My wife and I had a fantastic time at the Great Parnassus.
We arrived at noon and were prepared to wait and chill out around the hotel until check-in, however were delighted to find that not only was our room ready immediately but had been upgraded for free to an ocean front suite. The suite was very nice, not the Hilton, but a nice, clean, hotel room. The hotel was WAY below capacity, we were told they were only using the first 6 floors of the 12 floors available and the 6 floors were not even close to full. This, I believe, added to the resort since we were known by all the bar-tenders and entertainment staff after being there for only a few hours. We did tip, as we had read prior to leaving that this was standard at this hotel, perhaps that is why they remembered us and took care of us but they generally seemed to enjoy what they were doing which makes your experience better.
The food was very good, we tried most of the restaurants at the resort and did not have a bad meal. We were also thrilled with room-service at 1am, how great is 24 hour room service included in your package...not sure I can ever not have that again now. The other thing that we enjoyed tremendously was that there was no buffet, all the restaurants were a la carte which was very nice.
The pools were very nice, the three-tiered infinity pool was gorgeous...only complaint was that it was a tad chilly. The swim-up bar pool was fantastic, the bar-tender, Cesar, there was the best in the resort in my opinion, he definately took care of us and the entire group of people with us. They do only serve dos equis beer, which was a drag, but I usually only drink tropical drinks in the Caribbean anyway so wasn't that big of a deal.
The beach, well it wasn't great that's for sure. Definately the absolute worst part of the resort. It was rocky, the ocean was rough, and it generally was a place we only went for a few minutes each day just to dip our toes in the water with a cold drink in our hand. We tried to walk down to the Hilton's beach, but it was far, their beach wasn't rocky but still rough ocean lots of erosion. I don't believe we saw anyone on any of the beaches for more than a few minutes.
This resort is not a 5-star and is a great moderately priced hotel in Cancun, if you know that going in and know what to expect you will have a fantastic trip. When we return to Cancun we believe we will be staying at this resort again.
