They do this because only a few are Full Experience guests (Level), most have green bracelets non-level all inclusive and some without all inclusive. Also, there are some guests who purchase a day pass and pay for everything they consume.

YHI SPA:
Free 20 min massage or 60% discount if you get a 50 min full body massage instead of your complimentary 20 min massage.
Unlimited use of installations: steam room, sauna, experience shower, hidro massage pool and jetted hot tub.
Free yoga and Pilates class at 8 am.
24 hr access to gym.

BALI BEDS:
Waiter service: beverages and food
Level guest: Complimentary Bali bed (one day) by pool or beach. Min 3 night stay. Reservation is required.
*excellent service by our waiter Santiago at The Beach Club.
Otherwise there is a $40 fee all beds by the adult pool. At the Beach Club prices range fom $25 -$40. (Sun-Thursday). Friday and Saturday when DJ's are playing all Bali beds are bottle service only.

Free beds and chairs:
There are plenty of beds and chairs by the main pool am beach free of charge. You need be up early most are gone by 10-11. Free umbrellas by the beach, again those are taken early in the morning (Only about 30 available). Most people "reserve" the free beds and chairs by placing their towels and personal belongings. Most people are respectful and will not move your stuff around, but as always there are some exceptions.

PHOTO SESSION:
As a Level guest you get a free photo session by professional photographer. At the end of your session you get one free picture and the option of purchasing your photo book.

SERVICE:
Most waiters and bartenders were friendly and provided excellent service there were a few exceptions, only two bartenders by the beach house bar (main pool) had an attitude but still got you the drinks when you asked for them. Bartenders keep rotating so chances are you won't see those individuals every single day.
Vallet parking: always got us our car in no time. Never had to wait more than 3 min.
Concierge: helpful and made sure we had the things we needed. Always a smile on their faces and went above and beyond to help us.

We were never harrazed by the time-share ot travel agency people.

CAR RENTAL:
We always use America Car Rental / cancunrentacar.com
Reliable decent cars. Best rates I've found so far. We paid $237 for an automatic VWJettta (8 days) all insurances and zero deductible. (Unless you get or cause an accident while under the influence or cause an accident while speeding).
3-5 min from the airport. The will pick you up at the airport. They will be waiting for you when you exit the main doors...Take you to their office and have your vehicle ready. Upon your return, they will drive you back to the airport.

You are better off renting a vehicle from them than purchasing tours from the hundreds of places who are eager to take your $ charging you ridiculous amounts for transfers. Plus you have the freedom of traveling at your own pace.

Feel free to contact me if you have specific questions. I hope this review gives you some peace of mind if you have already booked your stay at ME and if you are still trying to make a decision look no further and choose a suite on The Level at Me Cancun!

Room Tip: Choose a Loft or Passion Suite on The Level!

Typically when my wife and I go on vacation, we wish we didn’t have to come home. Going somewhere warm in Mexico beats the cold weather of Minnesota hands down this time of year! Unfortunately this was not the case after our stay at ME Cancun. There were 6 of us traveling together and we all had the same sentiment by the time the trip had ended.
Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly staff member and I chose to upgrade our room to an ocean view. We were then all gathered into one area and given the rules of our “all inclusive” stay. I chose to bring my own bags to the room, and the other couples had to wait about 30 minutes for the doorman to arrive with their luggage. It seems rather odd that they would have to wait so long, based on the fact that there were virtually no other couples checking in.

The first afternoon and evening were a blast. Not sure if that’s because we had consumed too much alcohol, or if we were just that excited to be out of the cold. We ate at the “Mexican” restaurant, where the portions were small, but the service was good. We then ran over to a buffet to eat a little more. The buffet seems to happen periodically and without much consistency. While eating there they were serving raw sausage and burnt chicken right off the grill. This was our first encounter of poor standards.

Over the next few days we saw multiple instances of low food safety standards. Spend a minute watching the grill next to the pool and you will see the “cook” grab raw chicken with his tongs followed by grabbing your hamburger bun and cooked meat. They have no concern for cross contamination whatsoever.

Needless to say, my wife became violently ill with food poisoning. Thank god there was a Doctor from America that we made friends with on site. She had some meds that she brought with just in case, and luckily enough she gave it to my wife. Still my wife was in the room for about 36 hours with many unpleasantries coming out of both ends..(sorry to be graphic).. When we went to inform the front desk of the food poisoning the “manager” that we spoke with seemed ill-equipped to deal with such a circumstance. He stated that he will let the “Quality Manager” know and that he will have her come visit us by the pool at some point during the day. She never came.

Upon checkout we were asked “how was your stay”, by Javier. I explained all of the issues that we had, and his response was to hand us our baggage claim and to say thanks. I then told him that was not an acceptable response for what I just stated. He then said “sorry”. Again, no concern.. The proper response would be, “is there anything that we can do to make it right”. I likely would have not asked for anything, but knowing that they would have done something would have been enough.

Below my list of Best and Worst things about this place:

Best:
1. The pool area is nice.
2. The waiters at the pool are very responsive, as long as you are tipping them. We were!
3. The beach is nice..
4. The rooms were nice, although the shower is tough to figure out at first, and the phone didn’t work.

Worst

1. Food Quality was horrible.
2. You will get sick. 5 out of 6 of us had major stomach issues by the time we left. My wife suffered the worst of them.
3. Management is not equipped to properly deal with situations.
4. The Rose nightclub plays techo elevator music all nights but the weekend. The refused to change it, although the entire bar was complaining.
5. The adults only pool charges $40 for getting a bed. Most beds are taken by 7am. We learned that quickly and I woke up early every morning to lay out my towels for the day.
6. You have to sign for everything that you get. We have been to many other all-inclusive resorts where this is not a practice. It’s simply annoying.
7. They try too hard to be “vegas-ish”. I spend weeks every year in Vegas, and they rank lower than an off strip geriatric mobile home park, when it comes to style and execution.
Overall I would highly recommend that you avoid this resort. They posture themselves as being something that they simply are not.

Huge disappointment!
