“Truly Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

We spent the week here over Valentine's Day and had an amazing time. The food was fantastic and plentiful. The buffet was superb and a huge variety.

The service was exceptional throughout the resort, but the wait staff in the buffet restaurant went above and beyond every day.

The bar staff was awesome!

Room Tip: Pay a little more for an ocean view room. It is worth it.

My wife and I spent a wonderful week at the Riu Palace Las Americas quite by accident as we had booked into another hotel, but we were bumped to the Riu... and we loved it!

The staff was soooo attentive, friendly and hard working. Even on the beach, the waiters asked to bring us drinks every 15 minutes or so! The housekeepers were cleaning constantly. The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed. The lobby, the restaurants, the bar, the theater, the pools and the outdoor areas were gorgeous.

The food: This is all inclusive. If you are a food snob, do yourself a favor and don't book an all inclusive hotel vacation - anywhere. That said, we loved the restaurants! Even the dinner buffet had plenty of delicious choices and there were two types of caviar! We made dinner reservations for and ate at the Fusion restaurant twice, it was our favorite. We enjoyed the outdoor Steakhouse too - please see the photo of my Baked Alaska desert aflame. The Mexican, Japanese and Italian were all good too. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet with lots of choices, made to order omelets and freshly made fruit juices.

The beach and pools: The beach is a little small and crowded, but the staff told us that they plan on somehow adding sand and augmenting the beach area. I am glad to hear that the Riu will do this. The beach is sunny in the morning but the beach becomes shaded in the afternoon as the sun passes behind the hotel. The ocean waves are tame at the Riu, so snorkeling is good here. There are two pools. The pool directly outside the lobby with the Greek statues and is pretty calm. There is plenty of activity at the pool with the swim up bar.

My mom and I went on a mother daughter trip to the Riu Palace and were pleasantly surprised. We had a great time. We had stayed at the moon palace before and were concerned about the difference in quality between the two ( moon palace has a strong rep). That being said, we didn't feel like we missed anything by going the more affordable route- and we were much closer to town. The room and pools were nice. All in all, I would go back!

Five moms took 9 seniors in high school to Cancun for their Spring Break trip. The rooms were updated, spacious and immaculate. The grounds were well tended and the wait staff was always attentive. There was plenty of safe and secure locations for the teens to hang out and much room for quiet privacy for the moms away from the teens. The pool area is well laid out to offer teenagers a place to hang out without being in the watchful eye of adults. This particular RIU offered privileges at other RIUs so the teens could visit the other hotels for night life while the moms felt they were safe.

This is a great hotel. The buffet was amazing. It was better than Occidental Xcaret and Iberostar Quetzal. Samurai which was the Japanese restaurant was the best. We started out with sushi to share as an appetizer. Then you c o u leave get a tuna salad with raspberry vinaigrette, noodle dish with scallops or soup. We had those three between the 3 of us and all were good. I had shrimp.tem p jar with veggies and noodles and that was too beautiful to eat but I did and it was a home run. Then we had dessert which was great also. You have to get a reservation when arrive. The bar staff were on top of their service. They do l like us dollars for tips but they're still great without them. All the staff Including housekeeping, waiters, and reception were exceptional. We stayed in room 426 ocean view jr suite and overlooked the main pool. Great room, stocked minibar with three bottles of liquor that hang behind it. I took an empty water bottle to breakfast and filled , it with orange juice for mixed drinks in the room. There was Jose Quervo, Smirnoff Vodka and a bottle of brandy. The beds are the only issue. Some of the pillows were old and felt lumpy and the bedspreads are worn. The mattress is too firm but your very tired so it didn't matter. There are few US channels to watch and the picture was just ok . I Looked at the back of the tv and the antenna in cable wasn't the right type of cable so it sort of just hung off the input. I checked 2 room so u t on both sides of the hotel and didn't smell what others are saying. It's humid there so you're bound.to smell a little musty smell nothing major. I've never seen a staff work so hard in my life so appreciate them and tIp if you can.

We first went to this hotel in 2010, I noticed a slight deterioration in the facility and rooms like chipped floors and torn bedspreads, but nothing to effect your enjoyment of this wonderful hotel. Just starting to show 4 years of wear and tear. We go there mainly for the food and location, and this can't be beat. Some people are critical of the building shadow over part of the by 2-3- o'clock, personally doesn't bother me. Noticed the were filling in a section of water with sand, which will greatly expand the sunny/sand area.

This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting. But Cancun is full of beautiful hotels. What made this one exceptional, what I found surprising, was the breadth of choice and the consistent high quality of the food. (Before this stay, I'd never eaten cactus. It's really quite good.) This is an all-inclusive hotel; I'd expected skimping in the form of pre-fab, processed foods with limited menu choices and limited serving. And although the specialty restaurants required reservations and seating times were limited, SOMEthing was always available. The staff were wonderful; most were fluent in English, but they were very patient with my Spanish. The room was spacious, though it did have a musty aroma, and the tap water is not potable. However, the lavish opulence of the place was a stark contrast to the living conditions of the Mayan- descendent villages we saw on the way to Chichen Itza, and it made me feel sad and uncomfortable. A negative thing: I didn't care for the DJ blare, poolside, for hours. Incongruous with the serenity of the setting.

Room Tip: Pillows are lumpy. Bring your own.
