The Salvia Condo building appears to be past its prime. The pool area in the rear and beach deck in the front remind me of going on an archeological expedition. You can see relics and evidence of what this place used to be. It used to have lighted palapas and perhaps a bar with a band stand in the pool area. But now the bar area only contains three abandoned beverage refrigeration cases and some broken down furniture. Where once there must have been an interesting fountain in front of the lobby now sits a dry little basin. On the beach deck there is an old hulk of a bbq grill in a corner. The pool tiles have been repaired as necessary ( but not re-done ). Some bricks in the entrance walkway and in the beach deck have lost the top ½ inch or so presumably due to weathering; but the mortar remains which could make it treacherous for someone wearing heels.

We rented a condo directly from an owner on the top floor. On first impression, it was cute with a cathedral ceiling and a spiral staircase to the upper half level. The view from the ocean-front balcony was spectacular. The A/C was very good once it had run for about 12 hours. The refrigerator worked well. The lighting in the unit was dim. There should have been more lamps and better bulbs. The daily housekeeping was generally good but we did find food bits in the sofa and somebody's hair that must have gotten caught in the spiral staircase prior to our visit. There were tiny ants running over the counters when we arrived. Oh.. there is no Sunday maid service. So when we arrived on Saturday and had no wash towels or dish towels, we were told by the front desk that there was nothing they could do about that or the ants until Monday. The front desk couldn't even offer me any bug spray.

The pool water was always clear and clean. The same cannot be said for the pool loungers. Apparently, the maintenance strategy is to simply allow rain to wash off bird poop little by little. Supposedly after 5 pm they are not allowed to hand out pool towels but the front desk guys did it anyway. The condo-supplied pool/beach towels while clean, have a 'lot of miles' on them. Some are stained, or have bleach spots on them.

One awesome highlight was the masseuse, Rosa. She gives excellent ½ hour and 1 hour massages as well as manicures and pedicures at reasonable prices.

The beds were uncomfortable - hard as boxsprings ( which I think they were ). This seems to be more common than not in Mexico for some reason. There was a sofa/trundle bed that was slightly softer to sleep on. The mattress in the sofa sleeper had no support left whatsoever.

This condo building also lacks basic amenities such as local phone calls ( yep, that's right, the phones connect to the hotel switchboard. ). They do not provide something as simple as paper towels for the kitchen. The soap provided is the most basic of soaps.

One might ask: why didn't we bring these matters to the manager's attention? Well, he was never there ( in by 10 out by 2 ) at the same times we were. Also, he is the only one that can give out the wireless network password for the lobby. The front desk folks, while nice and helpful as they could be, did not have a strong command of English so I felt that trying to explain the problems would be more difficult than it was worth -- conclusion: we went cheap and we got what we paid for.

As other reviews have stated, the Salvia is in the nightclub area of downtown so the boom-boom bass sounds will be heard through the walls at night. If you sleep with earplugs in the living room with the A/C on, it won't bother you. And then of course EVERYBODY wants a tip for something. And then there's the pan-handlers on the weekends and evenings who bring their small children to tug on the heartstrings while they try to sell you little bracelets for a $1.

I guess this condo would be ok for a bunch of partying kids to sleep in. They probably won't notice the mattresses, noise etc.

If budget, Motel6-like accommodations are ok for you on vacation then this place will be ok for you.

We got a great value on this place so we were not expecting anything out of the ordinary. Wow, were we surprised at how beautiful this place was! The view was just breathtaking. The rooms were clean, spacious and well maintained. The staff was as friendly as can be and really make you feel at home. Our party consisted of 2 adults 2 teenagers 17 and 15 and a 1 year old. Our room (the adults) faced the ocean and were awaken every morning to the most beautiful sunrise! Our girls (the teenagers) room face the "strip". Salvia is located right in the center of all of the nightclubs. This worked out great for our family because the girls enjoyed the loud music even into the wee hours of the night and we enjoyed the relaxing sounds of the ocean. I can't imagine trying to sleep with all of the "partying" going on just a few steps away. Had our girls been a little younger, I don't think it would have worked out as well as it did! We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Cancun.

Our infant... She loved it! There was more than enough space for her gear like the portable crib and jumper; and with dish network on the teli she was able to watch her favorite shows... Play with me sesame, Ni Hao Kailin and Yo Gabba Gabba!

It was a blast!

I went with a group of 3 other girls for spring break to Cancun and our package included this hotel. We had a standard room and it is basic, It had 2 queen beds, a small bathroom, a TV that got one channel, a closet with a safe, and a balcony. The room was very clean when we got there. Every day they changed our towels, but never really cleaned the whole room, we just kept our room clean. There is an actual key for the room, not a card. There is no fridge or microwave. The people there were very nice and you are able to leave your key at the front desk when you leave so you do not have to worry about losing it. The Beach right next to the hotel was very rocky so we had to walk about five minutes to find good beach, but it is not far at all. The location of the hotel is great, it is one of the closest hotels to the strip of clubs and restaurants. This was ideal for us because it was spring break and we wanted to be close as possible to these places. At times it was a little loud becuase we were so close to everything, but not too bad. Shopping is right across the street from the hotel and there is lots of it!

No real negatives except for 2 cockroaches, but they are normal there I guess.

Basically if you are looking for an affordable place to sleep in that is close to the action for spring break, this is the place to go!! We had an awesome trip!

Found Salvia through VRBO.com because we were looking for something extremely inexpensive but nice since my daughters and mother were going. Booked the unit through Travel by Design and Brian & Bob were very patient and helpful with all the questions I had. I've been to Cancun several times and stay in the resorts so it was quite a different atmosphere at Salvia. If you're on a budget and NOT hard to please, I would recommend Salvia.
Located right next door to Forum by the Sea and all the hot spots, it was great for us, but take ear plugs if you're a light sleeper because the lagoon side bedrooms allow you to hear the music all night long. Our unit was a 2 bedroom - 1 facing the lagoon with a nice sized balcony that you can also see some of the ocean from, and the other an ocean side with a larger, wrap-around balcony. The unit was not quite what I expected, but I was satisfied. It didn't have enough storage space considering it could sleep 8 and we only had 5 so 2 of us just kept clothes in the suitcases, but not that big of deal. It also didn't have central air but window units, one in each bedroom and that made the bathrooms VERY hot when everyone was showering and trying to get ready. It could also use some updates - the front door (which we had an actual key for, not a swipe card) looked like it could be kicked in very easily and the bedspread really frightened me, and the patio furniture could have been a little nicer, but the beautiful view made up for that.
As for the Salvia itself, the place could really use some updates. From the pictures, I knew the pool was going to be small, but it was nicer than I expected, but they have a "spa" right next to it that to me looked like an abandoned building. And the patio area overlooking the ocean also looks abandoned. If they would give this area some paint and some attention, it might have been nice to sit out there. And there's something that looks like it might have been a refreshment/snack bar at one time, and that would have been nice too. There are several large boulders on the beach but a very short walk in either direction and you have plenty of room to access the water. The bad about this is that this beach is mainly a public beach and I guess there's no one to regulate what you take out there and there's LOTS of broken glass when trying to walk to the water so you MUST wear shoes.
My only complaint really is the kids that stay there, apparently unsupervised. I've never been to Cancun in June, only in the fall and I learned about something called GRAD WEEK/gradcity.com that is apparently for kids that just graduated high school and some were staying at the Salvia and some at other places. The first group of kids were totally out of control (imagine a bunch of 18 yr olds drinking all day and night). They would leave their trash and beer bottles down at the pool, they used the planters in the hallway as a trashcan for food and their limes and screamed until all hours of the morning. On a night before we had to be up at 6am for a tour, they sounded like they were tearing the place up and screams were coming from all directions of our room. I had to go to the front desk and complain which did not put a stop to it. And these kids had the nerve to put a "do not disturb" sign on their door! I took it off and left it in our room. So if you're going with your family, I would recommend doing research and finding out if there's a graduation trip going on there before booking. That's really my only complaint about the Salvia. If I was going to Cancun with a large group and planned on doing a lot of activities/tours, I would stay here again.

Just got back from a four-day stay. Salvia was perfect for me. It's right by all the hot spots---Coco Bongo, Dady-O, Hard Rock, Senor Froggs, Carlos and Charlie's, and Bulldogs. I ended up spending my evenings at Slices right across the street. Small bar but great music and drinks and the staff was great.

As for the condo, what more can I ask for? The price was very nice, the room was big with a kitchen and the balcony was perfect. I stayed on the Ocean side and it was simply marvelous waking up, drinking coffee, and watching the sun rise.

I will definitely stay at the Salvia again.
