We got a phenomenal deal for a sunset jr. Suite on the level ( right before the Xmas rush). As far as appearance is concerned, the resort and room receive a solid 5, but as we all know looks aren't everything.
The Level concierge team- Guillermo, Natalie, & Sabrina. Extremely resourceful and professional. Probably the best concierge team I have experienced abroad. Thank you guys very much!
Beach/pool servers Carlos and Claudia. These two were amazing. Proactive with the drinks and food. They made our beach days extremely enjoyable.
The beach: very nice beach, one of the best I've seen in the Caribbean.
The alcohol selection was impressive, specially for the level guests. We had access to grey goose, don Julio, and single malt scotch.
Spa: beautiful spa with an amazing steam room. Just with the jacuzzi was warmer.
The food was subpar at best, by this I mean dinner. All of the food was super bland. Silk: Panda Express trumps the Asian food at this restaurant. Even the miso soup was served below room temperature. The teppanyaki/hibachi part was disgusting, I never knew you could go wrong with steak and shrimp. Salt: extremely mediocre. Waterhouse: the chateau beriand was amazing, but only available for level guests and upon requests; the regular Brazilian menu consisted of bad cuts of meat that were dipped in oil before serving. The Beach House is open for dinner and probably the best overall, which isn't saying much. We had an amazing server named ToTo who made the experience pleasurable.
Adult pool concierge: seriously? These guys thought they were running Tao Beach in Vegas, except there were an average of 5 people there. The pool was only busy and good on Saturday bc a group of locals came. The management needs to make better use of these bonafide pool boys.
E Bar: this is suppose to be the lobby bar, but in reality is a side coffee bar that serves alcohol.
Gratuity is included? I dare you not to tip one of the servers for breakfast one day, the next day they will stay away from you like the flu. Ironically we paid everyday, but didn't feel that a buffet required more the 2$.
Everyone expects a tip, especially from non-Mexicans. I paid a lot of attention to this matter, most of the Non Americans (rightfully!!) didn't tip when they would just get a couple drinks or at the breakfast buffet. This is why I avoided Mexico for 7 years (after 4 trips), everyone seems to feel entitled to a tip for ANYTHING they do not just exceptional service. The only reason i came back wAs bc I thought this upscale resort would train their staff in a professional manner. I spent $240 on tips in the resort.
Overall: this resort is all about aesthetics, but lacks substance for the most part. They really need to work on the culinary aspect of their operations and discourage their staff from expecting tips for regular service. That being said, if you aren't a foodie and want a sexy resort with drink service on the beach then this resort might appease you... but not at the regular price.
