Last year in December 2008; My fiance and I went to Lomo Bonita because I wanted to go SO bad... we don't ride horses regularly so he wasn't too excited to go... 1: It was quite a ride on the bus from Cancun; we met in this strange place of a mall and had to ask random workers where to find it... Thankfully, we got our wristbands and made the bus on time, cuz they WILL board without you. 2: The ranch is strange, your in the middle of no where, they didn't tell you what kind of shoes/clothes to WEAR - finding it a surprise that we were going in the WATER with these horses... I cant wear regular clothes in the ocean! That was disappointing, now I'm going back home on a long bus ride in wet clothes.. 3: After getting assigned/placed on these horses, there was probably 30-40 ppl in our excursion... all ages, sizes...you can imagine how agitated these horses are getting just standing around and they DO fight with one another... ppl don't know HOW To control them... 4: We are warned the horse may "roll over because horses love to do that in the cool sand" ... needless to say my fiance's horse rolled over right in front of me and i went around him to avoid my horse doing the same! Monkey see, Monkey do! Those horses started dropping like flies! What if one rolled on top of someone?? 5: We travel in ONE long single file line, some ppl are walking becuz they dumped their horse, others are way behind eating the bushes, its a big mess and mexican cowboys are running up and down along side of the line -almost teasing the horses that are TRYING to walk and cooperate... ATV's buzzing around the horses tied up when 7-8 ppl at a time go in the water for a walk .. and the horses WILL kick behind them.
So as I said earlier, I went a year ago and my reflection review/ experience sounds ALOT like the ones continued throughout the year and it wasn't just on my tour..... i will not be booking another experience with this ranch... I suppose the best part came when we went to leave and the cowboys/ Nina stood at the gate collecting TIPS in a hat... So they knew WHO was tipping and who was NOT and any human would feel dumb walking past them out the door, smiling, with no tip (cuz we did that)....
I don't feel this ranch is safe, the horses look under fed and the ranch is VERY dirty... The horses are probably abused because all they really are is money makers to them... I would NOT recommend this ranch to ppl who have ridden horses only 2 or 3x their whole life... because you really don't want to break a leg/arm on your vacation.... Please be careful to those that book. I suggest ANY other tour would be safer and happier for all.
