“Best in Cancun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013 via mobile

This is our 6th time in Cancun. We've stayed at Dreams (which was nice) and at the Royal in Playa del Carmen and then at the Royal Cancun for the last 4 years and we will definitely return. We enjoy the swim up master suites along with the pool activities as well as the entertainment at pool side. It's so nice to see so many of the same faces still working there. They always greet us with a smile and hugs - making us feel like family. Over the years we have learned about their families and what's new with them. Thanks to everyone who has made our holiday vacation memorable especially Baak at the lobby bar, Cinthya at registration, Tori at the pool, the girls at the lobby bar and at our pool and Olivia - who did such a great job at keeping our suite so clean. Also, our special host and hostess who knew where we liked to sit at Spices and the breakfast gals. Our breakfast was always perfect. In fact, there are so many who made our stay extra special. The restaurants were very good and the service top notch. New Year's Eve was excellent and the parties on the beach were so much fun with more good food. And a special thank you to Marcelo and Allen for their help with our special needs. You won't be disappointed when you stay at the Royal in Cancun.

The Royal Cancun - Club International is a wonderful resort that has the best employees to make your stay very pleasant. The smaller building units add to an intimacy and sense of community that is definitely missing from larger, concrete fortresses (resorts). The staff are impeccably dressed and strive to make your holiday as pleasant as possible. The suites are large with a king-size bed in the main bedroom and two doubles (or moved together to create another king size bed) in the second bedroom. The the kitchen is a little "dated" (new tile and counter top would be nice), they were replacing applicances with new ones when we were leaving. I'm looking forward to a smooth ceranne top stove next year. The grounds keepers are awesome. I dare anyone to find a blade of grass or branches of a bush out of place. The pride they take is very evident and some of the dogwood topiary by the pools is adorable. Our concierge, Lloyd came every day to speak to us and ask us if we needed anything, our maid Carmen Lopez cleaned our suite spotless every day and Eder at the Pool Bar made us the best Banana Monkeys. We did experience a little inconsistencies with the food at the Palapa (mostly temperature wise) and do think that compared with some of the external restaurants we visited, that the value for the cost could be improved. But the service at the Palapa - especially Giribaldi - always made us feel special. The location of the resort is wonderful because we are slightly removed from the congested "Hotel Zone" so it's excellent for walking; though we are only a bus ride or taxi away from all the activities. We look forward to returning next year and can't wait to see those smiling faces at the front door and reception greeting us when return.

Room Tip: There are B units and C units with the difference being that C units have stairs to the second floor...

Do not use your time share as a trade and you will be fine. Being forced to buy the all inclusive is a real downer if you like to experience variety when you travel. Rooms in the resort are very clean. Tip your room service, maids, etc, My friend got her room, flight and all inclusive for a grand during high season, I used time share, paid my flght and then had to pay $105 per day for the all inclusive for 7 days. You check in at 4 pm and are out by 11 am so you really do not get 7 days. The tax and tips are supposedly included, but try that and see what service you receive. The bracelet is $150 if you lose it and must be worn at all times so you are readily seen by the staff, not to mention it is cheap plastic and you feel the ghost of it for a week after it is cut from your wrist as you depart the property. Mine was bitten off and then tugged on as the man could not find scissors. That is NOT 5 star. The view is gorgeous, but there are other spots in the world that are as good or better. I have not been in the hotel part in a room so I cannot address that. The resort suites are beautiful.

Room Tip: In the Resort all rooms are great. They all have ocean views. Upper floors are my fave until you nee...

We stayed for 2 nights 2 weeks ago, and had a very pleasant time. We were never approached regarding a time share promotion while there. We spent the day in Isla Mujeres, and the ferry dock is just a short walk away from this place. Food was adequate, although Margaritas seemed watered or from a mix--which should be blasphemy in Mexico. Quiet and restful, and just what we needed. Moved on from there to Chichen Itza and it was very easy to drive through town to the Cuota. Recommended!

Room Tip: Most rooms seem to be pretty quiet--beach front rooms are nice.

We are timeshare members and traded our home resort for this week. The Royal Cancun was the first available. Property is one of the oldest in the area, but has recently been updated and is very nice. Villa was very clean and updated with all the comforts of home. Only problem, is that we were given their ""lagoon"" view. Beautiful view of the lagoon, however, this was on the main highway. We were up early every morning with traffic. I asked to be changed to a different room, but was told I had to call Interval. Of course, Interval was no help. This was a real disappointment to my family and me. Traveled with 4 twenty something children who found it irritating, definitely not tranquil as oringinally thought.

Staff was wonderful and friendly. Most guests are older and have been coming for years. Felt the staff catered to them, which is understandable.
Definitely away from the nightlife, so if you are looking for Fun, this is NOT the place to go. Far from Hotel Zone and spent mucho dinero on taxi's and buses. That however, was expected. Orignially had a car rented, but the insurance thing rose the price up considerably. Decided to use public transportation. Once we got the hang of the bus route, it was wonderful. I was glad we did not rent a car after all.

Restaurant had a wonderful breakfast buffet and reasonable. We had one dinner there and was okay, but it was what we were looking for that evening, just something light.

The beach was terrible. We took the shuttle bus to the Royal Sands for a wonderful blue water beach experience. Again, if you are looking for that at Royal Cancun, you will not find it here. Mostly for senior citizens. Just depends on what type of vacation you are looking for. I am certain in years to come we will be looking for a place like this, but we still want to enjoy being middle aged.

I would recommend Royal Cancun if you want a nice, quiet vacation and don't really care about sitting on the beach. The pools were very nice, but quiet.

Room Tip: Stay away from the lagoon view. This overlooks the main road with the lagoon on the other side of t...
