The Salvia Condo building appears to be past its prime. The pool area in the rear and beach deck in the front remind me of going on an archeological expedition. You can see relics and evidence of what this place used to be. It used to have lighted palapas and perhaps a bar with a band stand in the pool area. But now the bar area only contains three abandoned beverage refrigeration cases and some broken down furniture. Where once there must have been an interesting fountain in front of the lobby now sits a dry little basin. On the beach deck there is an old hulk of a bbq grill in a corner. The pool tiles have been repaired as necessary ( but not re-done ). Some bricks in the entrance walkway and in the beach deck have lost the top ½ inch or so presumably due to weathering; but the mortar remains which could make it treacherous for someone wearing heels.
We rented a condo directly from an owner on the top floor. On first impression, it was cute with a cathedral ceiling and a spiral staircase to the upper half level. The view from the ocean-front balcony was spectacular. The A/C was very good once it had run for about 12 hours. The refrigerator worked well. The lighting in the unit was dim. There should have been more lamps and better bulbs. The daily housekeeping was generally good but we did find food bits in the sofa and somebody's hair that must have gotten caught in the spiral staircase prior to our visit. There were tiny ants running over the counters when we arrived. Oh.. there is no Sunday maid service. So when we arrived on Saturday and had no wash towels or dish towels, we were told by the front desk that there was nothing they could do about that or the ants until Monday. The front desk couldn't even offer me any bug spray.
The pool water was always clear and clean. The same cannot be said for the pool loungers. Apparently, the maintenance strategy is to simply allow rain to wash off bird poop little by little. Supposedly after 5 pm they are not allowed to hand out pool towels but the front desk guys did it anyway. The condo-supplied pool/beach towels while clean, have a 'lot of miles' on them. Some are stained, or have bleach spots on them.
One awesome highlight was the masseuse, Rosa. She gives excellent ½ hour and 1 hour massages as well as manicures and pedicures at reasonable prices.
The beds were uncomfortable - hard as boxsprings ( which I think they were ). This seems to be more common than not in Mexico for some reason. There was a sofa/trundle bed that was slightly softer to sleep on. The mattress in the sofa sleeper had no support left whatsoever.
This condo building also lacks basic amenities such as local phone calls ( yep, that's right, the phones connect to the hotel switchboard. ). They do not provide something as simple as paper towels for the kitchen. The soap provided is the most basic of soaps.
One might ask: why didn't we bring these matters to the manager's attention? Well, he was never there ( in by 10 out by 2 ) at the same times we were. Also, he is the only one that can give out the wireless network password for the lobby. The front desk folks, while nice and helpful as they could be, did not have a strong command of English so I felt that trying to explain the problems would be more difficult than it was worth -- conclusion: we went cheap and we got what we paid for.
As other reviews have stated, the Salvia is in the nightclub area of downtown so the boom-boom bass sounds will be heard through the walls at night. If you sleep with earplugs in the living room with the A/C on, it won't bother you. And then of course EVERYBODY wants a tip for something. And then there's the pan-handlers on the weekends and evenings who bring their small children to tug on the heartstrings while they try to sell you little bracelets for a $1.
I guess this condo would be ok for a bunch of partying kids to sleep in. They probably won't notice the mattresses, noise etc.
If budget, Motel6-like accommodations are ok for you on vacation then this place will be ok for you.
