“Definitely going back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013 via mobile

This hotel in my opinion is the best ive been in, although the decor is a bit dated the cleanliness and services is excellent the food is really good i didnt get a dodgy tummy either, there is always something to do its so close to the strip and coco bongos its a 10min walk, i do recommend that you use the safe! Laura the manager was so nice and couldnt do enough for us everyone is so friendly, the beach is really clean just get down early if you want a sun lounger, there is a mini bar in your room with vodka, dark rum, brandy & tequila an in the fridge there are beers, water, pepsi and 7up this is refilled every 2days, you have an iron and a haidryer in the room, there are 3 al la carte restaurants, japanese, Brazilian and a steak house i loved the japanese, the steak house was really nice but i didnt like the Brazilian the food was way over cooked an didnt taste like what it was supposed to be so i could if been eating a gecko or somethin ha ha but besides that ill be definitely be coming back next year

stayed here with husband may 2013 ..brilliant hotel ,,beautiful beach ,,perfect positioning in cancun ...staff unbelievable ,very friendly .cant do enough for you .rooms large and comfortable.and spotless infact whole hotel is spotless ,,pool area plenty of room on sunbeds,, ,choice of rowdy pool and peaceful pool or even beach ,,sea glorious,,food great loads of choices ,,guarantee youll put weight on ,,,drinks great ,,international brands available ,,also 4 optic spirits in room plus a fridge full of beer ,lemonade,,pepsi,,and water,,refilled every two days ..free wifi in lobby area 90 mins a day ,,evening entertainment each night either by the hotel team which we found hilarious at times or other acts which were quite good actually ...local bars a stones throw away ,shopping arcade across the road ,,bustops outside hotel which runs every 5 mins and cheap .. snacks available 24 hrs ,, even got there own little nite club
trips werent cheap from the rep but were good ,we went on ,,pirate ship surf and turf which was great fun ,,,,,,chichen itza with thomson you go early so as to miss the crowds its well worth it to apreciate the temples as they show you some fasinating things with sounds ( i wont spoil by telling) which youd not be able to hear with all the other tourist arriving, also on the coach you were constantly offered pastries and drinks,,,,we also went on jungle trek which included ,snorkling in caves rapelling down into water cave ,,,then ziplining through the trees,, after travelling in a truck ,, which was bone shaking but funny .our guide was called isreal ,,he was hilarious ,,,,, also went Coco Bongos which is literally round the corner , we did the gold member which gave us free drinks from 9.30 till closing 4.00,our own private bar and seating area with waiter service ..also went on the swimming with whales sharks,,this was amazing once in a life time experience ,, all in all a billiant holiday

My Husband and I stayed here in April, this hotel was better than I ever expected. The staff can not do enough for you, everyone was friendly. The pools were perfect the beach was beautiful. The food was brilliant, there was so much choice. The rooms are comfortable and clean, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. I liked it so much I am going back next year.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view

We got a bargain for this holiday, we got £400 each knocked off in the Thomson sale and cannot believe what we got for our money.

Rooms nice, food great, staff polite and helpful and the arrange of drinks was fantastic.

The free mini bar was also a nice touch!

Really want to come back.

I stayed here for my honey moon in late Feb 2013 and enjoyed it very much! After reviewing many reviews i went with this option as the best deal for my money. I can't say enough about how great of a deal it was. You get what you pay for. Very clean rooms (Vegas style), clean pools, and great (premium) bar! J.walker black, absolute, don Julio. ***only down side is that the beach area is small. not much room so take this into account if you are traveling during busy season!

we left Nottingham east mids in early may - sadly not by the dreamliner as we'd hoped but there y'go... at least we were still going!!! Flight out was delayed but soon set off and the outward trip was smooth apart from some annoying seat kicking kids behind us who soon halted their odious practice when we scowled at em!!!

even tho we were not on the new thomson baby [787] they used the opportunity to show off their dreamliner menu on us - on way out it was fine, return wasn't more of that later!

the flight of some 10.5 hrs seemed to "fly by" [ouch!] and thanks to several good films on tap we were well settled by time we landed, having flown over liverpool, past Dublin and under the tip of Greenland to meet up with the USA at newfoundland, st johns, then followed the eastern seaboard southerly scooting west past new york before heading out over the gulf of mexico to the east of New orleans...

we landed on time despite a delay, and were soon settled in the caocgh travelling the 20 min hop to the hotel [we were 1st drop off] the heat was incredible... even at 4pm it was still in the high 30's and whilst we were there saw no raiin at all - just sunshine... masses of it!!

The hotel was spot on - couldn't fault it at all - even issues with ignortant door slammers in middle of night were soon resolved, they hoofed the miscreants out!!

Hotel has one main restaurant and 3 a la carte ones you book in advance...

the rooms were very spacious and being all inclusive and 5* included 4 optics in your room along with a fridge full of various canned beverages [incl beer]

The beach was v close and incredible...the sand had the quality i'd never seen before - that is is, what ever the temperature of the day [we had temps 38c - 42c while we were there] the sand always stayed cool to the touch - so no burned soles of your feet folks!!!

thomson crew at hotel were great - no probs there which is how it should be...we had a stroll down the street where within ten mins walk, you came to the likes of Coco bongos night club, hard rock cafe and Hooters...plus many more - we discovered there was a lot of hard selling in that area for entrance fees to these establishments - personally we didn't bother with them altho those that did so had a whale of a time...

what we did do was book a trip to Chichen Itza [we booked it in uk before we left] a very long but satisfying day out...first shock was to be up at 04;30....mexican time is six hrs behind that of Uk so it made the adjustment to mexican time even more compounding!!! but we coped...

ciach pick up was at 05;45, sadly hotel doesn't do a pack up brekky to take with you so had to contend with grim looking sarnies in the hotels 24hr sports bar, where all the two pint wonders were gathered...

The run across to "Itza" was entertaining and very informative by our guide and genial host "Augustine" and his mate faffy...they lkept us well informed, fed and watered [included in price] en route - the journey was relatively boring consisting of a long dual carriageway with little or no bends snaking out westwards from cancun towards Itza some 120mls away...

reason for the early start was to miss the heat of the day and also the crowds... sure enough when we arrived just before 9am, we were sole coach oin car park, and as such were able to take uncluttered [by people] pics for majority of the stay...

folks if you do just one thing during your stay in Mexico, you must visit Chicen Itza....a very rewarding and thought provoking day was the outcome, but the highlight for my partner was the next stop of the trip - a swim in a vast underground cenote [sinkhole - mexico has lots of them] this one was different by way it was underground and apart from a portal in the roof of the cavern allowing sunlight in, was covered...

the dip in this amazing location was surreal and refreshing...add to that the fellow swimmers included black catfish who were blind!!! oh and if you're spooked by deep water - then suggest you give this a miss, as the depth is some 150meters!!!!

final stop was lunch before a 20 min half in Valledodid a typical mexican type of town...we got back to the hotels by 4 ;30pm - all in all a day to rememeber certainly helped by the guides...

rest of our stay zoomed past quickly and it wasn't too long before we found ourselves sat in the reception area in aircooled spleandour awaiting the coach to take us back to airport....

Once at airport this is where you have to hand over the sum of 800 peso's in cash per person to a collector who you pass whilst waiting to check in...800 peso's is what mexico describes as a departure tax [it's equivalent to £45.00 in sterling! so a family of 4 will have to shovel up £180!!!]

Cancun airport is smart clean....and expensive for drinks... can of coke sets you back about three quid !!!

we left cancun on toime and with a swift tailwind pushing us along allowing ground speeds of some 635mph at times, the 9.5 hrs flight soon passed, any chance of sleep impossible...so i watched thre decent films, one after t'other... Hitchcock, Parker and Gangster squad. then they served the dreamliner menu for this reurn flight....

it was diabolical in content and quality!!!

opicture if you can a small tub of still water, with a similar sized tub with "salad" which comprised of [wait fer this!!]... two slices of cucumber a couple of seen better days lettuce leaves and a sprinkling of sweetcorn...[yeah!! a mighty fulfilling salad that!!] it was accompanied by a small tin container with the main hot dish - which revealed a bit of gloopy looking rice withwhat resembled a worn brake pad on top surround by a bit of carrot n broccoli...[turned out to be a chicken breast!] it was grim...band the sweet was a tub of a runny caramel or something - anyway the breakfast we received an hour or so before landing was even worse!!! it comprised of a little tub of orange juice, a sticky bun and a little tub what can only be described as baby vomit which in reality was labelled as "mango yoghurt" oh plus coffee... that was your yummy breakfast destined to sustain you....don't think so somehow eh???

sorry thomson the return dreamliner menu was no dream...more a nightmare!!!

apart from those issues we had a whale of a time and will deffo go back to this hotel - having enjoyed similar service & quality when we stayed at the riu touraeg in cape verde some 18months ago.

the beers we had whilst over there were the expected "corona, Sol and in hotel Dos equis XX" all usual continental lagers...

go! you will be amazed at Itza!!!

Room Tip: ask for a high floor room [we were on 14th out of 15 floors] the views are wonderful especially at s...

We booked a Junior Suite at RIU Cancun for our honeymoon in April. We used Lomas for our airport transportation and they were wonderful!! We were served drinks while we were checking in which was a very nice treat after a long day of flying. The hospitality at this hotel is amazing, the views are incredible and there is food and drinks to please anyone.

This hotel has a lot to offer but it also has it's issues. First of all, we were on our honeymoon and had called multiple times and asked the front desk clerk to make sure we had a King sized bed and not two small beds pushed together and of course we got two beds. We complained and were moved to an upgraded suite but we handed in our keys to the first room in the morning and did not get keys to the second room until later afternoon. The hotel is in need of updating and new mattresses. The beds were not the best and neither was the bedding. We did learn that if the patio door doesn't close properly, the air conditioning will not work but thankfully we asked and got that issue fixed. Leave the maids a couple of dollars and they will go above and beyond to take care of you.

The food and staff were great!!! There are several pools and we visited all of them. The first day we made the mistake of going to the pool with the swim up bar. Needless to say it was a little wild for us and no one ever gets out for a bathroom break so it's pretty nasty. The alcohol does flow freely and there doesn't seem to be a cut off when someone has had too much. The activities folks were tireless in keeping both kids and adults entertained. We ended up at the quiet pool that had lots of shade The pools do close very early so swimming after 7 p.m. is not an option which was really disappointing since going down to the beach after dark is not recommended. There are a lot of vendors walking the beach and security tried to keep them at bay but they didn't have much success.

We did discover a Solarium with a wonderful view and a hot tub. The hotel does not advertise this area but it is a beautiful spot for photos.

As far as the restaurants,, we loved the Japanese but were not fans of the Brazilian.

We loved being across the street from a shopping center that had a combination of mall type shops and market types also. There's a bus stop directly in front of the hotel and I would recommend the bus (Black buses) over the taxis.

We would go back here but we visited the RIU Place next door and will probably go there next year.

One more thing, if you think you want a beverage or coffee before you leave for the airport, make sure you get it before you turn in your keys because once the keys are out of your hands, you're no longer a guest at the hotel.

Room Tip: We were in the middle section of the hotel on the 6th floor with a large veranda and a front view of...
