Used to the standards of UK and European resorts then the Great Parnassus is a diamond that is showing some need for update in some areas. The staff at the hotel are all friendly and excellent even dealing with groups of yanks who had been bumped from the sister hotel because they were too loud and obnoxious even for and Adult Only resort, perhaps they felt children would teach them better manners.
We paid the equivalent of £82 per person for a truly all-inclusive experience. So, in the UK that gets you a bed and maybe some breakfast. Top range spirits made into excellent cocktails, Dos Equis beer and food from the food court, Magnus, is enough to guarantee that you have all you need for a holiday. I lived on the Mexican selection of food and the fantastic sashimi. The other restaurants serve different food than the Magnus so comments that say they are the same are just not true.
Beds are on the hard side, but the mattress is quality and not the cheapest of hotel beds. The multi-head shower in our bathroom was dated but it worked very well as a shower and the heat control was great. Plenty of wardrobe space, working iron and ironing board. Housekeeping, well I note some disgruntlement from people. the hotel has a 3 day policy on towels and bed linen, to opt out of this speak to reception and the housekeeper is then instructed to change everything daily. I was happy with three days and used the beach towels as my daily change. Simples.
Beach is a great beach, with a very safety conscious life guard. Volley ball and football played daily. The beach service is great and for small tips our group had loungers positioned on the beach where we wanted them, could have moved them ourselves but hey ho.
I love the adult only area, it is quiet, it is roomy. People who do not like this area obviously need to go to Hedonism for real adult only action. Swing much New Yorkers!
Staff - Manuel, Emilio and Teo great day time bar men. very funny and on a mission to get you drunk by 6pm when they finish. Yolanda, our maid. Magnus staff, all very good but some excellent and deserve a daily tip. Alberto and the bell boys! Alberto is the true concierge and will look after you for restaurants, taxis, places of interest and even watch out for the early morning pick ups for Xperiences Xcaret and makes sure you get on the bus.
Great trip, weather was very unseasonal (apparently last time 20 years ago) but the place kept us happy. Second time at this hotel, it is the correct price to go to the neighbouring Iberostar then the trip would have cost £2400 more, if the Great Parnassus is slumming it then bring on the slums.
Better views from floor number - then above 30 - example 1135
