“Royal Cancun (VCI)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Wonderful place for families. Ocean is the calm side of Cancun and wonderful for young children. Villas are exceptionally clean. Maids do a terrific job. The whole complex is very clean.
Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Rest. is good. Childrens pool and Adult swim up bar pool.
Not a lot of activity going on this end of Cancun but it just takes a bus ride (approx. 80 cents per person) or cab ride to the beautiful malls and clubs. Usually great weather in March. This year lots of winds but still sunny.

Not much more to say than hasn't been said in other reviews. This place is well maintained, the staff are great, they care about your safety and security. The rooms are comfortable - our unit had a great murphy bed instead of a crummy sleeper couch. The restaurant is ok - very convenient when you don't want to go out. The pools are great. Great looking tennis courts, free use of bicycles, convenient to grocery stores in town if you don't want to eat out all the time. We do however recommend the Walmart Superama's. People might send you to the Chedraui chain, but that's pretty overwhelming. Who'd guess that Walmart would be the upscale choice! Some people have noted the history of this place. The room includes a sort of "yearbook" with the hotel's history, and we're pretty sure that we saw people there that have been coming there for decades. The only shortcoming we found is that while the beach is nice to sit and look at the water, its not water you can swim in due to sea grass issues. Also, if you want to take a long walk along the beach, you can't, because there is not continuity of access along the short. So, if you don't need the glitz and action of the strip, this is the place to go.

My family and I stayed at the Royal Cancun for five nights. We really liked the location of the property. It is near the western end of the hotel zone, so we had easy access to the center of Cancun for shopping (Chedraui) and restaurants. Yet it is a short drive or bus ride to the entertainment area of the hotel zone. The suite was spotless, spacious, and provided a great view of the beach and ocean. We made good use of the full kitchen, as we used it for breakfast and snacks. It was quiet except for some banging at the property next door due to high winds on one of the nights, but this was not enough to disturb our sleep. The staff was uniformly motivated to offer great service. In particular, our concierge, Lorenzo, gave us some excellent advice on local restaurants, and the front desk manager, Ismael, was very patient during check-out while he printed out our boarding passes. The staff at the fitness center helped us figure out how to use the weight machines. We ate at the on-site restaurant twice, and found the food quality to be high and the prices reasonable. The on-site market had a surprisingly good selection, and again the prices were acceptable. Our only complaint is a minor one. We would have liked an outdoor hot tub.

Room Tip: Get one with an ocean view.

This is a great alternative to the big hotels in Cancun. It's located at the top of the hotel zone in kilometre 4.5. It's condo style apartments along the beach. We loved having a separate living room/dining room and galley kitchen rather than a hotel room. We were able to eat in or go out for dinner. The kitchen is fully equip with everything you could need except a cheese grater. The balconies are large enough to spend time on in the mornings drinking your coffee. The grounds are pristine and the resort offers all the amenties found in a big hotel (except you pay for the services if you choose to use them): waiter service at the pool and beach, craft's area, tennis courts, swim up bar, restaurant, mini-grocery store, spa, excursions, water sports etc. Free stuff includes: daily towels for the pool, welcome party with one hour of free drinks, shower facilities if you leave after check out, beach volleyball, book exchange in the lobby, aqua fit in the pool etc. The staff are friendly and helpful and will assist you with everything, including ordering pizza to be delivered by outside chains. There are two pools, one with a shallow area for children and another with a swim up bar. There is a dock on the beach that you can use to see the fish in the water and snorkel from. The water is calmer down at this end of the strip. This was my 3rd trip to Cancun, my first to this resort but my friends had been previously and loved it so much we booked it for this year. I highly recommend it for friends and families.

The Royal Cancun is a welcome exception from the norm in Cancun. It was built before the corporate chains decided to cram hundreds, if not thousands, of rooms into monster towers! The units are low-rise and spread around pretty gardens and two pool areas. All of the units are like two bedroom apartments. They all have a full kitchen and a nice dining/living area. They must have been remodeled recently because they look spotless and as if they are brand new. The beach is nice and the water is calm here. It would be an excellent location for families.

Room Tip: All of the apartments are virtually the same. The difference is the view and the price.

Enjoyed alot. Quiet beach, small waves, if any, relaxed atmosphere. No spring breakers allowed. you can stay and have a good time, but nothing out of control. Beach and resort well maintained. Mexican people very friendly and helpful. There is a small grocery store on site. you can also go downtown to Mega store, Walmart or Costco. Had a great housekeeper, Teresa. Couldn't really rate the spa because we didn't use it, but the people that did enjoyed it. Buses are the way to travel around Cancun for the price, can't beat it. Shorter beach to walk than the other Royals, but boats coming and going from the canal is an enjoyable sight. always something going on in the ocean. Would definitely return. Now we move to the Royal Sands.

Room Tip: Beach front top floor

This was our third trip to Royal Cancun and still love this place. Attentive service, very clean, great food. We travel with another couple and found the rooms to be spacious and comfortable for two. This year we stayed beachfront and the 2nd bedroom was a little small compared to the poolside units. Our favorite employee is Sharon...our cocktail and beachside server. She is a delight and a real plus for Royal Cancun. Also like Patricia. The great thing about this smaller property is the attentiveness of the staff and the quiet , relaxing atmosphere...A great place to chill.....
