We have vacationed in the cancun/playa del carmen area for many years, enjoying many different resorts such as secrets maroma, secrets capri, paradisus la perla, royal hideaway & le blanc. Nizuc is a new resort, having opened less than a year ago. One of the highlights of this property is it's close proximity to the airport but separation from the cancun hotel zone.
Upon check-in, we were upgraded to a suite with a plunge pool in one of the higher rise buildings. Interestingly enough, we declined the upgrade in order to stay in the main building which is much closer to the pools, beach and restaurants. The bed was perfectly situated to capture the view of the ocean. The terraces are all wonderfully spacious. There is one detail that has been neglected in the guest rooms. The lighting in the bathrooms is not designed to accommodate seeing one's self in the mirror.
Though Nizuc is not adults only, it is a very quiet resort. This was very appealing to us. Anyone seeking daily pool activities or nightlife, go elsewhere. The two pools in the main area are gorgeous. We chose to relax at the smaller adults only pool. It is absolutely tranquil. There is a third pool at the far end of the resort, tucked in between the Terra Nostra restaurant and the mangroves. Didn't seem appealing.
Based on reviews on this site, we were prepared for a bit of sticker shock with regard to food pricing. For anyone who has vacationed in the caribbean, expect the prices to be in the same ballpark. Yes, expensive, but no more so than dining at a la carte restaurants. We simply chose to not overeat or over drink! We very much enjoyed the breakfast buffet -special thanks to Jesisai, dinner at LaPunta -thank you William. Dinner at Indochine was good as well. The restaurants each have their own unique and appealing design.
Beware - bottled water is expensive to the extreme. Be sure to ask for "house water" at the restaurants. Your water will be poured from a pitcher, no charge!
The tennis courts on the property were not yet completed when we were there. They may be by now. Through the concierge, my husband connected with a terrific pro by the name of Mariano. They played off premises. Mariano was the best pro my husband has played with in the area. Hopefully, once the courts open, he'll be the go to person at Nizuc.
I had two wonderful massages at the spa with Enrique.
When looking at the price list for massages, be aware that, as an example, a 50 minute massage is stated as $160. After tax and service charge, the bill was about $220...
Nizuc is the perfect resort to visit if you are looking for a relaxing and pampered vacation. Over and above the beauty of the surroundings, the staff is impeccable. The resort really sets the standard for excellence!
