My boyfriend and I just spent 5 days at the Sandos, and we really loved our experience there. Our main goal of this getaway was to get out of cold New York and enjoy some R&R in the sun, and Sandos definitely delivered!
When we arrived, check in was seamless. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and a rose, and they had everything ready for us. We were given a small sales pitch which we could have done without, but that wasn't a big deal.
The property itself is gorgeous - it's exceptionally clean and pretty. The pool areas were wonderful and so inviting! The beach was clean of debris and seaweed, and the water of the Caribbean set an amazing backdrop! The room was clean and well appointed, and the bed was SO comfortable.
What really makes this place amazing is the service. The staff could not do enough for you! At breakfast one morning, the waiter actually took my plate and carried it from the buffet area to our table. I am sad I don't remember everyone's names to give them credit, but they were all outstanding, and actually seemed happy to be serving you! You can tell they take service very seriously, and we really appreciated the effort.
The other standout mention was the food. The food here was outstanding. The breakfast buffet had almost anything you could ask for (and some things you wouldn't even think of for breakfast!). The food at the St. Trop pool bar was great - casual fare, but delish, and the food at the restaurants at dinner was incredible. The only restaurant we skipped was the Japanese restaurant, but I will honestly say we did not have one bad meal. And the presentation of everything is outstanding.
There were a lot more children there than we initially expected, but it might have been because of spring break. They were all well behaved, and we actually started a pool volleyball game with a bunch of kids that were there. (Another nod to the service - one of the pool guys saw a kid tossing a volleyball and immediately ran and set up a net at the pool!) There just isn't much for children to do there aside from the pool and beach.
I hate to use the word "negative" in regards to this hotel, because we truly loved every single second of being there, but there are a few things we thought were unfortunate. The first is that the pool area loses sun at about 2:00. The Secrets hotel next door is gigantic, and blocks the sun in the afternoon. Absolutely not the hotel's fault, and the beach gets good sun until a little after 4. It was just a little annoying. Secondly is that there isn't really a ton going on at the hotel at night. The entertainment staff does a great job during the day, where they have music at the pool, water aerobics, cooking classes, etc, but there really isn't much going on when the sun goes down. We went to Bar One for a drink, and it was so quiet! We were hoping there would be a little more evening activity, as we didn't really want to venture off the property. The outside bar/restaurant St. Trop would be perfect for evening music and drinks, and we were a little disappointed that the outside space wasn't utilized at night. And third, they don't serve Corona. I don't know why, nor did the waiters, but when you're in Mexico, you drink Coronas. That's just what you do!
All in all, the trip was incredible. If you're looking to relax and be waited on, this place is perfect. If you're looking for something with a little more action, you might want to consider something a little larger. Regardless, I would absolutely recommend this hotel and would definitely consider staying here again should we ever return to Cancun.
Thank you Sandos, for an much needed, incredibly relaxing, luxury experience!
