We have been to Cancun many times and own at the Royal Sands, but, this is our favorite resort because of the service, accomidations and the friendliness of the staff. The resort sits closer to the water than the larger resorts. The water is calm for snorkeling and nice swims. It has its own pier and you can catch several excursions right off the pier. It is also close enough to walk to the marina where a lot of the excursions leave. Our teenagers like the water at the Sands better because of body surfing.

We traded our Marriott Time Share to come to Cancun at the last minute. The Club de International was the only thing available so we took it. We arrived late on Saturday night and everything was closed, but the desk clerks were so friendly and helped us get a pizza delivered because we were starving! We got to our room and were thrilled. It was a two story condo. Two bedrooms upstairs and two bathrooms upstairs and a bathroom with a shower, kitchen, dining room and living room downstairs. All tile except the stairs which are carpeted. We were in room C-111 and we think it had to be the best room in the complex. Our balcony overlooked the ocean and we opened our downstairs sliding door and walked 10 yards to the beach. We were also right beside the restaurant. The pools have recently been re-done and they have a swim up bar on the one by the restaurant. The lounge chairs on the beach and pool were great. They have security guards on the beach to keep people from pestering you to buy things. The resort has a good market where you can get milk, juice and snacks. My daughter did a pottery painting class and we had a massage on the beach. All in all it was great. They also have a bus that takes you over to their other resorts that runs every couple of hours.
The beach at this resort is beautiful, but the water is very shallow and not so great for swimming.
The food at the restaurant was good enough for us. The people were very friendly and helpful. It is a time-share and they will approach you about buying, but once we told them we were already owners and weren't interested in buying, they left us alone. It is further up the beach and you can't walk to any of the restaurants on the strip, but we just took the buses and it was fine. We ate at Carlos and Charlies one night and had a blast there. Also, you will hear a lot about Market 28 which is downtown. I went there after going to Market Negro, which is on the hotel strip. I think Market Negro is much better and has better quality. Just my opinion. The fitness center was being re-modeled, so we weren't able to use it. Also, they said we MIGHT be able to get wireless if we were on our balcony, but we were able to get it in the rooms. They gave us a pass key and it worked beautifully every time.

This is for the down to earth traveler who wants to be pampered in cozy surroundings with access to a gorgeous beach for the day and a hop onto a city bus for a ride to the hotel strip and/or downtown markets and restaraunts at night. The service is wonderful, the people are very friendly, the resort facilities are fantastic, and the food is delicious at the Palapa restaraunt whether or not you want to enjoy it at a table or delivered with a tropical drink to your spot on the beach. An express restaraunt will deliver to your room- the pizza is delicious. The owners/guests were very friendly and welcoming. One week here melts your bones. You can also have access to the sister hotels down the strip- but many visitors from there seem to prefer to come to Club Internation's.

Club International is a great club for guests 3 months old to 90 years old.

The side of the hotel zone that VCI is at is protected from the huge waves you see at 80% of the other hotels in Cancun. This allows a relaxing time to snorkel around the dock, go sailing, or wade. If you want the big waves take the club bus over to The Royal Sands or Royal Islander, etc. Good food, great beach, plenty to do if you want. One of the best values in Cancun.

Started coming to VCI every March since I was ~5 years old. VCI is still hard to beat.

The Royal Resorts Club International (or Vacation club international – VCI) is a nice property located at the 4.5 km marker along Kukulcan avenue in Cancun. I did not know until after I have made reservations that it is a time share property. Since it is a time share the rate offered was for a week – Sat to Sat, which is great.

The hotel is 5-star with good facilities and amenities and excellent service. It is located along the horizontal leg of the number-7 shaped Cancun and a bit away from the commercialized malls, etc. The beach in this section is shallow, however, the there is a lot of sea grass in the crystal clear water that was a bit of a turn off. The hotel did a good job of clearing it and cleaning the beach front up early each morning but by afternoon, lot of sea grass is washed ashore making the beach a bit unattractive. Along the beach the hotel has several beach chairs, umbrellas and a volleyball court. The hotels rents at no charge, snorkel equipment, sail boats and of course, beach towels are always provided at no charge.

There are two swimming pools on the property. One is more for kids and learning swimmers and the other is for adults and better swimmers. As part of the recent face lift, the pools were converted into heated pools which are nice when it is a bit chilly. The pools were excellently maintained with abundant pool chairs and space around them.

There is sports desk with long hours where you can rent tennis rackets and balls, bicycles and helmets, snorkeling equipment and sail boats and of course, towels. Very convenient and prompt service at all times. The property has a small grocery store that had an excellent variety and collection of items – pretty much everything that you would need. From fresh fruits and vegetables to milk, juices and frozen pizza. Pastries and baked goods arrive fresh every morning.

The room or the villa has a living room, a dining area, a fully-equipped, modern kitchen and two bed rooms. It was very spacious – truly like home. Balconies are attached to the LR and to the master bedroom with chairs to sit out on. The LR had a TV with cable, DVD player, Boombox (CD, cassette and radio), and a pull out Murphy bed. The kitchen was equipped with new GE equipment and other items such as a coffee maker, blender, etc. Everything was provided – can opener, cutting board, salt and pepper shakers, placemats – everything! Maid service was also excellent.

There is a restaurant on the property and a deli for carry out called the Royal Express. One could order pizza with free delivery to the villa. We were limited in what we could get at the restaurant given that we are vegetarian. We ordered Mexican rice and Guacamole from the Royal Express, and they were good.

The resort has an activity center offering activities such as piñata making, Mexican lottery, language classes, pool games, beach games, etc. Most activities we re free and some had a nominal charge for materials.

There is a bus stop right outside the hotel. The R2 and R15 buses take you into Cancun city to the Walmart and very close to the Mercado 28 marketplace. All buses go into the various malls along the hotel zone area. This was very convenient.

The front desk assisted with converting dollars into pesos. Their exchange rate was very fair and in fact better than even the bank!! There is a Thomas More travel agency and a car rental company on the premises. We booked a day long trip on a bus to Chichen Itza thru this travel agency. It was good. However, the travel agency led us to believe that booking through them, the tour would stop only at a few of the Royal Resorts and not at several hotels – however this was not the case. While we were one of the last to be picked up in the morning, we were the last to be dropped in the evening after a total of 8 stops. The bus through the operator Cancun Lines was excellent and the tour guide did a great job. As with any organized bus tour we felt that they could give us some more time during lunch break when they also had some Mexican dances going on. The time was so short we could neither appreciate the lunch nor the dancers. But the overall trip was reasonable value-for-money. The other major bus operator is Grayline.

The Royal Resorts Vacation Club International is a fine resort and I would very highly recommend it to families with children. The villa is very spacious and can comfortably accommodate 6 people making it a great place for a family get together and getaway.

  • Liked — Excellent rooms and facilities, location
  • Disliked — Beach in this area is not the best (lot of sea grass washes ashore, but beach is shallow and good for kids)
